Nick Sabans Attitude

I was reading some article that was talking about Nick Sabans "tough guy" attitude nd it was asking if that will translate well to the NFL. (ala Tom Coughlin)

In college that sort of thing can fly, the kids aren't getting paid, and many of them make the team solely from hard work.

In the NFL its different, you have a lot more selfishness and attitude. These are the guys who have been told they are great for years.

now I'm not saying Saban will fail, but do you think the players will respond well to his style if the struggle at any point? Has this been discussed at all, I mean Saban may be a great coach, and have great schemes, but if they lose early on will the players continue to play for him?

For sure. There is no reason not too, the guys a proven winner at the collgege level, and he's had success in the pros as an assitant.

I thin what they are saying is, will the players by into his attitude if it dosen't translate to victories?

I don't know that there is evidence that Coughlin and Saban have a similar approach with regard to the "tough guy" stance. Coughlin is notorious for imposing extremely punitive measures upon players for minor and seemingly arbitrary reasons with little rationale beyond "that's not my way". I'm unaware of any reported incidents of Saban conducting his program that way.

Depends; if it's fair criticism and holding people accountable for their actions, I don't think these guys need hand-holding. If it's just yelling and uncontrolled anger with no constuctive criticism, he could lose them fast. Unless we're winning, then he's a genius:) .

I don't think they are identical, but Saban is a calssic Tough guy.

I don't think any of the Fins players have that attitude that they wouldn't be able to put up with Sabans demands, but if they don't win it may be more difficyult.

I think after enduring the Wanny Error the team is happy to have a little discipline and toughness from their leader. The main thing will be Saban's attitude after a loss. I remember enjoying Ditka's tirades every Monday a few years ago after the Saints crapped out, then his obligatory apologies on Tuesday. Hopefully we won't see that kind of attitude.

Saban and Belichick mayeb in there strategy, but BB seems alot more laid back than Saban.

And I didn't think that Mularkey was being discussed here, but yes, he is dashing .

Well, if he conducts his program like Tom Coughlin, then yes, the Phins will turn off to it quickly. But since there's no evidence that he does, it's really a stupid question. You might as well ask "if a UFO lands on the practice field, will the players flip out?"

I disagree that Saban is a typical, classical "tough guy" coach.

I think it's more correct that he's an "straight-forward, no-nonsense" coach.

There's a big difference. And Saban's style is better......and liked by players.

To answer your question, I thnk they'll respond just fine. If they don't Nick will deal with them- they have to realize it's a new regime and a new era and things will be getting done the way Saban wants them- if anyone has a problem with that, they'll be shown the door. Again, sorry for the confusion. When I saw how you post started, I thought you were another Bills fan attempting to throw cold water on Saban, which is why I responded the way I did.

No, i didn't even come up with it. i don't know that much about Saban, I was just reading a NFL preview and they asked the same thing, and I figured I'd see what you guys think.

But since the Fins don't really have any prima donna attitudes on there team it shouldn't be a problem.
