PFF Tannehill analysis (3rd Ranked Passer)

Let me add....Hardline needs to be replaced next year with a big time receiver....Hartline should be a number 5 receiver at best.

This is so true. When your number 2 WR STRUGGLES CONSTANTLY against press man coverage and disappears against top talent time and time again, it's time to realize he ain't helping the team. Nor the QB.

Part of the underlying reason of why Buffalo beats us like a drum is the fact that when they press up and attack, attack, attack w. the front seven, there's really only one or two WRs on our roster that can make them pay. And no TEs so far.

Hartline plays like a sissy against Buffalo every year. It's sickening. Get some real WRs in here. The highest draft pick WR on our roster is Landry. And he's a rookie.

The rest? Other than Landry, the only threat on our roster is Wallace. And that's a fact. Change that AND get some real TEs and you completely change the way Buffalo (and other great defenses) dominate us.

Tannehill:" I haven't been putting the ball in the right spot. I haven't been at my best. It has to change and change fast."

The man himself knows his placement isn't good enough. He doesn't need PFF to know what's obvious.

I know he said that after the New England game. Please tell me he didn't say that after the Buffalo game as well...

What would you expect him to say? "i'm doing fine, it's the guys around me that are screwing up."? Would that make you feel better? How about saying: "I've missed a few, but so what? Everyone does."

Do you believe he has missed every throw? I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that you don't believe that. What percentage of throws were bad? How bad (as compared to an average QB)? That is how PFF grades. As hoops has already said, give some specific examples.

I'm sure every QB wants to hit every throw, but that is simply not realistic.

Hopefully he said it after the buffalo game, his placement was even worse that game!

I agree, he was bad, but I'd rather him not say this after every game. Saying it is one thing, going out and doing what you say is a whole 'nother.

The thing that gets me is that there is really only 1 throw he can't make, but it's the home run throw that is the difference in wins and losses and also plays to his top receiver's strength.

Regardless, I'm not giving up on the kid yet. As I've said before, we're only 2 games into this make or break 3rd season. I'm waiting to see how this entire year plays out before making a judgement if I think he's the guy or not.

That "1 throw he can't make" looked pretty good when Hartline dropped it, Sims dropped it, Wallace did not catch it in bounds. Takes two to complete a pass, not just the QB. Tannehill will not place all deep balls perfectly, no QB does.

I should have used the word 'consistently'. I agree that he has shown he can make it before, but it's all about doing it more times than not. Again, I am in RT's corner. Now that he has taken more ownership of the team and has, IMO, taken more of a leadership role, the deep ball remains my only concern with him. I know not every QB hits that throw every time, but he needs to hit his receivers, namely Wallace, in stride more often, and he knows it.

i'm with ld...out with hartline...this system doesnt need him...like to see us move on in 2015 or put him on the block at the trade deadline if someone will take the bait

Would you then roll with Wallace and Landry on the outside, even though he's a rookie? The idea does make some sense, but not sure of the financial impact (i.e. salary cap).

you have multiple guys that can play inside and outside in your other top 4 wrs...they covet versatility in the wr core...hartlines game is a poor fit for this offense...he's not tough over the middle and goes to ground is worthless in the red zone against anything other than zone and miami is not gonna be auto going to him at the sticks like we have done in years past with this new offense...that's obvious already...add in he cant block a paper bag

i don't think it's a good idea either to have both your top 2 wrs be body catchers either...most the time a guy drives on a route and breaks it up on a stop route etc it's cause those two dont come back to the ball and try to catch everything with their body...wallace is working the more vertical stop routes anyways miami doesnt seem to be showing many come backs in this new system which is hartlines bread and butter...he looks like a fish out of water...

time to move on...i'd be very keen on it right now if i thought mathews wouldn't blow assignments...but i still have reservations on that if he gets more run...

when hartlines not able to shake free of the patriots db who they left on him all game long and miami isnt just gonna force feed him anyways what's the point???

PFF is total crap. Tannehill isn't 3rd in anything. You stat boys kill me with this crap. He's been bad both games so far.

Funny how people here ran off another poster who used stats for his analysis and yet they will happily prop up PFF stats when it suits their argument.

One is using numbers without any regard for what actually happened on the field to make conclusions about the individuals involved. The other is looking at the play of the individuals involved regardless of the end result to make conclusions about the individuals involved. The approaches are nothing like one another.
