Philbin and Ireland were "not entirely convinced" he would beat out Moore (Flynn)

Essentially you agree with Miami's front office that Alex Smith is $6 million a year better as a starting quarterback than Matt Flynn is from here on out? You're about to get the red-a** hung on you again right beside Jeff Ireland....

Big words - scary - why don't ya fill out the page with your cantankerous vocab if it makes you feel better - I bet you weigh 85 lbs

Flynn won national championship at LSU. Beat out number 2 draft pick Brian Brohm for backup to Rodgers. He does not have alot of game experience but his first 2 games were spectacular.
the crappiest of crappy qbs win national titles. also, the best qbs in the nfl today did not win anything significant in college ( manning, brady, rodgers, big ben, brees)look no further than alabama. u think any of their qbs will ever be top prospects? they win on defense, as do most teams in the sec. not saying flynn cant be different, just saying when u allude to his national title, big ****.

as for his first 2 games being spectacular, if u want to say his game vs detroit in the finale was spectacular, ok fine, fair, but the patriot game in 2010 was a solid game, their was nothing spectacular about that game whatsoever.

the jury is out on flynn, will see what happens in seattle. i dont expect much, but that is why they play the game.

does anyone believe that a gm would come out and say yes we tried to replace Matt Moore with alot of people and had no success

Spectacular????? VS NE he threw a crucial pick 6 and led a pathetic 2 minute offense at the end that rivaled that of Donavan McNabb's in the Super bowl vs NE. The pack had a chance to win the game at the end but the 2 minute drill was slow motion.

Honestly I thought Flynn played well under the circumstance, backup QB first start in Foxboro, but not spectacular.

Ya, that Ireland, he's so bad, Smith wanted to go back to the 9'ers. Who are on the verge of going to the Super Bowl. As usual D, you amaze me.

You can continue to spew the conspiracy theories about why the Dolphins brought in Flynn. I'll just stick to common sense. I know, I know, sense is not common...

The man does something so obviously right, and ppl still bitch and moan about it. Dolphin fans...

Folks like you don't realize it, but you're the flag carriers for a group of people that make threads like this one and subscribe to a certain theory that involves anything but common sense...

Read that thread thoroughly and see if you can figure out for yourself who's always a fool's fool and who isn't...

This further's my point. Ireland has no idea what a quarterback is worth for better or worse. I believe Ross stepped in and made Ireland withdraw that ridiculous offer just like he had to last year with Kyle Orton.

Harbaugh was able to turn Alex Smith into a decent game manager and cap his mistakes by eliminating sight adjustments. He could take Matt Moore and get to the NFC Championship Game with the 49ers defense and running game to lean on because Moore is a decent quarterback.
or it furthers my point that Matt Flynn's offer had nothing to do with budgets

Better be careful Teddy, you're gonna lose your "realist" credibility with all of those Pavlovians and Henne Heinie Huggers who are automatically programmed to think that Moore sucks because what he's done for us is automatically tainted vs what he might have done for someone else :idk:

Not to bash Moore but i dont think SF goes to the title game with him because he turns the ball over more than Smith and thats omne reason SF could win with him.
moore has basically averaged a fumble per start in his career along with an interception per game the last three seasons 22 games started 21 int. He started 12 games this year had 9 int . Smith started all 16 games and still had less interceptions and fumbles than Moore by far. 10 combined interceptions and fumbles compared to Moore's 23 combined.
smith is not a great qb but his amount of interceptions and fumbles were pretty damn good last year by any stretch.

Actually, in the 13 games Moore played this year, he had 9 ints, but in the 12 he started he had 8 ints or .75 int/game. He did have a lot of fumbles but when it comes to those not recovered resulting in turnovers, not as many as Bradford or Sanchez, the same as Flacco and just one more than Rivers and Roethlessburger. The SB MVP, Eli himself averaged 1 int per game and had only 2 less fumbles that resulted in turnovers and he made it pretty far. Yes Smith doesn't turn the ball over too much, and that's not only compared to Moore but compared to most, but then again Smith didn't have Marshall dropping 4-7 end zone TD passes or turnstyles named Columbo and Carey letting the visigoths through. So to say Moore wouldn't have gone as far as Smith is pure conjecture if Moore was gifted the weapons Smith had to work with.

Now given that, I have never contended that Moore is the better QB of the two, only, and validly IMO that the difference between Moore and Smith is negligible and certainly doesn't warrant paying Smith 4X as much. :idk:

Matt Moore - QB - Dolphins
According to the Miami Herald, one of the primary reasons the Dolphins didn't go harder after Matt Flynn was because coach Joe Philbin and GM Jeff Ireland were "not entirely convinced" he would beat out Matt Moore.
We're not sure whether this is post-miss damage control, leaked by the team, or a fact. If Philbin, Flynn's coordinator in Green Bay, was unsold after four seasons coaching Flynn, it would make sense for the Fins to pass. Per the Herald, the Dolphins also weren't willing to pay Flynn "more than double" Moore's $2.5 million salary. They did give 34-year-old David Garrard a $3.35 million base deal with the potential to make $5 million.

Ireland's opinion means nothing to me...if Philbin wasn't sold on him I'm good with it.

Well we will never know whose decison it was. I do feel if Philbin thought Flynn wasnt all that why would they bring him in, no need to kick the tires since he worked with him everyday. he also had to know that Flynn was not coming here for less money than Richard friggin Marshall

Why because it doesn't fit into your conspiracy theory? I listed a few reasons why teams bring in FA players, all the time. The fact is Flynn knew what they were offering before he agreed to a trip. There were multiple reports about how the Dolphins were low balling him, days before he agreed to come to Miami for a visit. If you want to blame someone, you can blame Flynn for wasting his own time.

The point you keep jumping over is, the Dolphins, by the amount they offered him, made it clear he had to work for it here. He wasn't going to be handed the starting job. IMO Flynn was probably offended and maybe a little hurt that Philbin felt that way. There's no way Ireland ignored Philbin's opinion of Flynn. And even less of a chance they wouldn't of signed him if they thought him a franchise QB.

But continue to let your hatred for Ireland guide you. The man does something so obviously right, and the haters can't stop hating.
