Pats sign Marcus Thigpen

Thigpen was going out to be a WR. You're saying that he did not get the plays and scheme that Hartline and Wallace did? Ho wcan he copete for the spot if he doesn't get all the plays?

Yea, thats what I am saying. Because the game planning started after Thigpen was ousted. Anything Thigpen knew prior to being cut can simply be seen on the preseason tape, and there is no need to grill him for info that can be seen on the preseason tape.

You guys need to give our coaching staff more credit. You think they are really going to send these ex-players out into the NFL with real info that could significantly hurt our chances of winning a ball game?

How is Thiggy eligible for the Patriots Practice Squad but we couldn't put him on ours because he's played 32 games?
And if he was still eligible for Miami's Practice Squad, why didn't we try to stash him there? I don't understand.

thiggy has been exposed to the entire playbook...that's what the offseason otas and minicamps were for install as well as a few practices early in camp...he can give general information but i doubt he knows much more than bits and pieces of what we plan to run sunday...being that the actual gameplan comes out after he was released

Plus Thigpen just knows his route, like a hitch or whatever few plays he learned, but he doesnt know the "why" behind it - which would be in the game plan given to the offense this week. He doesnt know why his route was called, or that his route was changed because the LB was blitzing, or because another WR was motioned. He just knows his role. The "why" part is what Belichick is after, and he wont get that from a 7th string WR learning a new offense.

So Don wouldn't talk then!!!

 That's exactly what I thought when I read this, or that the info Jones gave was useless.

Bill can't seem to get dependable spies or double agents now a days. :idk:

So after Thigpen learns all the pats plays will sign him off the pats practice squad to our active roster for the required number of weeks, download him and release him and round and round it goes. Like what happened with Francis.

Well offenses aren't good enough to install an entirely new system in a couple of weeks. The offense is installed in phases. Everything installed prior to their release will be known by Belichik.

That is most of our offense, our OL calls, our snap count, our audibles, etc. It's easily 80% or more of our offense. The only things he will not have are the gameplan and anything installed very late after cuts.

One year that was a special package called the Wildcat and we had several weeks to practice it before we faced the Patriots. I doubt we have a package with that much impact this time around. But, I'm confident that Lazor will have something new.

I don't think you guys understand how this actually plays out in a coaching chess match...or what BB's intentions actually are.

Yes, Thigpen does know our calls and such, since he knows the entire offense. The point of signing him is not to learn those calls or learn our offense (that would be somewhat pedestrian and obvious). Teams plan for players being picked up by other teams by changing calls around. The move is to force our offense (and defense) to spend time making changes this week, rather than spending time on something else. It also creates more opportunities for blown assignments and confusion pre-snap since all your guys may not be on the same page. This is why both Jones (defense) and Thigpen (offense and ST) were signed.

The objective is not to learn about the other team (that you do through your own intel and study...you're not going to depend on some random players who you probably can't trust). The objective is to **** with the other team's prep time.

he has to know all the hots etc and the calls..they just dont know all the other position assignments...and miami can change up each week the terminology etc and code words etc...which i'm sure they will

that's definitely a part of it...

Does anyone now see the difference between a team with a stud WR with JAG's vs. a team of 5 WR's who can come in and be counted on for big plays? plus clay, plus Mareno. plus read-option.

I tell you what, you won't see him pick up Jets/Bills players for intel, and that should give you an indication of which team is the biggest threat to the Pats in the AFC East

Well hopefully the days of "go" and "go-go" are long behind us. I don't like the fact they signed our former players but its in the rules and nothing stops other teams including us from doing the same. What really gets me going is the players that we cut then come back and literally kick the living day lights out of us in a game.
