Why is Rob Ryan so high on your list? Not disagreeing just trying to understand. I wanted Ryan pretty heavily at one point but have slowly backed off. What do you like abut home and what do you dislike?

* 3-4 Defensive Guy
* Does well vs. Tom Brady
* Might keep Daboll, which would give some continuity to the offense
* Might instill some confidence in players with his bravado
* Would move the needle with the public

At the end of the day, I would probably not select him. I am not a fan of the bombastic tone. However, I would take him ahead of Mangini or Brian Schottenhemeir or even Les Miles.

if Salguero's reporting has merit, then we're looking at a 1st timer/coordinator

He has also reported the opposite in that we would sign a big name. Salguero is full of it and he has lost all credibility with me.

I did not know if we could put names together of possible coaching candidates. We have debated many along the way. I divided them into certain groups. It seems like there could a ton of openings. The team might have to be creative and or compete for the proper coach. Please add names that I have omitted.

The “Big Names”-
the coach has pedigree and a history of winning in the past. Would supposedly put interest back in the team.
  • Bill Cowher
  • Tony Dungy
  • Jeff Fisher
  • Jon Gruden
  • Andy Reid
The “Recylcled Coach”- Previously a coach (or presumed to be fired). Do they deserve a second shot?
  • Brian Billick
  • Tom Cable
  • Dom Capers
  • Romeo Crennel
  • Jack Del Rio
  • Herm Edwards
  • Jim Haslett
  • Eric Mangini
  • Mike Martz
  • Marty Morningweg
  • Jim Mora Jr.
  • Mike Mularkey
  • Josh McDaniels
  • Mike Nolan
  • Steve Spagnuolo
  • Marty Schottenheimer
  • Mike Sherman
  • Norv Turner
  • Gregg Williams
Offensive Coordinators or QB/O-Line Coaches- could these guys be a new innovative offensive mind?
  • Pete Carmichael
  • Rob Chudzinski
  • Tom Clements
  • Russ Grimm
  • Jay Gruden
  • Dirk Koetter
  • Winston Moss
  • Bill Musgrave
  • Joe Philbin
  • Brian Schottenheimer
  • Marc Trestman
Defensive Coordinators or DB Coaches- many feel there are solid coaches in waiting amongst this group.
  • Todd Bowles
  • Perry Fewell
  • Chuck Pagano
  • Mike Pettine
  • Rob Ryan
  • Mike Zimmer
Special Teams Coaches
  • Bobby April
  • Dave Toub
NCAA Coaches- does Ross go for the “wow” factor by digging from the college ranks?
  • Kirk Ferentz
  • Les Miles
  • Bob Stoops
  • Jim Tressel
  • Charlie Weiss
  • Chip Kelly

i think in the end it will be fisher or billick but don't count out gruden!

Who would be your six that you would interview at this point? Feel free to make adjustments from weeks prior.

The answer is glaringly obvious.

Raid the Saints for all you can get. Ross needs to spare no amount of money and get Pete Carmichael and Aaron Kromer(OL coach).

Carmichael is loved by the Saints players. We would have a good shot at landing free agents OG Carl Nicks,WR Robert Meachem,WR Marques Colston,DT's Aubrayo Franklin and Shaun Rogers if Soliai isn't back.

This is a no-brainer IMO. The Saints have had the best OL for the last three years and their offense is perennially at the top in the NFL.

Draft a QB and a RT, sign Carmichael and Kromer, Nicks and Meachem and we win the division, provided they drafted Weeden.

Can someone give the positives and negatives on Tony Dungy (if he was interested). Seems like and intriuging(sp?) idea; he built a Super Bowl team in Tampa without an elite QB (one of our deficiencies) and won one in Indy with and elite QB. Reminds me of Shula; able to adapt.

Dungy is not interested, and we do not have the players on D to play the Tampa 2 at all. Great motivational coach though and gets the best out of every player. Though he is very laid back with practice and his teams in Indy were known for being soft.

i don't mind any of the big name coaches, i prefer fisher, but i would love an up and coming coach a lot of the teams out there have young coaches and it seems to be working for them, i would love chudzinski, and bring in jimmy johnson as a consultant, and bring in assistant gm to be the gm of this prefer ted thompsons assistant or ozzie newsome assistant

imo i just dont think we go after just anybody as ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL those names are mentioned ,imo fisher gruden ,or cowher will be the next coach in miami , as Ross has said NOT JUST ANY COACH WILL DO AND HE SAID OUT OF HIS OWN MOUTH THAT HE WANTED SOMEONE THAT HAS PROVEN( IN THE NFL ) IN THE NFL AND 90% OF ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL THESE COACHES BEING NAME NEVER DONE SQUAT (IN THE NFL )THERES THAT WORD AGAIN ( IN THE NFL) PEOPLE CAN SPECTULATE ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL THEY WANT BUT IN THE END ROSS WILL GET ONE OF THE BIG 3 AND EVEN IF IT TAKES A KINGS RANSOM I SEE HIM PULLING THE TRIGGER... THANX

The bravado wears thin quickly IMO. Looking at Rex with the Jets it seems like his style is wearing on people and effecting his team. At first the media loved it but now they're turning on him cause he's making promises he can't keep and all his talk is a lot of noise. I'm not a fan of his style either.

And if the owner is looking to move the "needle with the public" then he's already failed. Public approval should be the last thing...actually it should even be a thing...on the list of qualifications for the new coach. When Baltimore hired John Harbaugh who was a special teams and DB coach he wasn't a big name splash. I'm sure he wasn't at the top of the list of public approval. When Mike McCarthy was hired in Green Bay after only one season as an OC for San Fran in which the team finished 4-12 and only scored 239 points (good for 30th in the league and the offense only scored 18 total TDs that year) I'm certain that he wasn't a popular pick for the Green Bay faithful.

Ross needs to hire the right guy, screw what the public thinks. When we're winning games consistantly again he can say I told you so, I'm not looking for a big name coach I just want the right coach. My only desire in the new coach is that we stay with the 3-4 defense.

I agree. Just making arguments at this point.
