NFLPA tells Pouncey a suspension is not likely/Fins plan to pick up 5th year option

Damn, bro ... I didn't know Pouncey poured sugar in your gas tank while anally violating the corpse of your great grandmother.

Seriously, though - Does everybody have to be a choir boy? It'd be nice if he were a model citizen, but there's only so many Tim Tebow's in the NFL today ... Oh, wait ... :chuckle:
Why? Because I don't see him as awesome just because he wears Aqua and Orange? I'm a fan of the Dolphins, not a fan of individual players and I see his off-the-field idiocy as a threat to the long-term success of the team. I'm not going to let homerism turn idiots into saints.

Call me crazy, but I prefer professionals because professionals win. A team of assholes makes excuses for their early offseason, but look forward the the massive coke parties at their house afterward.

Nobody is trying to convince themselves he's a stand up guy.

Just because he has some drugs in his house doesn't equal horrible person, yeah his involvement with Hernandez is a red flag but just because you have a dumbass friend doesn't make you a dumbass. Until he is found gulity of running illegal guns or drugs he's not a person people need to worry about.

Also if the guns are legal then him having guns is no big deal.
True, certainly nothing wrong with throwing massive parties known for having a lot of hard drugs (unless you play for NE or the jests, of course). As for Hernandez, he's not your dumbass friend who keeps getting pinched for possession. When you hang out with people like Hernandez, you are a dumbass (generally speaking, not calling you a dumbass, unless you hang out with Hernandez, of course  ). You associate with hard criminals and inevitably put yourself in bad positions. That makes a dumbass. I had friends that went down that road. They're not my friends anymore, because I'm not a dumbass.

As for the gun running, etc. I'm sure he's innocent of EVERYTHING. Rumors like these swirl around everybody, so there is certainly never any truth behind any of them (unless they play for the jests or NE, of course). Hell, Manning is constantly rumored to be around all this kind of stuff, right?

I never once said he's an asshole for owning guns, so not really sure why you keep bringing that up. So long as they are legally-owned, I couldn't care less.

...There's rumors about him and his brother and Hernandez being really close back in college and basically enabling Hernandez to live his thug life, he wanted Hernandez "freed" while he's charged with murder...

And who did Urban Meyer have chaperone Hernandez (& odds are the Pounceys) while in Gainesville to keep them on the straight & narrow?

I disagree, he's someone you really need to worry about. There's rumors about him and his brother and Hernandez being really close back in college and basically enabling Hernandez to live his thug life

The Pounceys did not enable Hernandez's thug life, if fact it was the opposite. The coaches at Florida put the three of them together as a way of dissuading Hernandez from going home to Connecticut over school breaks to keep him away from the bad influences. The coaches even roomed Hernandez with Tebow for the same reasons.
And by now, NFL teams have looked at how Hernandez got from Point A to Point B as they attempt to refine how they review and reject prospects based on off-field problems. It's a challenge, to be sure.
Meyer and his coaches privately told some clubs that, to be managed, it was crucial that Hernandez be surrounded by the right people. At Florida, the staff did its best to dissuade him from going home over breaks in the school calendar because of the element waiting in Connecticut, and even got nervous on game weekends, when that crowd typically would migrate south to Gainesville and roll with Hernandez.

The Gator coaches aligned Hernandez with Mike and Maurkice Pouncey, whom Hernandez roomed with off campus. The three grew close, and the staff generally considered the Pounceys a positive influence. (Since then, Mike has been named in Ted Wells' report as one of the players who contributed to the harassment of Dolphins teammate Jonathan Martin.) Meyer also had Tim Tebow rooming with Hernandez for road games, in the hopes that being around the 2007 Heisman Trophy winner would show the standout tight end the right way to do things.

"The year before he came out, I was at their pro day, and I remember seeing the Pounceys, and then him," said a second AFC college director, whose club had Hernandez on the board, but not draftable where he went (No. 113 overall, in the fourth round). "It was very clear that (the Pounceys) were the leaders, that they were the influential guys, and he was behind them, a tagalong, a follower in that sense. He was always following them. And they were trying to bring him along."

To me, a decision on this issue isn't as much about Pouncey as it is the team! Lets be honest, we need to redo the entire O-line....and that is a heck of a lot easier to do for 4 positions rather than all 5. Pouncey can play, so I'm all for keeping him on the roster and finding two guards and two tackles. That doesn't mean that I have any illusions of Pouncey's immaturity.....he has some clear issues, but it is worth taken some risk on him to improve our odds of getting better in 2014. If you still have concerns after 2014 or 2015, you can always trade or release him then when it is less of a crisis with the O-line than it is now.

