Mike Freeman: Philbin has to be fired

That's not what I said. Belichick gets praised everyday of every week for just being Belichick but has taken 0 hits from the national media for having a murderer on his team.

Belichik has accomplished far more than the Dolphins over the last decade so of course he gets praised. The murderer got his ass in a sling with his hometown friends. That's quite a bit different than two team mates having a bad relationship.

Belichick is untouchable in the eyes of the NFL plain and simple. I may be way off base here but if bounty gate had happened in New England I'm not sure the suspensions would have been as severe. Also if another coach was caught cheating like Belichick was, would they punishment have been worse?

This kind of whining makes our fan base look pathetic.

I really like Joe P. but I have to be honest and just dont see him panning out as an elite head coach in this league...he seems average at best and doesnt make adjustments to win the games and lets teams come back from 14point leads to tie/ or win the game. Things need to change

BINGO.

Look at how were getting outscored in the 3rd quarter and that will tell you the tale.

My biggest issue is with the leaders on the team....we don't have any......and real leader would not let this get out of control and Martin probably would have felt comfortable going to them with this issue.....When Incognito is one of the team leaders you know there is a lack of direction on this team and this I blame on Philbin.....

Seriously. Bill Belichick has the most wins of any active HC and has 3 Super Bowl rings. WHAT HAS JOE PHILBIN EVER DONE???

job performance shouldn't make anybody immune to misconduct issues

I give Philbin a "C" up to this point and he is an upgrade to what we have had over the last decade (Cameron,Sparano,Wanny,Satan) but could the Fins do better? Definitely Could they hire worse? Absolutely
Philbin struggles with challenge situations & clock management by mostly ignoring them @ critical points in a contest.
As far as blame for this mess...I take it much higher than the HC.

It's funny. from what I understand most players police themselves in the locker room. Hence leadership councils and team captains. They would take concerns to the coaches and management.

If Martin didn't let on to ANYONE he had a problem with Incognito, how was anyone to know or do anything?

Are people supposed to have telepathy to be able to read others minds?

I was depressed at work, my supervisor didn't even notice.

As for all the blame being laid, which may or may not be justified, Martin HAD to have come forward in some respect to let people know. Let ANYONE know. His agent, parents anyone.

It's hard to be guilty of neglect when you were even aware of what you should be tending to.

All I hear is the "layers". Well the layers mean, what exactly did the coaches and management know not know.

We don't know.

Let's wait for all the FACTS to come out.

This! Was Philbin expected to monitor their personal telephone conversations and text messages too? If JMart really didn't let anyone know what was going on, I don't know what anyone could have done to help him. This is why all the talking heads and ex-jocks coming out of the woodwork to attack the so-called lack of leadership in the locker room & demanding Philbin gets fired crap makes no sense IMO. If they knew and didn't help out, ok but from everything I've heard, he didn't confide in anyone. Even the media with all their sources have said as much. Has it even been reported or confirmed that Martin let Incog know that he wanted him to stop and that he was crossing a line or did he just play along like everything was OK until he snapped in the lunchroom incident? Martin released text messages from Incognito; I want to know how he responded to them at the time? Why haven't those responses been published? I heard Jeff Darlington on the finsiders yesterday and he said that Incognito was basically blindsided because, in his eyes, he thought they were friends. Don't mistake this as an endorsement for his behavior...I think it's deplorable but I also think the way Martin has handled the situation is questionable too.

Damn, you really want the worst for this team. Amazing how much you defend your point to the teeth as long as it hurts the Fins. In case you missed it everything that is still unfolding another Martin and Cog were outside the team.l

I've been a Dolphins fan my whole life and want nothing but the best for the team...you may not agree with what I believe is best for the team, but it is what I believe.

Sometimes it helps to look at the situation objectively instead of through aqua colored lenses....

Fire Belichick....he didn't know Hernandez was a mass murderer. He should know every action a player does at all times.

Smh- just fn dumb.

While it may turn out that there are tangible reasons to fire Philbin when the smoke clears, this isn't one of them. You couldn't have drawn a better analogy, and of course put a spotlilght on the preferred status the league affords Kraft and the Cheatriots. Whether Philbin could have prevented bullying, Belicheat had a heads-up about Hernandez long before he may well have become a multiple murderer and more proactive intervention might have preempted at least one murder.

Of course 2 wrongs don't make a right, but in terms of egregiousness, at least handle the fins the way NE was treated ferchrissake!

PS: how's my new sig look?

If this was Belicheats locker room this story would be squashed.....Martin wouldn't have went awol he would have retired or been traded......he is a leader of men and will not let any distraction affect his chances of winning a super bowl....

Belichick would have to kill someone himself to be in trouble in New England. And maybe not even then.

Not a huge Philbin fan, but he is really getting a raw deal here if he is fired just for this incident. From Martin himself, Martin never told Philbin what was going on.

This talk of sending players to "toughen up" other players has happened since the beginning of time. You honestly think Shula didn't take this same approach?

Ya, it shows Philbin doesn't have a pulse on the dynamics of his players, but that usually shows up in the wins and loss column. I have no issue firing the guy after a losing season, or if it's clear he lost the locker room. But I don't think it would be fair to fire him JUST for this incident.
