Mock Draft Game: Rounds 1-3

The new GM of the colts uses the pick on defence, we were looking for a guard but the BPAs are on the defensive side of the ball, not on Olinemen. Couple of OLBs are interesting, but we believe they will not be an upgrade on Keihao or June... our Dtackles suck baddly, our CBs are modest, we have a huge choice to make here.... brandon flowers the CB or Red Bryant the DTackle ... in the end, we go for beef on the Line and select Red Bryant, DT from Texas A&M

The Packers are happy to make LB Phillip Wheeler of Georgia Tech their second addition in this draft. The value on our chart again matches a need position for us with both Wheeler and Erin Henderson available at this point. We decided to go with Wheeler however because of his superior athletic talent and playmaking ability. There was also some good value at cornerback position with Porter, King and Flowers still available. We addressed the defensive backfield with Reggie Smith earlier though. We believe that we have greatly improved our athleticism and depth on the defensive side of the ball with the additions of Smith and Wheeler.

The Cowboys select DaJuan Morgan-Safety from North Caronlina State...We feel like he can come in and back up either Roy or Hamlin and when one of them leaves next year step into the starting role..Building for the future along with our other picks

The Pats are amazed to see this guy still on the board...

Brandon Flowers, CB VaTech

with last pick in the second round the New York Giants a cornerback from Indina Tracy Porter 5’11 186

Porter showed off his big play ability as a corner as a freshman, picking off three passes and finishing with 22 tackles. As a sophomore, he had 48 tackles to go with three more interceptions. As a junior, Porter had 59 tackles and four picks, earning 2nd team All Big 10 honors. He closed out his career with 83 tackles, 5.5 for loss, a sack and six interceptions.

Porter is a very good cover corner, with all the talent to translate that ability to the NFL. He is a very good athlete, and has the quickness to stay with receivers in and out of their breaks. He also has the speed to run down the field with receivers and not lose any ground. Porter has also shown an impressive nose for the football, picking off 16 passes during his career. He is also aggressive, and not afraid to help out in run support. Elite speed, with a frame to add an additional 10 to 15 pounds without a significant loss of speed or quickness. Reads the action quickly and has the athleticism to react in time to make be a playmaker. Uses his hands well to get an initial jam on the receiver when in press coverage. Has good hands, and greatly improved his tackling skills during his senior year. Special-teams standout as both a punt returner and gunner.

With the 1st pick in the 3rd round, we the Miami Dolphins select cb Terrel Thomas from USC. A big, physical corner standing at 6-1 197 pounds The dolphins need help in the secondary and this pick definitely fills a need. Here's a thread that Boomer posted which talks about his success rate in 2007....

Terrell Thomas - USC:
Thomas deflected seven passes four interception returns (11.0 avg). He had 57 passes targeted into his area, holding the opposition to seventeen catches for 149 yards (8.76 yards per catch) and one touchdown. Only 29.82% of those throws were caught and he allowed just 2.61 yards per pass attempt

With the 65th selesction the Rams take Roy Schuening, G Oregon State

1. Miami - Chris Long DE
I still think Parcells goes defense at the top as he loves having solid defenses, plus the draft has a solid number of good OT's.

2. St. Louis - Jake Long OL
They need a big man up front to help protect Bulger and block for Jackson.

3. Atlanta - Matt Ryan QB
Now that they signed Michael Turner to a big deal the franchise QB is next.

4. Oakland - Darren McFadden RB
I think Rhodes and Jordan will be out, and the 2 headed monster of Fargas and McFadden will be in. Davis loves his explosive players and they need some help for the development of Russell.

5. Kansas City - Sedrick Ellis DT
Since most o-lineman at this point will be a reach they need to sure up their run defense and with concerns of Dorsey's knee they take the safer pick.

6. New York - Vernon Gholston DE
With the transfer to the 3-4 completely underway they need LB's and so they take the versatile Gholston here, and ensure division rival NE doesn’t get their hands on him.

7. New England - Leodis McKelvin CB
I think they actually trade out of this spot for an extra pick or two, but if not they need to fill the void of the departures of Samuel and Gay.

8. Baltimore - Ryan Clady OT
With the retirement of Ogden almost definite (or maybe it is), they need some help up front to open some holes for Willis and protect whoever they decide to put behind center.

9. Cincinnati - Glenn Dorsey DT
With 2 trades for DT falling apart for the Bengals in the last week, they get their big man in April.

10. New Orleans - Phillip Merling DE
Now that they traded for Vilma, its time to sure up a pass rush and take a solid defense end.

11. Buffalo - Limas Sweed WR
They need a big #1 receiver up in Buffalo and Limas Sweed is the number one wideout in this year’s draft.

12. Denver - Keith Rivers LB
With Lynch agreeing to come back they need to focus on replacing Al Wilson at the LB position.

13. Carolina - Kenny Phillips S
Carolina needs another playmaker in the back end of their secondary because they had far too many big plays completed against them last season.

14. Chicago - Brian Brohm QB
Chicago gets their potential QB of the future, and since Grossman and Orton aren’t getting paid too much he can sit and learn for awhile this season.

15. Detroit - Mike Jenkins CB
Since they traded Dre Bly to the Bronco's last off-season they need someone to help their crummy secondary.

16. Arizona - Rashard Mendenhall RB
Arizona needs a compliment to the Edge so he can lessen the work load, and Mendenhall is the complete package.

17. Minnesota – Derrick Harvey DE
With the sudden health concerns of 2 main defensive linemen, the Vikings take a big time player maker at end from Florida.

18. Houston - Jonathan Stewart RB
They need a franchise type running back down in Houston, and with Mendenhall going just 3 picks earlier, Stewart is the best of what’s left.

19. Philadelphia - Jeff Otah OT
They would love to see Sweed fall all the way to them at this position to solidify a #1 receiver for McNabb, but since he wont they take the best O-Lineman available to help protect McNabb.

20. Tampa Bay - DeSean Jackson WR
With an ageing receiving core they need some speed and youth, plus a legitimate return specialist which Tampa has never had in their history.

21. Washington - Aqib Talib CB
The Redskins need to sure up there ageing cornerbacks, especially with the pass happy teams in their division.

22. Dallas - Malcolm Kelly WR
The Cowboys also have an ageing receiving core, and unless they go out and sign Javon Walker I see them taking a local guy with create potential.

23. Pittsburgh - Chris Williams OT
With the departure of Alan Faneca and possibly Max Starks, they need to keep their $102 million investment standing up right.

24. Tennessee - Calais Campbell DE
With the large amount of D-Lineman gone in free agency they get a young defensive end with a lot of upside.

25. Seattle - Kentwan Balmer DT
Seattle has a lot of key pieces in place for a championship run, but they need a monster of a man to clog up the middle of the trenches.

26. Jacksonville - Reggie Smith S
With the addition of Drayton Florence to their secondary they continue to get depth here with the 26th pick if they want to take down the kings of the AFC South (Indy).

27. San Diego- Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie S
They pair their breakout defensive player of last year with his cousin to continue to add depth to their secondary.

28. Dallas - Felix Jones RB
Jerry Jones loves his Arkansas boys and with the almost inevitable departure of Julius Jones in free agency, he replaces here with the 28th pick.

29. San Francisco - Mario Manningham WR
After spending some big money in free agency on defense on Justin Smith they need to continue to add weapons for Alex Smith to develop.

30. Green Bay - Branden Albert OG
With the sudden retirement of Brett Favre, they strongly consider at QB here but decide to help protect Aaron Rogers instead.

31. New York - Dan Conner LB
Pass rushers won them a ring in '07 but LB's were there weak spot in '07.
