Philbin has sit down meeting with Matthews

Damian Williams is in the mix for the kick return duties too. I seem to recall that he is extremely high character. We seem to have a lot of good options to fill out this roster. There will be terrific competition for the final 2 spots.

Sorry, not sorry if Mathews can't make this team his number one priority.

I like Matthews as a talent. But for the whole team to be effective it helps a lot if the players are all marching to the beat of the coaching staff.

I think we carry 6 WR's this year, and even if we only carry 5 at least one gets hurt during the season. Wallace, Hartline and Gibson are locks, and I'll be shocked if a 2nd round pick doesn't make it. So there is a slot or two opened for Matthews and it's hi for the taking. If he can't beat out Binns, Thigpen and that tall dude, he isn't good enough.

No team will trade for him, and if we cut him I doubt any team outside the AFC East would even pick him up. There is just too much young cheap talent in this draft to mess around with a project who lacks discipline.

I'm sure New England would pick him up just to get insight on the Lazor offense, but that's his best chance if he fails to win the spot here.

Sent from my phone, so please forgive any typos.

Special team skills with probably decide the last receiver spot. It usually does.

Thanks for posting Nubs. Now that the air is finally cleared it's all on Matthews to prove he belongs.

Binns will take his spot. Matthews is as good as gone. He wasted his opportunity here. He will catch on with another team.

Thigpen shifted to WR from RB. Philbin has sit down with Matthews.

Seems obvious to me Matthews is getting the benefit of the doubt and Thigpen is on notice. Seems Philbin is trying to light a fire under his preferred WR in Matthews.

We'll keep at least 5 WR this year. And I wouldn't be surprised if Daniel Thomas is cut in favor of WR6.

Matthews was pretty good when he was on the field last season. It's a shame his immaturity is stopping him from taking a step forward in his development. He could turn into a solid 2/3 receiver if he got his act together.

Matthews needs to get his head screwed on straight because his job is in jeopardy. He faces a lot of competition in camp.

That's what I'm worried about, I think his head is on straight, this is just who he is.

Of he couldn't figure out shermans playbook in 2 seasons, I have no reason to think he will figure out Lazor's by the time the season starts.

I wondered for awhile why he dropped in the draft, he's really talented, but when the coaches had to keep pulling him off the field last year, I knew why he fell in the draft and why he hadn't got much PT before we were stacked with injuries.

Kid is just not book smart I guess.

I love the physical element that Mathews brings to the position. It's something that we were lacking before. Now we have two receivers in Landry and Mathews that can go up and fight for the ball. I would really like to see us keep both.

And I have a feeling that if we cut Mathews, he'd be a Patriot almost instantly.
