Michael Sam: I'd be excited to be drafted by Dolphins

Since when do they have press conferences, for guys who are projected to be picked in the middle rounds? The circus with this guy has already begun, and whoever gets him will have an Opera Winfrey, Dr. Phil show on their hands.

First openly homosexual athlete to come out prior to a draft. Something like this will always be a nationwide story, it symbolizes progress, change, acceptance. Our planet has a tonnnn of evolving to do before humans get over homophobia or racism, but its a feel good story that gets you thinking a generation or two down the road, your grand kids or great grand kids will grow up in a different world. I don't doubt this guy will be ridiculed behind his back or have some issues coming out of the gate...and for that he's a brave guy. He will certainly be remembered for doing this.

Had he not come out of the closet, he wouldn't have a press conference. Hell, no one would know who he is.

What do you mean "tweaner"...:chuckle:
I believe Gonzo means he's a undersized lineman at the NFL level.

Body type is more like a linebackers but he'll be asked to just rush the passer wherever he ends up going.

Does it really have to be explained to you why they are having a press conference for him? Is that a rhetorical question? Assuming it is not, I will explain it to you. He would be the first openly gay player to play in either of the four major sports. If it was not any big deal, all gay players would of come out by now. That is why they are having a press conference for him.

Is this what its come too?

This is pathetic. The only reason for the thread is because he is gay. How many other potential 5th round draft picks do want to talk about?

And IF we are "honestly" talking the draft, there is a draft forum. Yeah right. LOL

Whats your deal dude?

How is this pathetic? It's clearly a big story. If you don't think it is, than Stop commenting on it, and being the type of person who makes it into a bigger story than it needs to be.

They asked him a question,
He answered.
It's dolphins related.
So now it's a thread here.

Get over it...

What do you have against Vikings fans? :chuckle:

I could care less about this guys lifestyle. If he can play football and help us win games, sign him up!!!!

Is what what it has come to?

The ONLY reason why we should or should not draft Sam is because he either is very good or sucks...

One question for the ignorant who unfortunately are unable to function in a diverse society, what if Zach Thomas came out tomorrow and said he was gay (and is divorcing JT's sister)?

That would be strange since JT married to Zach's sister. not Zach with JT's sister.. I get ur point, though.

... just, the Dolphins have had enough distractions. Let another city handle the media.

I'm not saying we need the guy because we have holes that we need filled but I've been thinking about this since it's been said by a lot of people here. I'm having a hard time understanding what major distraction is going to take place. For a week, maybe two, reporters will ask questions, not negative question, just questions. But after that, what is there to ask? ..."Michael, are you still gay?"??? I just don't see why there would be any long term drama for a team that signs him.

One team asked Tennessee OL Tiny Richardson, “How would you have handled Richie incognito if you had been Jonathan Martin?” Interesting.

Seems surprising with how touchy Miami locker room situatuon is that teams are asking prospects to put themselves in Martin's shoes.

Your kidding yourself if you think it will only last a few weeks.

This is comparable to the Manti Te'o drama. How quickly did that burn out? Its never brought up unless its a reminder of how quickly stories blow over.

And this is directed at the entire class, not necessarily your post Phantom: for those objecting to drafting Michael Sam because of "media distraction", i hope you made that same argument when people were making "sign Tim Tebow!" threads.

As I've been saying, outside of the ESPN crew, nobody else connected to the NFL have really treated the whole issue as a huge deal. Most still seem to feel that this would all have been avoided if Martin handled the situation better, but that is neither here nor there.

I did see Sam's one quote as a shot at Martin though.
