MERGED: Zack as a Strong safety?

As much as thse idiots want to laugh, Zach Thomas could be a strong safety. I think it would be ridiculous to move him there, qs it definately wouldn't optimize his ability as a football player, but, technically speaking, he "could" play strong safety and possibly be adequate (maybe not though). That said, it would be utterly ridiculous to move him there.

I don't know if Sammy Knight will remain a Dolphin, but I was wondering...Zack is
about 20 pounds heavier than Sammy...of course he could always lose a few pounds...but I would think he's as quick as Sammy...he knows how to tackle and cover...he has great knowledge of the game. Could Zack move to Strong Safety? Zack has taken alot of pounding thru the years...it could help to extend his career. Players have moved around from one position to another...during their career's, I'm just wondering if Zack could also.

I'm not gonna mock you the way other guys on this thread have, but this isnt a realistic idea by any means. You have a good point in that Zach is smart and a very solid tackler, but he would be awful at SS. Zach's biggest weakness (and he's one of my all-time fav Fin players, so I hate to knock the guy) is coverage on TEs and backs, which is what he'd have to deal with alot as a SS.

Also, he may have good quickness and instincts, but he still only has average speed for a MLB, and by comparison awful speed for a S. Maybe he can be moved there on the occasional running down with Pope in at MLB just to throw a different look at the offense (though the D would have to be set so that the offense couldnt audible into a pass and throw directly at Zach), but moving him full-time to SS wouldnt be a good idea at all...hes a great player at his position, no reason to move him even if he could handle the new spot.

Why not laugh, it was a VERY stupid idea. All this thread is good for is a good laugh, taking it seriously and belittling everyone else is also a way to try and prove your "manhood" and maturity over us and make yourself feel better than us when you are not. Get something out of life and learn to have a little fun.

The reason Zach is terrible in coverage is not just because of speed, it's because he cannot turn his hips fast enough.

Knight can do that, he just isn't very fast in the straight line.

I guess you have never seen Zach in pass coverage. He is one of the worst cover LBs i have seen in the league.

that's one of the biggest overstatements I've seen on this board.

Pass coverage is without question a weakness of his, but not "one of the worst in the league"

Im not going to sit here and laugh at you, like most of the other posters in this thread. Obviously they feel the need to prove there manhood over others. Laughing at you is one way to do it. But to get to the point. If anyone was going to move to safety to extend their career, it most likely would be Surtain, although it doesn't look like he'll be around long enough to do it.

I appreciate that...like I stated...in the past there's been plenty of examples of players moving from one position to another as they get older. I figure those that laugh at others...have been laughed at themselves.

There is no way the Zach COULD play SS. He would be down right terrible there. Your talking about a 31 year old pro bowl player that would have learn a hole new postion. Zach Thomas is FAR to slow to play SS. He would be getting burnt every play. horrible idea.
