PFT Power Rankings - Dolphins at #31

The season all rests on RT's development and the contributions from the last 2 draft classes. Its that simple. I for one, think Landry will have a big impact on this team. I also think our young DB's will upgrade the secondary and the Oline will be much better. Those are factors that you cannot take into consideration when doing a preseason power ranking.

Once again, it is not being a homer to expect, hope, predict, think, dream or whatever the **** you want to call it, for your team to win one more game.

to predict it is, to hope it isn't. It can be done, it shouldn't be expected. based on last year and the moves you made this offseason you deserve to be somewhere in the 20s. that doesn't mean you end up there, you could still end up top 10 but that shouldn't be the expectation.

:sidelol:

An 8-8 team that lost a defensive backup for 4 games and its starting center for a few weeks is now the 31st worst team in the NFL?

After the Browns just lost their best offensive player for the season and the Jags are still the Jags? I'm not even going to argue that Miami should be 10 or even 5 spots higher, but how on earth do you rank them below teams like that? I'm dying of laughter.

The shyster is at it again.

If Cle gets stabile QB play I think they can be a playoff team w/ or w/o Gordon. I think 31 is obviously a little low for you guys but in order to jump up you are going to need that backup DE to take a big step forward and you will need that anchor of your OL to be healthy especially w/ all the new faces on the OL.

So the 2nd worst team in the league can battle for a playoff spot if the offense is decent? Awesome take from PFT then.

if things break right you can, it made sense to rank Miami near the bottom heading into 2008 but things broke perfectly and you played really well and won the division. any team can make the playoffs.

:bobdole: Well **** me sideways ...

Dammit, why to people occasionally have to type things that make me more-or-less (I won't say agree :chuckle:) condone your responses as being acceptable?!?

ARRGH!!! That's frigging TWICE in one month. :bobdole:

I'm logging off & going back to my 30-pack (already in progress) ... Something is very wrong in the universe.

slowly but surely I am converting you:D

PFT's hate for Miami is just incredible

in the past decade Miami has been an easy target, go out and win and PFT and all the media will start to write more positive things. It's all about winning.

it isn't being a homer to expect a team that was 1 game short of the playoffs, be around the same spot the following year, or 1 game better. being a homer means expecting a SB appearance. yes, there are questions, almost every single team has questions. It's not being a homer to expect the offensive line to be better than it was last year, especially with how bad they were. It's also not homer to expect your 3rd year qb to step it up a notch.

I like it!! Don't hype us up we need to show what we can do on field.

it's a new year, the Giants, Bears Cowboys missed by 1 game in 2012 and missed again in 2013 w/ Chi and Dal again missing by just 1 game.

your OL wasn't nearly as bad as you guys think, it wasn't good overall but the 2nd half it actually was pretty good. Your D kept you in a lot of games, will they do that again? can the O pick up that slack? can Ryan step up? your OL is better on paper but good OLs are cohesive units, will they have enough time to become one especially w/ Pouncey out? the last time the OC got all the blame and was fired you were bad on O the next year too.

all of these things can turn up positive and you can be a playoff team, I think though that based on last year, this offseason and what we know of the QB & HC it's fair to put them in the 20s to start the year.

Well that is why PFT has us ranked that low. Sure, it's obviously REALLY low.

But you said yourself, we are expecting great things from the team.

We are expecting

- O-line to be better
-Tannehill to take that next step
-Moreno/Miller to become that RB tandem we need
-Wallace and Tannehill to finally click on the deep ball
-Gibson and Hartline to return nice from injury
- Big Play Clay to prove he is a consisten starting TE and not just a 1 year fluke
- Bones Jones to prove he is worth $30 mil
- Vernon to take that next step
- Finnegan to visit the rejuvenation fountain from Zelda
- LB shuffle to work
- Lazor system to work
- Philbin late season melt down to miss the playoffs.
etc....

At this point, we have more question marks than answers. Yes, all signs, arrows, roads point towards improvement and greatness. But until it shows on the field, we will be a sub par team that EXPECTS to be great.

ok, and it wouldn't have been homer of the bears/cowboys/giants fans to expect their team to be about the same, or slightly better.

and I can live with currently putting the team in the 20's. not 31st. lol

I never said I was expecting great things. just expecting an improvement. a 1 game improvement. And i'm hoping for a playoff birth. Anything more, and it's icing on the cake, anything less, and it would be a huge disappointment .

I think 31 is too low, last year espn had us at 32 and we far exceeded expectations.

Only read a sampling of posts so apologies if this has been posted. For what its worth (not much by me) Athlon's Mag predicts a last place AFC East finish for Dolphins. Hope they choke on their words.

While 31 is a bit of a stretch, it's not too terribly far off based on what we know now, which is very little. This team has WAY too many question marks automatically expect good things.

The o-line was the biggest issue last year. We gained Albert, but lost Pouncey for at least half the season (I'm betting longer). After that, we are relying on rookies and guys who should only be backups. Question marks.

I have faith in Tannehill, but if he fails to improve over last year, we'll be in the market for a new QB, once again. Either way, you can't count on him as a sure bet. Question mark.

Our RBs are a huge question mark. Everybody is touting Miller as if he did anything last year. He didn't. He certainly didn't show me anything that makes me believe we can count on him. As for Moreno, sweet, another injured player brought in, and one with a single good season to his name. Question marks. (No need to mention Thomas. He sucks. It is known.)

Our WRs are easily the best part of our offense in that they are a known quantity for the most part. That known quantity is an average to slightly above average unit. The only real question marks are whether Wallace can live up to his hype and whether they can become more durable. I loved the Landry pick, but I also love that we aren't relying on him as a rookie. He makes me less concerned about durability issues.

TEs are huge question marks outside of Clay, who isn't strictly a TE, and Egnew, who sucks.

I like the potential of Lazor, but reading stuff on here, you'd think they guy has a proven track record of some kind. Question mark.

As for the defense, our DL is good again, though losing Soliai will hurt. Losing Jordan won't hurt, which isn't something you want to hear about the third overall pick that you traded up to get, but that's another topic. Our LBs are mediocre at best, but only because of Misi. The secondary is the biggest question mark on the defense and second only to the offensive line. There is one proven commodity in the entire unit: Grimes. The rest is betting on injury prone players, (essentially) rookies coming off of injuries, and a safety who took a step in the wrong direction last year. This in a year when we get to face Brady twice (obviously), Manning, Rodgers, Rivers, Cutler, and Flacco.

Fields is awesome.

Again, I think 31st is silly (offseason power rankings are ridiculous in general), but not that ridiculous based on what we know, which is very little. Of course, I see very little difference between being the 31st best team and the 20th best team. Neither is likely making the playoffs, so who cares.

all depends on the oline...most complete 5 man makeover starting units usually fail miserably early on...very rare to get from the get go solid play with a complete rebuild

scheme could help hide some things also...really concerned about the oline and to a lesser degree the run d

don't really care where anyone has us ranked at this time...whole camp and preseason to find out what's what

Especially when one of the key components is going to miss half of the year.

oline plays like ass qbs going on ir this year...you can bet on that one...there's no way he can take anywhere near the same kind of contact in 2014 again back to back seasons...all you matt moore lovers will get your wish...

and this team will promptly go no where...
