Never thought that when I started doing video of go karting 9 years ago that I would ever capture moments like this.
Biggest 4-cycle race in North America and the defending Masters Champion Marc Stehle allows us to film his race from his kart and do a vlog of the weekend.
This is the last lap of race as he tries to defend the lead for a last gasp drag to the line after they pull away from 3rd. He wins by inches and displays the emotions after the win in the video. I have tons of video of his weekend and his motorsports operation. They had a tent of 42 karts there under his name. They took 4 podium spots in the different classes.
My brother and I didn't fare as well. He got crashed out in 2 of the 3 heat races and had to start near the back of the Grand Final. He made it through first carnage but halfway thru lap 1 someone spun right in front of him, and he destroyed his kart and had to retire from race. 2 years ago, he bent an axle in the first lap and had to do same. Bum racing luck.
I had mechanical failure during qualifying and didn't get a timed lap. So, I started heat race #1 in 54 and moved up to 36 getting hard charger for the race. In heat #2 I kept moving forward finishing in 20th place. In practice sessions before qualifying, I was running lap times in the top 20. You are your time. Heat race #3 my luck ran out and I got put off the track twice in the same lap and fell back to last place. All that work of passing 34 karts was gone. The missed qualifying and bad heat 3 put me starting 34th instead of near 20 in the Grand Final. I got taken out in the final on the first turn and had to get out of kart to get it back on track. Gave up 30 seconds to the leaders on first lap but managed not to get lapped and finished in 37th after passing a dozen karts. Its a rough race. You need to qualify up front to keep away from the wannabes.
Results sucked for me, but it was still fun passing all of those karts and working on a winning team with Marc and my brother is something you will never forget.