Also, I would add, that better coaching of the O-line and a couple of better free agents coming in might have a positive impact on Pouncey and help him get his personal act together. Who really knows.....

Oh no he has guns!

One of my ex friends back in high school murdered someone robbing a gas station. I have guns, I did some recreational drugs in my younger days.

I guess that means I'm terribly low character and don't deserve a chance at anything anymore. I'm probably guilty of some other terrible crimes and my decisions will catch up to me. Oh wait......

Here's that gun thing again. I'm curious, who criticized him for owning guns? I haven't seen one single poster in here do that.

Meh, I prefer good players who are also leaders, unlike Pouncey. Wouldn't hurt if they weren't caught up in drugs, guns, and associating with gangsters either.

Guess I misread or misinterpreted this.

"Guns" was referencing his alleged connection to a gun-running ring, not to him being legal gun owner. Regarding the rest of your post, are you really equating trying a couple of drugs when you were a kid to throwing massive parties known for rampant hard drug use? I also notice you refer to the guy who murdered someone as your "ex-friend." If you were still hanging out with him and others like him, yes, I would consider you a low character person and I wouldn't give you a chance if I were an employer or on my team if I were a GM.

Touché, I could care less if Pouncey was here next year. I also could care less what he does on his own time tbh, it has no affect on me whatsoever which is why I never got all flabbergasted over all these things that came out a few weeks ago.

I will say one thing, he's innocent until proven guilty, until the day he's arrested for involvement with Hernandez or being in possession of illegal narcotics, I don't care.

Quite sure of it actually.

End of the world theories are totally comparable to asserting that our drug dealing, thug loving, douchebag of a center is not a good guy.

Pretty certain huh?

Like I asked when is the world ending.

I only care because it could impact my favorite team. Such antics run the risk of suspension, which hurts my team. Further, if even half the rumors are true, which isn't unlikely (smoke = fire), that's a horrible team dynamic. If the line wasn't a complete disaster, I'd be hoping for a trade, making him someone else's problem.

As for innocent until proven guilty, **** that. This isn't a court. If I'm the GM, I'm being proactive and preparing for his replacement. I don't need the law to tell me someone is an idiot. Pouncey is an idiot and will continue to be one so long as he keeps himself in these situations.

Keep downplaying it, it's much easier that way. "Where there's smoke, there's fire," "the company you keep," etc. You want to convince yourself that he's a standup guy who just happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time ALL the time? Whatever makes you feel better.

Look, I'm under no illusion that he's going anywhere. I know we are stuck with his dumbass for at least another year due to the state of the line (thanks Ireland). You know that. I know that. The team know that. And most of all, Pouncey knows that. But let's not pretend like he's just some poor innocent guy that keeps getting pulled into all the the bad bull**** that happens on this team. His name is listed EVERY time. I'm just going to pray he keeps being damn good at not getting caught red-handed until he leaves (and goes to NE, which is when everyone here that has been blindly supporting him will suddenly be ripping NE for signing someone known for his association with drugs, guns, associating with gangsters, and sexually and/or racially harassing coworkers.

imo i wouldnt care to bet , that if investigated , that over 80% of the players are in to some kind of drugs , or some kind of illegal stuff wheather its guns , drugs , sex crimes , or beating on there wives , NO Team is innocent of being a very clean team ,nobodys perfect , and at the same time we have to take the good with the bad , if every team cut a player/players , that have been in some kind of trouble , or accused of something there wouldnt be a handful of players left in the NFL ..ALOT JUST HAVENT GOTTEN CAUGHT ,but even for the ones that have ,most are still playing some where in the NFL .........

I agree with this line of thinking in general. I just disagree with it in this situation because

a) I think Pouncey can't screw with the team like Incognito did, so whatever damage he can do is just to himself (and the team in that if he gets suspended he's gone)
b) He's cheap and on his last year of contract so we could keep him for 1 season and move on from there
c) We need some good veteran to play next year, and without Pouncey we are down to 0.
d) His trade value is probably low, considering he is probably viewed by other teams as a guy on the verge of trouble and he's on his last year of his contract.

Can we get a good starting OL for him? Trade him. Can we get a 2nd for him? Trade him. I doubt we could get anything like that.

I don't care about the rest of the league (though if that 80% figure is true, they need to shut the whole thing down). I care about the Dolphins. I also think your figures are way off and they certainly don't make the behavior excusable.
