New rumor and fins switch to the 4-3

Mark Anderson's production isn't hinged on playing for Belichek. He has tremendous lower body explosion which is the key component of any top level pass rusher. He had 12 sacks as a rookie in Chicago while mainly only being a 3rd down rush specialist. Which is essentially what Aldon Smith just did for the 49ers as a rookie. Anderson is one of the most underrated Bama defenders of the past decade or so. As a matter of fact, both Rookie Defensive Player of the Year Award finalists in 2006 were both Bama players. DeMeco Ryans and Anderson finished #1 and #2 in the voting.

I remember Anderson dominating Mike Leach's high powered Texas Tech offense in the Cotton Bowl his Senior season, and was the key to holding them to 3 points for the first 58 minutes or so of the game. Not to mention he was blocking TT's field goal attempts.

He can flat out rush the passer and I think Miami would be wise to sign him, especially if they plan on moving to the 4-3 defense.

I remember that Texas Tech game. Bama did a great job in that game. Demeco Ryans had a nice game too. It was not a game where he was going to get much opportunity to do things. I remember heading into that game not sure if Demeco was a versatile player or not, and then after I thought he had what it took. I loved the top three linebackers in that draft, Hawk, Ryans and Greenway. Took some time for Hawk but he's acquitted himself well.

Mark Anderson absolutely blew the doors off the Combine with his frame measurements and testing. One of the best combine performances on a size-adjusted basis that I've ever seen.

This qb situation could go multiple ways and is still active. I will say that the original plan was to pick up flynn as he is plug and play with philbin. I will also say that ross would love to have manning. Additionally I will also say that miami is high on QB Ryan Tannehill. I was also told that we can afford mario and flynn on the same team. Nothing concerning the qb is clear right now so that all i can give you.

That is nothing , again ...

Connect the dots , NOTHING more ...

No inside information , no sharing team secrets , nothing but easily put together conjecture, why anyone believes otherwise is illogogical.

Message board diversion , nothing more than that , and if some people trust in it as more , well that is up to them if they like to be fooled.

I was merely stating when he stated things. People telling me to do my own research and form my opinion are making me laugh considering they are probably the people saying "WE GOTTA SIGN PEYTON MANNING. WE GOTTA SIGN MARIO WILLIAMS. WE GOTTA SIGN REGGIE NELSON. TRADE UP FOR RG3. BOOM! CHAMPIONSHIP!"

Football is my absolute passion, especially Dolphins football. There are a handful of people that know more than I do on this board and I recognize them as such, but it sure as hell is not the people talking thus far.

just because people aren't "seasoned veterans" doesn't mean they know less than you!

Even if Mario is high on Miami's list of Free Agents. Don't think it will be an easy sell to Mario..

He has stated that he will not be signing this contract based on money. He wants to play in a system that gives him the best chance to play at a high level. He wants to play at a high level and win games.

While a 4-3 system with Mario, Wake, Starks and Ordrick (Although I would rather try keep Langford over Odrick and slide him inside.) would be tempting.

Let's take a look at our team with a 4-3 look...

DL would be stout with some good depth.

LB's would need to be upgraded. Misi has not shown enough to make me think he is going to play at a much higher level this year. Dansby can handle the 3-4/4-3 switch and is a big part of the Defense. Burnett played well enough last season to make me think we can help hide his weaker play in some areas using the rest of the defense.

CB's I have no issues with our starting CB's. Sure Smith drops the balls, but damn man he is still stopping the play! VD is going to get better this season and show some lockdown skills in some big games. Our NB & DB needs upgrades and more depth. Wilson could end up being a very good player for us in the future. But I think he will need a few more seasons to take the next step. If we go with our current CB's... gonna get ugly when teams have a good TE or slot WR.

S's Nothing but love for Bell for years now. That being said he is getting older and if he loses a step more... Could end up being not much more than a run stuffer at best. The FS position also needs an upgrade and the draft/FA should bring this team at least 2 new safeties. I would still keep Clemons around for his smart play, even with his bad hands. Jones is better suited for SS and will give him a few more seasons to progress. I think he can turn into a solid SS for our team.

...

If I am Mario and looking at the above...

Gotta think there is plenty of holes on the defense. But would love having Wake on the other side with 2 good run stuffers in the middle. Average LB's as a corp... Got some CB's that will make some plays on the ball from QB pressure and early throws, but might not catch the ball. Safeties are weak overall and will allow some big plays from QB's every week. Then not having an offense that scares teams...

