NFL and DirecTV agree to new 8 year deal for Sunday Ticket

Right, but they force you to purchase all those **** channels. They COULD offer "ala carte" cable subscription service wherein you only subscribe to a package of channels you actually watch. I suppose it must not be financially viable since none of the cable providers do this. Or maybe its some kind of contractual thing between the channels and the cable provider? I don't know, all I know is that cable service would be a lot more alluring if you were able to select only the channels you actually want to watch.

I wish the industry would go a la carte, but its not the cable companies pushing this. Its the production companies. You want to pay for the rights to broadcast ESPN? Well you have to buy all of the other Disney channels too. Its how the media companies get you to buy ****ty start up channels. I would love it if I could just pay for the 5 channels I watch.

I imagine before these 8 years are up directv's model will look different. To compete and make this a valuable aggrement things will have to change to compete with the evolving market.

is fantasy football not the main purpose of the invention of red zone?

isnt the purpose of it to show when teams are only in the red zone, hence the name red zone?

ur not going to see a teams full drive, u will see when they get close to the red zone, so u will see the end of the drive, but u will not know what plays transpired to get them to that point?

i much rather watch a game in its entirety rather than just see glimpses of the game here and there.

i guess red zone is better than nothing, but sunday ticket is the best.

its weird though because i have the option of it, but just never thought of turning to it. when i see a game is going down to the wire, the early games specifically, ill just go the channel of the game.

maybe this sunday since the fins r not playing ill try nfl game mix for a bit, that seems cool, 8 games at once, but deff can not watch football like that for a lengthy amount of time.

I agree with this 100%. If I didn't have Sunday Ticket, I would love Red Zone. But there's no way I take RZ over ST, especially if I'm watching the Fins. I want to see every play of the Fins game. Then during commercials or halftime, I'll go to RZ. I don't want to only see 1/5 of the Fins game and be subjected to watch Jags/Browns, Redskins/Vikings, Cards/Texans, etc.

Call me crazy. But has having the Redzone sort of made the Directv NFL ticket package almost useless...

How so? I watch the Phins play ever week, not just teams that are about to score.

Much prefer game rewind because u can watch the games all through the week. The Sunday ticket to me is a ripoff but if if you feel good about it then its worth it to u.
I would be in favor of a one team package where u could watch all their games. Make it like 40 dollars

What fun is it to watch a game when you already know the outcome?

I wish they would just let us subscribe to only whichever team(s) we wanted (needed) to see. Like the Dolphins for us, for lets say 50 bucks a year.

I also really wish they would also offer a one team package of some sort. It's not like having all those games does me personally any good anyway. I Phins almost always play at one when most of the other games are on. There are rarely if ever more than three games on at four and I have the option to watch the national broadcast of two of them.

I would think if they would offer a package such as this for even as much as $100 they would in the end make more money since so many more could/would pay that.

I have paid $180 for the nfl ticket and superfan package. Every year I call and complain to cancel. One year got for free, once for $100, but. I tell them I won't pay over $180 done that every year but one since the charge raised above that. Had the ticket since 2000.

We can bitch and moan about the providers all we want but this is the real reason we are stuff with a bunch of crap that no one ever watches.

Take Viacom for an example.

I want Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, NickToons, and Spike TV but could give a crap less about all the music channels, or at least what used to be music, BET, LOGO, and the rest of the garbage they have.

That's great news for me, I've been a FAITHFUL Sunday Ticket viewer since 1998. For those tying to compare the RZC to Sunday Ticket, there is no comparision. The Redzone is a great option for fantasy football, but for those who want to watch any game exclusively will love the Sunday ticket. Yes, it's exciting when any team is in the redzone, but I want to know how they got there too, there are some great plays made (offensively and defensively) outside of the redzone. Plus the other option with the ticket, NFL rewind, is awesome, you can watch any game (every play) in 30 minutes.

Every Sunday my friends make plans on where to watch the games, some have Comcast/Verizon with the RZC, and others have DTV-Sunday Ticket. The group prefers to watch Sunday Ticket and that includes the ones who have the RZC.

I never have any reception issues. Customer service has always been great, I'm offered free perks all the time for being a loyal customer, and my friends who have DTV receive the same treatment.

I personally prefer the Red Zone/ CBS/Sports Bar route with Game rewind...much cheaper...

As far as Red Zone...if the only thing they are showing on the network is a **** game then Red Zone is excellent...

Direct TV getting 8 more years....ugg....

I would think this is good news for the salary cap next year?

I would think this is good news for the salary cap next year?

All depends on if this new contract pays the NFL more than what they paid the NFL last year. I haven't seen any financial numbers yet...
