NFL and DirecTV agree to new 8 year deal for Sunday Ticket

most people will just take your word for this, but having worked in communications for the last 10 years i know you're just talking out of your ass.

DTV sucks. I can't get satelite reception because of one tree in my neighbor's yard. So yes I think it's antiquated that in 2014 a freaking tree is an insurmountable obstacle to me watching football. And their streaming service is complete garbage. It
Freezes, losses connection, and skips entire drives. I only have these streaming problems with Sunday ticket online, nothing else. I had dtv before I moved and hated it. My bill was never what I agreed on and I had to call and negotiate/complain every month. DTV is a horrible horrible company that I despise.

I just want to watch my dolphins and DTV blocks me from it. &$@! Them!

Old technology. How? Satellites are needed because fiber isnt everywhere and and l dont think it will be no time soon. Eight years is about right. I must say the online Sunday ticket service sucks.

I think I worded my initial statement rather clumsily. It isn't really about the technology, but rather the distribution model. It's going the way of the dodo. In 8 years, it will seem like what the mail service feels like today, a relic of a bygone era.

With the rise of hi speed internet connections, many people are beginning to cut cable TV altogether. I haven't had a cable subscription in 3 years, Netflix and Hulu are all I need for my entertainment fix.

It's often been a common complaint that people don't want to pay out of the ass for 300+ channels of which they watch maybe 4 regularly. Nowadays, there are other options for folks who don't want a bloated TV service.

it's getting worse and worse for cable providers each year, and they protect themselves with their cable internet service. DTV doesn't have that luxury.

In this very thread there are several posters who appear to be tied to DTV mostly because of the ticket. I am certain that if DTV lost the NFL contract they would be out of business in 5 years.

I got the Streaming ticket last year as part of the Madden deal. It was absolutely dreadful. It didn't even work until at least Week 3. And their customer service is horrendous

I think you're spot on. Luckily for DTV they are being bought out by AT&T assuming FCC and justice department allow it. But consumers are fed up with the $200 a month cable bills for 300 channels of garbage.

Olo
agreed, i have had sunday ticket since it came out, and since they have added redzone, i can honestly say i have never watched it.

redzone is for fantasy sport players only.

the one feature i like though with sunday ticket that was added a few years ago ( or at least i only noticed it a few years ago) is the replay of every single game from sunday ticket in 30 minutes worth.

lets u watch every other game in a short period of time that u miss due to dolphin games or other games.
Quite an assumption that it's for fantasy football considering you admit to having never watched it.

Digital nailed it and I'll add the last two minutes of the early games are something to experience when you go quad box or switch from game to game. I was skeptical initially but it only took a few minutes to hook me.

I use my iPad or iPhone to track my fantasy teams.

Ah, I didn't know AT&T was acquiring them. Quizzical move, IMO.

However, it looks like the NFL deal is a big part of the reason why AT&T is interested in buying them: http://www.cnet.com/news/directv-secures-nfl-sunday-ticket-deal-imperative-to-at-t-merger/

I don't think it's DTV's fault that the 300 channels show garbage. it's not their channels, they don't have control over what those channels show. They just provide a way to view those channels.

Its upsetting that this is an exclusive deal with DirecTV (aka AT&T). I was hoping for some other outelts to market because DirecTV cable package prices are getting ridiculous compared to some packages other networks provide. 8 years...feck

Anyone remember a few years ago when the NFL experimented with a few Monday night games being broadcast online and you could pick what camera angle you wanted to watch? they even had cameras that just isolated on some star players and you could just watch those cameras live. You could choose end zone cam or 50 yardline cam - it was completely up to you how you wanted to watch the game live. I was hoping the NFL went that route on a permanent basis.

Right, but they force you to purchase all those **** channels. They COULD offer "ala carte" cable subscription service wherein you only subscribe to a package of channels you actually watch. I suppose it must not be financially viable since none of the cable providers do this. Or maybe its some kind of contractual thing between the channels and the cable provider? I don't know, all I know is that cable service would be a lot more alluring if you were able to select only the channels you actually want to watch.