Got an owner in Miami that will overpay for my services. But I manage my money well enough now, so I am not looking for just money. I want to remain elite and WIN!

So no thanks Miami. Find a QB and rebuild the 4-3 system... But not gonna risk signing with Miami just for the money.

...

I think he would sign with another 3-4 team before he signs with Miami.

My guess... Saints, Lions, Falcons, NE lands his services.

mm sauce ....

It seems to me like some of you are jealous that other's may or may not have connections to information about the Dolphins. People the Dolphins organization aren't hermits. They eat, go out, and drink like everyone else. It's not that far-fetched to think people have some sort of inside info. If they end up being wrong, who cares? It's interesting to think about. I notice some hatred towards CK and Boomer? If I'm not mistaken, CK was the NFL Network and is on twitter, tweeting back and forth with people in the know. Boomer writes for Dave Hyde. This is much more than anyone here posting at finheaven can say. It sounds like jealousy to me. When from a fan standpoint, hearing these "rumors" are exciting. If they work, awesome. If they don't, whatever.

I also forgot to mention that since the 3-4 has become so popular there are actually more 4-3 compatible draft prospects available and you get better bang for your buck in the draft.

Its has been stated the 4-3 is cheaper. You only have to pay 1 DL, 1 LB, & 1 Secondary member big $$.

Whereas, in the 3-4, you have to pay 1 DL (usually the NT), 2 LB's (typically both OLB's), & 1 secondary member big time cash.

just because people aren't "seasoned veterans" doesn't mean they know less than you!

...okay? Literally never made that statement or anything that inferred that statement. Nice strawman argument. I'm genuiinely curious where you came to that conclusion.

The thought of adding Mario Williams to a DLine consisting of Starks, Odrick and Wake is extremely tempting.....all 4 of those guys are really good pass rushers and would resemble the Giants Dlines that have beat up Brady in the past. If we have the chance to sign Williams, that would be really hard to turn down.

But.....

He's not going to come cheap. That we all know. And the question has to be....is it really worth it to pay him that much? In today's NFL, the salary cap plays just a big a role in wins/losses as the games themselves. There's a reason the Colts sucked this year. It's called bad cap management. Peyton (16M), Freeney (16M) and Wayne (8M) counted for 40 million dollars against the cap. For that reason, they have very little talent elsewhere throughout the team....which was fine when Manning played but once he went down, they had nothing. On the flipside, the Giants only have 2 players over 8M, and only 1 over 10M (Eli at 12M). The Patriots only had 1 player over 5.2 M (Brady at 13M), the Packers only 2 over 6.6M (Woodson and Rodgers, 19M total for the 2), the Saints 2 over 8M (W Smith at 8.75 and Brees at 11.7). And then there's Miami who had 3 over 10M last year....Soliai (12.38M), Long (11.2M) and Marshall (10.6M).....and none were a QB like the good teams! So even if Soliai walks and opens up 12M, Williams was making 15M last year with Houston, so it puts us even deeper in the hole. Oh, and that doesn't even count the fact that Dansby's cap number balloons to 12.8M in 2012. Can we really afford that when we don't even have a QB yet? And with contracts for Wake, Bush, Starks , Long and others coming up after 2012?

That's why it's important to be diligent and balancing the roster properly through the Draft and FA and not being so blindly reactive to make a big splash and handcuffing the franchise for years the way Dan Snyder has done in Washington for a while now.

Wasn't it reported in the last 2-3 days that the Fins were going to stay 3/4 hybrid? I think the coaching staff likes what they see from the tapes. Why change something that is working pretty good and could be improved with a little bit of tweaking and a little better play calling?

As far as creditability of sources, no one is credible except for the coaches. Second hand information is just a rumor in my book.
I am sure the coaches are keeping a tight lip and are not sharing their plans with acquaintances and friends. Any information they release to the press is the gospel, not idle gossip while waiting for a table in a restaurant, or rubbing elbows at a bar.
Just my .02

And if we are running the 4-3 /3-4 Hybrid, why go after Avril who hasn't demonstrated an ability to stand up and rush the passer? Or do any of the other requirements of a solid 3-4 OLB?

With the way prices are looking, and the hybrid system... we should really look into Anthony Spencer. He would provide superb depth and even go into a starting role, actually. He's not a strong pass rusher but does a lot of things really well at both parts. He'll be a 7-9 sacks a season type guy on our squad.
