We cannot pick Savaiinaea unless more of y'all learn to spell his name correctly.I like that idea
Starks/Grant and Saavinea or Ratledge
But Id prefer
Jihaad/Grant and best O line at 51

Just absolute stupidity by Grier on this. What a damn failure.

We don't need "great". Sure, that would be nice, but competency and durability all across the line is what I'd hope we get.I don't see Banks as being a great tackle, but sure, he can get you through if you were forced to play him there.
Hand played 560 or so snaps as an IDL, and CC played 615 or so. That is what needs to be replaced. 1175. Ogbah played 734, but between Chubb and Phillips, they should absorb those. Benito played 481, but 602 in 2023, so he could be seeing an increased workload. By about 100 or so.Pre-Draft thoughts. I think its getting easier to narrow down what Miami is going to do and who they might pick when we see what's available on the board when they are up. I still, no matter who is on the board, unless its Cam Ward or Abdul Carter, would like to trade down an acquire more picks.
1. Free Agency's 2nd wave - There are 10+ Offensive Lineman that are worthy of signing and would help fill a role for Miami. There are about 5-7 CB's available that would probably start for Miami. There are probably 6-8 Safety's available that would help Miami and play significant snaps. Defense lineman? That position has almost been picked clean. MAYBE, there's 3 I would have any interest in..but only to play 300 snaps or so? There will be other cuts from teams after the draft but counting on legit starters is risky business.
2. Not every need is going to be filled. There will probably be a position that looks neglected in the draft but that's where Free Agency is going to come into play or even a trade, possibly.
3. OL starter? Probably need to pick one in the first 60 picks to feel good about what you got and that the player can win the job...but, there are a bunch of guys after that that would be great fits for the scheme and good picks, you just wouldn't be able to pencil them in as starters immediately.
4. Miami's defensive line doesn't necessarily need 3 or 4 bodies, they need to fill about 800 snaps roughly. That can be done with a 3 down player like Mason Graham or Kenneth Grant or Derrick Harmon or whoever you would consider being a 3 down player that doesn't really come off the field very much. If you're going to split it between 2 players, one 1st and 2nd down player that can stop the run and one 3rd down player that can rush the passer, that's okay too, but need to mindful of the skill sets and balance the kind of players you're hoping for. So if you wait and take Alfred Collins, a fan favorite at pick 48, great, that takes care of 1st and 2nd down, but now you need a DT that excels in rushing the passer to play on 3rd down. DL is the ONLY position of real need that HAS TO be filled in the draft.
5. Miami has a HUGE gap from pick 48 to pick 98 and there is a significant drop off in talent during that stretch. Miami NEEDS to acquire more picks in that gap to walk out of the draft feeling good about getting 3-5 contributors in 2025. Trading up early in the draft is not an option in my opinion. Acquire more picks in the 50-90 range, 2 or 3 should be the goal, THEN you can possibly trade up, in my opinion.
6. Miami brought in Anthony Weaver as DC and let Brandon Jones, Deshon Elliott, and Jevon Holland all leave. On the other hand, they signed Jordan Poyer, Marcus Maye, Ashtyn Davis, and Ifeatu Melifonwu. Im not so sure this defense values the Safety position very much.

He was pretty good on the boundary last season. As for whether he will be in the NFL is no more guaranteed than it is with any of the others. There have been a lot of successful boundary corners who were no bigger than Barron, so his size does not concern me. He is experienced, with 57 games at Texas, he is productive, and he is durable. If you want 1k solid snaps from the first-round pick, he is as likely to give it to you as anyone. Banks or Zabel could, too.I'm not as anti-Baron as I am anti-Warren, but I still have my doubts if he is a shutdown boundary corner. Do you think that he is?
CC played outside the Tackle out of necessity and that made Hand have to play more snaps. The numbers are skewed. Better to look at 23' when Sieler and Wilkins were both playing 850-900+ snaps.Hand played 560 or so snaps as an IDL, and CC played 615 or so. That is what needs to be replaced. 1175. Ogbah played 734, but between Chubb and Phillips, they should absorb those. Benito played 481, but 602 in 2023, so he could be seeing an increased workload. By about 100 or so.
We usually carried 5 IDLs on the active roster. Right now, we have 2 worth keeping. So it looks like we need to add three capable of playing.
Nice breakdown, Grier said they would be active with street free agents after the draft. I know this is a soft reset, but they can still be competitive. That will fall on Tua's health.Pre-Draft thoughts. I was speaking as just a pure tackle. I think he can be an excellent guard in Miami's system. We don't need "great". Sure, that would be nice, but competency and durability all across the line is what I'd hope we get.
Can we just call him Jonah? We cannot pick Savaiinaea unless more of y'all learn to spell his name correctly.![]()
If they trade down, I don't see how Kenneth Grant isn't in play. CK makes a good point about if Miami misses out on guards or DBs there are still a few available in free agency but if they miss out on DL they are screwed because there is nothing out there.I've thought if did trade down, especially after all the injury news, it potentially be for Trey Amos. But as you well know Miami has been linked to Starks since the college football season, having heavily scouting him.

In the scenario presented by Daniel Jeremiah, he has Miami trading down to 20 with Denver. That's two spots ahead of the Chargers.Depends how far they trade down. I think Grant’s floor is 22, not sure he makes it past a reunion with Harbaugh
