Nfl development league

It's more than just player developmental league. It's for coaches, administrators, referees, and front office personnel as well.

We already had a development league in the NFL Europe league, but the NFL closed that league because it couldn't sustain itself. I don't see us trying it again only a few years after the original was closed.

Well let's see. First they put the league in Europe. Our style of football wasn't popular over there during that time. They barely filled the stands. Secondly, it's been seven years. That is more than a few years.

If they opened up a developmental league, like the minor leagues, here in the states it would work. You let them play in small local stadiums, keep prices low so attendance is high and it allows guys that are ready for the NFL to at least have some sort of career in football that uses NFL rules outside of going to the CFL or AFL. The NFL is at an all time high in popularity. The chances a developmental league would work now is very good.

7 years is nothing in developing a new market in a national demand for minor league football. Chances are that if the demand wasn't there 7 years ago, its likely not there now. The NFL has market analysts all over this, and if there was any kind of demand that could generate real profits for the NFL, they would have developed a business model and implemented it a long time ago. The truth of the matter is, every decade or so a supplemental football league opens up and closes within few years. They just aren't popular enough to sustain operations.

So lets count all the recent supplemental leagues that couldn't sustain itself:

NFL Europe
United Football League
World League Football
XFL
Arena Football
USFL

The only one that was used that way was the NFLE. The rest of those were meant to be direct competitors and didn't use the NFL rules. The NFLE was **** down to focus on regular season international games. Coupled with the fact that they were trying to make a brand new league work over seas. A market that is dominated by soccer or real football. The market for NFL style football is here in the states. Not Europe.

If the NFL backed a league that was here in the states they would have a much better chance of succeeding. Again the NFL is at an all time high in popularity. If people know that they could see possible future NFL stars on a regular basis they would eat it up.

The NFL is at an all time high in popularity in every succeeding year they are in existence.

If there was sustainable demand for an additional NFL league, there would be one. Its that simple. While your gut tells you there is a demand that equates to profitability, there are business people out there that have developed models that are 1000 times more accurate than your gut, especially when making a multimillion dollar business venture. The NFL is not just sitting on their collective heels and scratching their head about this. They know what the demand is, they have smart business people on this, and its just not feasible.

Yep.

If they suck there, why should NFL teams waste time on these guys?

We already have Practice Squads...

Practice squads are only 5 players and a player can only be on them for so long...

They have one It's called college

Samsung Galaxy S III

So according to you the NBA and MLB have it all wrong. They should hire you as a consultant since, in your world, college experience ALWAYS, 100% of the time translates into success at the professional level. Youre right, and NFL developmental league would ass no value whatsoever to any player who needs development.

That would be ****ing awesome! A lot of nobodies would emerge from this.

the nfl wouldn't be wasting their time. that's what the other league is for. Some players don't develop and adjust to the speed of the NFL as fast as others. Some players would be very good if they started, but get pushed down the depth chart because of other circumstances, like teams signing big names who would automatically start. Some players are just game time people. they suck at practice, but shine on gameday. The concept isn't hard to understand, but i'm sure there's a ton of logistics to get this up and running.

Pretty much discredits your entire theory... Well not "pretty much", it DOES discredit your entire theory.

Meh that was really more of a get into the NFL thing than anything else, significant funds were spend on making it an alternative sport for people to get into. IDK who the hell they expected to watch the London Monarchs lol certainly not me.

I don't doubt this wouldn't make any/much money but lets be frank the league can take the hit and it would have many benefits for teams. Miami's team could be the palm beach fins or something, play it at a much smaller scale, "bring your kids to see future NFL stars for $5" or something. It would certainly be a lot more stable than any league set up in Europe

Exactly, want to see if your young qb coach could be a good play caller? Well hear you go

Want to continue the NFLs drive the develop more minority coaches... here you go

also, there are thousands of college players, many who want to play in the nfl, but less than 300 get selected in the draft.

That sounds real nice and all, but when you have a developmental guy who goes undrafted by the NFL, if he can go play in the CFL or Arena League and get paid decent money, why would he play for the Palm Beach Fins for $100/game.
