Merged8X: Corey Simon/so do we go after?/Corey Simon UFA

The Fins could create the necessary cap space if they wanted to. Zach, JT, and Madison all have contracts that could easily be restructured. They could also create a fairly large pool of cap space witht he following cuts:

Booker ($2.445M) -- In my view, he's fallen behind Boston. He's a nice player, but nothing special. I'd be fine with going with Maurice Mann here at nearly $2.5 million in cap savings.

Turk ($.360M) -- Again, I don't see a huge dropoff to Jones.

DThompson ($.295M)

Zgonina ($.310M) -- I like him, but if we are adding Simon, he's not really necessary.

Romero ($.201M) -- See above.

J. James ($1.545M) -- He's our least versatile OL, as he can only play guard. In my opinion, he's been medicore at best. While it seems crazy to be thinning out on the OL, I think St. Clair could fill the role nearly as well. This is an either/or with St. Clair below.

St. Clair ($.945M)

Seau ($1.195M) -- I love the veteran leadership, etc. but at this stage, is he a better player than Spragan or Crowder. I think we need to get Crowder on the field and I think Spragan has played well. This would be a cut of last resort, but if absolutely necessary, I'd probably do it (or at least try to force him to restructure).

Cutting Booker, James, Romero, Zgonina, Thompson and Turk would create more than $5M in cap room. If you can restructure Zach, JT or Sam, you can avoid some of these cuts and still have enough room for Simon.

I do consider DT a need position, but if, for some reason, some talent shakes loose ont he offensive side of the ball, I'd rather spend the money there.

fact is......we need to find guys who are in their 1st thru 5th year and are better than most other guys. If we can get a team full of players who are in their 1st thru 5th season and are dominant, then we got ourselves a Super Bowl team in no time, and for 8 years...we dont gotta worry about signing/trading someone. I heard Fujita from the Chiefs was being cut, he's worth a look.

Are you nuts?? Seriously?

yeah, were going to ask Zach, JT, and Madison to restructure AGAIN right before a season. Plus we are then going to cut our #2/3 WR, plus one of our top 3 offensive lineman, plus our one of DT in our rotation, plus Seau.

Also, why did the starter of this thread feel they needed to rate it 4 stars?

Yikes, glad he is not the GM!!!

I say we go after Rohan Davey. Let him be the back up this year, and then let him compete for the job next year. I am a Georgia Bulldog, and I had the opportunity to see this guy with my own eyes. He's the real deal. Plus he has that attitude and character that Saban wants the team to have for their "identity."

Corey Simon is severley over rated. The Eagles realized that he was expendable because anyone they slot into that defense can succeed because the schemes are just so darn good. Not saying their players aren't talented, but Corey Simon is nowhere near a top DT in this league, and doesn't deserve anything close to the money he is asking for. Not to mention we dont even have any money to give him, nore do we have anywhere to put him considering our revolving d-line is already stacked with talent.

What in the hell does that have to do with Corey Simon as an UFA?????

Man, I love coming here to get news, but some posters here are beginning to worry me.

And add 3 million in dead money to next year cap.

James is the only one who adds any real dead money to next year's cap. If you cut St. Clair instead, you'd have a half million less this year, but $2.8M less dead money next year.

I say cut Feeley,Thompson,Howard, and James and we could pick up Simon. I understand the cap and its penalties are much more complicated than my scenario but it would be nice.

Well, good thing you're not making the decisions..your decisions are about as good as say...Spielstad's were...

Corey Simon released

I just read Corey Simon was cut or released or something. Any chance we can pick him up

Yeah this is about the 5th thread started on Simon. He wasn't released. The Eagles took the franchise tag off of him, making him an unrestricted free agent, which he would have been this past offseason had they not franchised him. No chance Miami signs him. He's too expensive (overpayed) and far far overrated. Not worth the money he wants. He's a middle of the road defensive tackle.
