I get what you're saying because everyone has their own tolerance. I know with my friends and co-workers we rib each other like that and worse but no one gets hurt, everyone inVolved has thick skin and now out to really hurt each other.
I'm fascinated with race relations regarding the "N" word and how it's used with people. I know most black people call each other that but would never hear it from someone who is white. But now this case it seems like Starks and rest of the black players didn't have a problem with it and it seems it's used in their locker room as an endearment term.

i think there's a point where you have to look at the context.

i've heard plenty of people black , white, whatever using the term casually as in "that nigga is funny" or "thats my nigga"

i have never in my lifeheard anyone of any color, especially black call someone a "half ****** piece of ****" casually as a term of endearment.

i said somewhere else that this can easily be explained as martin trying to fit in and laugh it off, hoping desperately deep down that the abuse would stop. like i said, previous apparent condoning of the abuse doesn't preclude the victim from changing their mind.

But not making it clear to management is the problem. The fact of the matter is Martin never drew a line as to where the joking stopped and the so called bullying occurred. The first step is always to tell your boss. If Martin acts like one of the guys and then freaks out I'm mean come on. It's also clear that this really wasn't bullying by the accounts of the eye witnesses in the locker room. Everyone defending Martin can say what u want and speculate all day long....bottom line is we have to listen to the folks that were there

Whatever happened to those texts from Incognito to Martin when this first happened? You know the ones where Incognito texted to see if he was alright, and Martin responded saying it's not his fault? How did that story get buried under all this negative BS circling the media?

incognito left voicemails calling the guy a half ****** piece of ****, said h'd slap his real mother and **** in his moth and told him he'd kill him. i don't think any lawyer who has a heartbeat will too hard a time showing this as harassment, especially since the harassment was still going on up until martin left.

again, like so many others out of context. He said I heard you been working out for 10 weeks. I'll kill you. He meant no matter how much you work out I'll still be stronger, tuffer........I can't believe the people that are making that out as a death threat. He over stepped no question about it but some people can pull one word out of a conversation and make it say anything.

Jon didn't mean any of that. He was deathly afraid Richie was going to fly out to California, slap his mom in the face, **** down his mouth, and then kill him.

same can be said about a battered wife who stays with her husband for years and years. mental abuse can really screw with a weak person and even cause them to try harder to get the abusers approval and friendship. by all accounts martin seems to be a weakminded man.

Okay, so far we have seen comparisons between Richie and:

1. Hitler
2. Robert De Niro in CAPE FEAR
3. A wife-beater
4. O'Doyle from that Adam Sandler movie

Yup I'd say we've hit almost the full spectrum here.

It's not a real issue anymore .... the basis of the context has been reestablished by the players. They can release all they want now, their case is in disarray.

Hartline's comments about Martin sharing and laughing are devastating.

a good lawyer could poke holes in that theory all day with enough evidence. The fact that a second year player was still getting the treatment from cogs is disturbing in and of itself to me. WTF? Did coaches really think this stuff "toughens up" a guy?

I played OL in HS on a high ranked NY state team. We got tough in August in the hot 90 degree sun getting in shape and hitting the sled til we puked. This crap is for the birds!

if you ask me the bottom line is that if martin got fed up he should have just layed a beatin gon incognito. or at least tried. as a parent of 2 boys i teach my sons that if someone tries to bully or hit them they are to punch them dead in their face, or kick them in the balls (they are 9 and 6). i will not teach my kids to take the abuse and then tell. i tell them to defend themselves above all else. i don't agree with the way martin handled this, but i still think he will get a settlement out of it and that the nfl will wind up implementing hazing rules after all this is said and done

The aggrieved person has the responsibility to either-

1. Inform the other party that the comments are no longer acceptable, or

2. Inform an authority figure and get them involved

NEITHER of which took place, by any evidentiary standard that can apply here.

Look, I want richie back, and I think Martin took this to far.

But let's not act like richie is innocent, or didn't have something like this coming. I don't think richie is a full blown racist, but it's also not acceptable under any circumstances to say those kinds of things.

My guess is richie has own problems emotionally, and personality wise, most people who act and talk like him do. Mix that kindnof personality with Martin, who seems to have his own set of problems, and this is the nonsense that can happen. Neither are innocent in this IMO. Its just unfortunate.

i've known kids who would hang out with people who constantly abused them and made them the butt of all the jokes. they would try harder and harder to fit in and be "accepted". it's similar to battered wife syndrome.
