Mock Draft Game: Rounds 1-3

With the 30th selection the Green Bay Packers are happy to welcome DB Reggie Smith from Oklahoma to the franchise. The Pack was in a position to add the best player available, but the one glaring area of weakness on the team is defensive backfield depth. Adding someone who could conceivably play any position there is a dream scenario. He was the highest rated player left on our board and fits our greatest area of need. His great athleticism and playmaking skills would match him perfectly with an emerging Atari Bigby at Safety, or he has the cover skills to play the nickle behind Harris and Woodson. We expect him to make an immediate impact in our secondary wherever he winds up.

Well this guy has had long enough to make his selection... on behalf of the draft committee, the New York Giants select...
Dan Connor, OLB, Penn State.

--With the Giants struggling to keep their defense in tact with both OLB's, Kawika Mitchell and Reggie Torbor, hitting the market and unrestricted free agents, as well as their starting FS, Gibril Wilson.. the Giants need dire help in the defensive category. Luckily their starting SS, James Butler, will likely be retained as a restricted free agent. With Reggie Smith off the board, that leaves drafting a safety position out of the question. The best player available for this position is Dan Connor out of Penn State. Connor will come in immediately and make an impact for the Super Bowl Champions. The Giants welcome Connor's intense play which helped him record over 400 tackles, 14 sacks, and 34 tackles for loss at Penn State.

Bring on the 2nd round, jwong is on the clock for the Miami Dolphins!

In the 1st round we took the best DE/OLB in the draft and in the 2nd we will take the best TE in the draft Fred Davis. We desperately need a TE especially if we are going to have a young QB. This past season he caught 62 balls for 881 yards (14.2 avg) and eight touchdowns. He is a very athletic receiver and an effective blocker whom i think will be a very good addition to our O.

The Rams adress their offensive line with this pick and take Sam Baker OT from USC.

The Raiders are back and after addressing a major area of need in the first round by selecting Sed Ellis to help bolster a run defense that was atrocious last year, we are now looking at the offensive side of the football. Could go line, but with Sam Baker just coming off the board, we decide to add a weapon to surround our young quarterback. Wide Receiver is certainly a need on this team, looking at deep speed as Al Davis has always preferred the long ball. There are three receivers we consider at this pick:

LSU's Early Doucet (perhaps the best at RAC left); Michigan's Mario Manningham (perhaps the most explosive); Houston's Donnie Avery (the fastest?).

Avery doesn't have the inside outside game that we are looking for. Doucet doesn't have the separation skills that we covet. Manningham has both as evidenced by his wonderful senior season at Michigan (72 catches for 1174 yards, a 16.3 average (well above Doucet's 12+), and 12 touchdowns).

Our selection in the second round is Michigan WR, Mario Manningham.

The Kansas City Chiefs need a QB to build around. Brodie Croyle is not the answer. With that being said, we select Andre Woodson. He has the prototypical size you want out of your QB and a very good arm. He has decent mobility for his size and has put up very impressive numbers against some of the best talent in the nation the last two years. He will need some time to devolp but has a high ceiling. He would have been a top 10 pick if he came out last year and could be the best QB to come out of this class when it is all said and done.

With the 5th Pick in the 2nd Round The Atlanta Falcons Select.....

Anthony Collins OT Kansas Jayhawks 6'5" 310 Lbs.

This was a tuff pick with a few of the players we were looking at going right in front of us but we have a severe problem at tackle. Wayne Gandy is 36 and slowing down immensely and the depth at the tackle position is non existent. Anthony Collins gives us a guy who can come in and add to our depth and can become a pro bowl left tackle. Other options at this pick were a running back or corner but we thing we can get the running back we want at out other 2nd round pick.

Tough choice here for the Jets. Their BPA isn't exactly a person of need. The Jets need offensive line help, an outside rusher, and a nose tackle who can actually play the 3-4. With that in mind, they just think it's in their best interest to choose the BPA. With the 6th pick in the 2nd round the New York Jets select.... Phillip Merling, DE/LB from Clemson. Merling will probably come in and play defensive end in the 3-4 although some believe he could play outside linebacker. He's too good of a talent to fall this far, some drafts have him in the top 15 picks. The Jets think they have two draft day steals with Darren McFadden and Phillip Merling.

With the 7th pick in the 2nd round, the Baltimore Ravens select...
Patrick Lee, CB, Auburn

With both McAllister and Rolle having their better days slipping away from them, the Ravens have a hole at the cornerback position. Lee is a cornerback with an great amount of potential and with McAllister and Rolle manning the starting slots for the next year or so, he'll have more time to transition to the professional level. Lee is known for his athleticism, from his speed to his strength. He was a standout at Auburn his senior year and will look to build off that.

With the 8th pick in the second round the San Fransisco 49ers select EARLY DOUCET, WR, LSU

Height-6'0
Weight-215
College-LSU
Position-WR

The 49ers need help on Offense. They had the worst passing offense this year. If their going to keep Alex Smith at QB their going to need to give him help. Doucet is a playmaker who has great size and speed. With Vernon Davis at TE, Doucet will make a impact at WR. He should be a starter when he gets to San Fran.

With the 9th pick in the 2nd round, the New Orleans Saints select...

James Lofton, MLB, Oklahoma

ncf_u_lofton_195-1.jpg

--The Saints have been plagued with a mediocre middle linebacker core with the below average Mark Simoneau and Brian Simmons isn't much better. James Lofton gives the Saints a better linebacker crew instantly as his awareness is top notch and is a solid tackler. With the addition of Kenny Phillips in the first round, the Saints found another gem in Lofton. Expect the Saints to have a much better defense that will work much better with their high powered offense.

i dont know why my post didnt show up yesterday but i picked kentean balmer. i had a big long discussion on here but im not gonna type it on here again. i'll sum it up. balmer here is a steal!

With the 12th pick in the 2nd round the Carolina Panthers are pleased to pick the QB out of Delaware Joe Flacco. Although raw, we feel he'll be able to sit on the bench for the next two years while he learns the game, improves his footwork and learns to read defenses.
