None of these guys are any good. Those of you who are holding your breath that either of the 3 would have been a savior haven't really been paying attention for the last decade or so. It's the same old song and dance with this team. Hoping to get lucky on some other team's overpriced backup or FA. The only way we're getting out of this mess is via the draft.

Peyton was the lone exception and a similar scenario isn't happening for a while, if ever. Of course, we had to fly to his place. If it wasn't for Marino we would have been shot down in a heartbeat like the Redskins and the Jets.

My perspective:

I think on the basis of his strong 6-3 finish for a 6-10 team....

(over that same span, better than Sanchez's and identical to Ryan's except Ryan, over this stretch beat teams with a .305 winning percentage vs Moore beating teams with a .440 winning percentage and of course Moore was 1 pt short of beating the SB Giants vs how we know Ryan's offense went)

...having the 12th best QBR and 4th best long ball accuracy rating, especially considering what he had to work with, had Moore had been a free agent, there'd have been as much buzz about him if not more than Flynn with his 2 games for an offensive juggernaut. I'd venture to say that some of the same Moore critics here would have been as enthusiastic about him as they were about Flynn, if it were he coming to us from Green Bay.

Once again you point out all the positives and none of the negatives, like fumbles that lost us 3 games, a pedestrian under 200 yards passing per game (not good enough in this league), his horid play at the end of games, and inability to beat even slightly above average teams. He also has below average arm strength and pocket presence. A QBR is great when combined with other positive factors. A QBR with a guy averaging less than 200 yards passing per game and not accounting for a plethora of fumbles, especially in critical moments doesn't mean anything but a 6 and 6 record, 6-7 counting the Chargers game.

Matt Moore - QB - Dolphins
According to the Miami Herald, one of the primary reasons the Dolphins didn't go harder after Matt Flynn was because coach Joe Philbin and GM Jeff Ireland were "not entirely convinced" he would beat out Matt Moore.
We're not sure whether this is post-miss damage control, leaked by the team, or a fact. If Philbin, Flynn's coordinator in Green Bay, was unsold after four seasons coaching Flynn, it would make sense for the Fins to pass. Per the Herald, the Dolphins also weren't willing to pay Flynn "more than double" Moore's $2.5 million salary. They did give 34-year-old David Garrard a $3.35 million base deal with the potential to make $5 million.

we will never know the truth but I suspect damage control. If Philbin didnt think much of Flynn why did he waste time bringing him in when he knew he would not be taking a backup contract. So they seemed quite convinced that Alex Smith would beat him out since they offered 3 years 26 million.

philbin realizes a franchise qb can NOT be made with only having less than 2 seasons of games under your belt, almost no training camps and NO time with the starters [in miamis case]. coming off the bench in those circumstances is IMPOSSABLE to play at a franchise level and they realized like the handfull of us on this board what a MASTERFUL job moore did under those conditions.

i told a lot of people over and over for the last month or two, your going to be suicidal when you see matt moore starting opening day and IF we did sign flynn, he wouldnt beat him out. they didnt even sign him!

think about it. flynn has had the best of everything, full camps with the players and time with the starters for a few years now. knows the coaches system. and they pass on him and keep MOORE instead!!

Lost in this whole QB conundrum is the fact the Matt Moore is only under contract for this season. Ireland in his infinite wisdom hasn't even made it a priority to extend the only QB he has so even if Garrard beats out Moore unless they draft a QB and trade Moore during the season he can simply walk at seasons end and there goes any potential trade.

Maybe. But they brought him in and as stated they were looking to upgrade the QB position. There's no reason not to pay your starting QB 8M. That Seattle contract he signed is ideal because the commitment is so limited. It really is a test run. It's just as likely they bungled the negotiations and he chose the Seahawks.

There's no reason Garrard won't make the final roster. It's not like we have a ton of QB competition. So he's going to at least get that 3.5M. He was in a pro bowl with Vince Young. He's 34, been out of the league, and coming off injury. Don't get your hopes too high.

Your logic is totally flawed. And I said this over and over. Just because they brought Flynn in for a visit and they didn't feel he was a franchise QB this doesn't mean he didn't have value to them and our team.

Your jump in logic is you assumed they thought he was an upgrade over what they have. Obviously they didn't.

There would no need for damage control. Sure the Phins need a franchise QB but if they didn't view Flynn as that, who cares? ESPN says they should've signed him, who are they?

Everyone at ESPN was raving about the "great" move Arizona made last year trading for Kevin Kolb. I never bought into Kolb, I thought he was horrible, but ESPN sure did.

Why did we bring him in? After he had just visited with another interested team, we offer him less than we would David Garrard? What sense does that make? Cle has a need at QB, but they didn't feel Flynn was the right option so they didn't waste everyone's time by pursuing him. If our opinion of him is so low, why did these professionals waste their time? It wasn't to help a brother out with his Sea contract considering the stories of our lowballing got out. Unless completely oblivious to reality why would we even approach him with the idea that we'd sign him to a backup's contract? It seems more likely our FO got beat by Seattle's.

It ain't rocket science dude. To sign him at their price. Flynn may end up being a franchise QB, they simply thought the risk was too high to pay him at that level before he earned it. In short Philbin didn't want to risk his job on Flynn.

Yeah that's what we're being forced to believe and it makes no sense. If that is actually what happened then those are the actions of crazy people. Ireland couldn't realistically have been bargain hunting. This is a QB desperate league. Ireland had to have known there was going to be competition and that would have resulted in needing to make an aggressive offer. Ireland has not proven himself difficult to outmaneuver. Seattle just beat him in connecting with and persuading Flynn.

It makes 100% sense, but your hate for Ireland is blinding you.

do you not know by now the pecking order of the finz? it was layed out, in plain english how things work right after philbin was hired.

IRELAND decides what free agents come in, which ones dont. he hires and fires ALL players and office personel.

PHILBIN coaches the team and over see's his assistants. runs the meetings. he decides the schemes and games plans.

everyone keeps going on and on and on about philbin doing this or not doing that and it isnt even his job!!!!! :crazy:

now, i am sure they talked about flynn and ireland picked his brains. after philbin watched all the tape on moore i am SURE he decided moore [at this point] shows way more as a starter than flynn and they only wanted him as a backup, and to pay him as such.

NO DAMAGE CONTROL. no conspiracy. they wanted him in camp with the team for all the reasons we know about all ready, but, he wasnt wanted as an imediate starter. flynn left for a team that said he COULD be the starter.

please folks, try to remember how the chain of command works in miami and who is responsable for what before flaming off on the wrong people!!!
