Ogbah’s Injury and the Defense

This is F'n bullshit from a notorious consumer of the hateraid. Grier has gotten Chubb, Flowers, extended Ogbah (who was playing very well) Phillips, and other competent DE's on practice squad to develop.
Yah that rah rah crap is all good while we are healthy enough on the DL, but this year has shown us injuries can wreck things quick.

Kiss Grier's arse all you want, but that doesn't get us one bit stronger or deeper on the D-line. The press who cover the Dolphins screaming bloody murder about it might just get something done.

Don't you want to win out?? Several of the posts on this thread were all about the D-line just being able to get by.
Just getting by is how you get the last wildcard and lose the first game in the playoffs. eff that

Just getting by? Phillips, Chubb, and Wilkins are three of four starters on the DL, and they’re all Pro Bowl quality players. Raekwon is a solid nose tackle. Sieler and Ingram are two of the best backup DL in the league. Van Ginkel is a solid rotation player, too. That’s 7 guys to fill four DL positions.

Trey Flowers is also presumably coming back at some point, and John Jenkins is a rock solid emergency option.

Our DL is excellent. Our problems on defense are the ILBs and the snaps we’ve had to give to Igbinoghene and Crossen.

Chris Grier is the Tua Tagovailoa of GM’s around these parts.

He has built very solid rosters year after year (lone exception being OL) since taking over as GM… now assembled a championship caliber team AND coaching staff, and still gets zero credit and tons of hatred.

and apparently Josh Boyer who can’t coach worth a damn… right?

Lol
I mean, it’s Josh Boyer’s choice to play those ILBs. We don’t have to play Roberts 60% of snaps, you know. He’s a much worse player than Ingram, Van Ginkel, and Riley, all of whom play less snaps than him.

We should be playing 5-1-5 alignment much more than 4-2-5. Our DL and edge talent is vastly superior to our ILB talent. It’s Boyer’s choice to keep trotting out two ILBs who largely stink.

The one thing that stood out with Ogbah was his ability to bat balls at the LOS but... Im not a tape guy, maybe someone could chime in here, but from a statistical standpoint, Im always skeptic when a guy suddently flies off the map on a D thats blitzes more then everyone for an extended period of time.

Both Roberts and Baker had outstanding games vs. the Browns.
Why? Because both players are VERY effective vs. running teams.
So citing their snap count numbers doesn't tell the whole story... I'm not taking Roberts out on a running down when we are playing a running team.
Thus far, we have not invested in a Micah Parsons type ILB, so we are in a platoon.

As far as Baker goes, his strength is blitzing off a corner, and chasing players to a sideline... and because our scheme asks our ILBs to play farther inside, he is miscast in this D. The role he is better at filling is as a WSLB and since we've brought in more speed on the outside this year, he isn't being tasked with what he does best.

Baker needs to be traded in the offseason, while Roberts just needs to be second string.

You cant do it all at once, so like drafting a RB... this slid down our list of needs.

Your gonna need that Defense to be together for the playoff run. Think about the 2 elephants in the room, KC and Barfalo, You think that you're just going to outscore them?
Think again, without a couple stops you will lose against either, on any given day.

I think yesterday’s signing of Zimmer basically confirms our shift away from the odd fronts that Ogbah excelled in.

We’re going to be playing a 4-2 the rest of the way this season, with Chubb, Phillips, Ingram, and Van Ginkel as the edge rushers and Wilkins, Sieler, Raekwon, and Zimmer as the interior guys. Although I’ll hold out hope that maybe this means we’re going to be playing more 5-1.

I was a huge fan of signing Ogbah for 7m back in 2019, and I thought they paid too much to re-sign him in 2022.

He's a good player. Strong at the poa, pushes the pocket, gets his hands on a lot of passes. He's just not dynamic enough to count on to win consistently as a pass rusher.

His dead-cap # is 4m in 2024 and 2m in 2025.
