Thigpen was going out to be a WR. You're saying that he did not get the plays and scheme that Hartline and Wallace did? Ho wcan he copete for the spot if he doesn't get all the plays?
So Don wouldn't talk then!!!
Plus Thigpen just knows his route, like a hitch or whatever few plays he learned, but he doesnt know the "why" behind it - which would be in the game plan given to the offense this week. He doesnt know why his route was called, or that his route was changed because the LB was blitzing, or because another WR was motioned. He just knows his role. The "why" part is what Belichick is after, and he wont get that from a 7th string WR learning a new offense.
I don't think you guys understand how this actually plays out in a coaching chess match...or what BB's intentions actually are.
Yes, Thigpen does know our calls and such, since he knows the entire offense. The point of signing him is not to learn those calls or learn our offense (that would be somewhat pedestrian and obvious). Teams plan for players being picked up by other teams by changing calls around. The move is to force our offense (and defense) to spend time making changes this week, rather than spending time on something else. It also creates more opportunities for blown assignments and confusion pre-snap since all your guys may not be on the same page. This is why both Jones (defense) and Thigpen (offense and ST) were signed.
The objective is not to learn about the other team (that you do through your own intel and study...you're not going to depend on some random players who you probably can't trust). The objective is to **** with the other team's prep time.
