Pats sign Marcus Thigpen

I can see BB calling in Thigpen form the practice field into a small room with a big light on Thiggy.

Maybe Joe thought this through and sent Thiigy and Jones off the team to fill BB with he wrong info.....could happen..

Timing is only interesting when someone is a paranoid fan. They're kicking tires on a division rivals talent. If he makes the team it's a win-win.

Guys like Rob Ninkovich once made the Patriots roster and he was concerned scrap heap by all accounts when he was a Dolphin.
You get to say "timing is only interesting in the case of paranoia" like it's clearly that's the only explanation. Right...

Kicking the tires on a division rival's talent? They've seen a lot of him and have a lot of second-hand information. Time will tell.

I don't think you guys understand how this actually plays out in a coaching chess match...or what BB's intentions actually are.

Yes, Thigpen does know our calls and such, since he knows the entire offense. The point of signing him is not to learn those calls or learn our offense (that would be somewhat pedestrian and obvious). Teams plan for players being picked up by other teams by changing calls around. The move is to force our offense (and defense) to spend time making changes this week, rather than spending time on something else. It also creates more opportunities for blown assignments and confusion pre-snap since all your guys may not be on the same page. This is why both Jones (defense) and Thigpen (offense and ST) were signed.

The objective is not to learn about the other team (that you do through your own intel and study...you're not going to depend on some random players who you probably can't trust). The objective is to **** with the other team's prep time.
That's exactly what I was thinking. And furthermore, Philbin is green as a HC, you can be sure Belichick is trying to play with his mind, allowing him to make mistakes. Hell he might not even ask them anything TBH...

It's not like they're signing scrubs, they're signing bubble players... yeah, he'll get info from them, but someone like Thigpen can maybe end up making noise for the Pats and Don Jones was a ST standout for us last season.

Kind of like Grimes for the D and Clabo for the O last year when we faced the Falcons. Although I'm sure our priest of a coach Joe Philbin did't consult with them right? LOL

Except the Dolphins actually brought those guys in to play for the team. Not likely that Jones or Thigpen play or even stay on the team for long.

I would also think that neither Jones nor Thigpen know the tendencies of how Bill Lazor will call a "live" game. no one has seen it yet

1. Its allowed so you need to be more upset about the NFL allowing it than Bill doing it. Really while thats not my style its probably something the phins should be doing too just to take advantage of the situation and at least make it a fair playing field with the Pats. If enough teams did it probably the NFL would lay down some ground rules to stop it which they should. For example it would be fair to sign any player from any team in the offseason but once the season begins you cannot sign any player of any team you are going to play in the next 4 weeks.

It doesn't matter. Can Philbin outcoach BB in a live game situation? He did once last season. Mostly he cannot. That's the biggest edge the Pats have right now. Adjustments.

It makes me feel good that we had enough talent to be able to cut Thigpen. Still, I thought it was dumb to remove him from RB in the first place.
Also, I'm not happy with cutting Damian Williams. Why sign him in the first place? He did great this offseason and preseason and we cut him anyway. Maybe they didn't think Landry would be ready this soon?
