Philbin to speak tomorrow at combine

As I said earlier, he owned up to some things, but others he absolutely deserves crap for. Admitting he knew about some stuff but didn't have time during the season to investigate? that makes him look bad. While I think it's good to take ownership that he's the coach, admitting that he didn't see a lot of things also makes him an easy target. I get what he was trying to say but his lack of public speaking showed up there.

With all due respect, coaches pass over questions like that all the time, and the only reason you think it's such a great question is you hate Joe Philbin.

Yeap. Answering the question would imply guilt too. This wasn't a case of a journalist being inquisitive, it was a journalist trying to get an adverse reaction from Philbin.

While I can actually give Philbin a pass on this latest incident, seeing on how he was not informed by people who should have....he had NO good reason for allowing Incognito on the leadership council after the golf course fiasco...IMO that's a more firable offense than Turner's or O'Neil's actions.

The true answer is that nobody thought there was a problem and Martin made MORE of this than was actually there. However, nobody will ever say that.

Because they aren't allowed to say that. You really need to look at the big picture here.

I don't know why people are mad, or surprised..

What else could the guy have possibly said up there?

There is also still legal implications, so some things he has to say, or not say. Seriously, what did anyone expect him to say up there?

The only impressive aspect of Philbin's presser is that he got out in public and took a few of the questions and arrows before his GM had to face the media this afternoon. Otherwise, it was a bland performance that doesn't inspire confidence that he has a handle on his locker room...or will get one.

You know what just F*ck Joe Philbin becaue regardless of what he says or do it will not be enough. You want him to step out and say what his plan is and where he want to go from here or what he think is right. It's none of your business!!!!!!

His job is to coach football. There is a PR department that handles all of that. He is going to give you general answers just like 31 other NFL head coaches. Not sure what you want or expected to hear. Your kiding yourself if you expected otherwise.

He is not going to give you anything to put more gas on a open flame.

Here is my deal with Joe in regard to this situation:

* Martin made way more of this situation than is actually there. It has gained PC momentum and swept up people along the way.
* Joe is good man would never ever want a player to feel the way Martin did, but because Martin said nothing, who would have known?
* Joe dropped the ball by not having enough "foot soldiers" in the form of captains, "his guys" and low level assistants helping him with the pulse of the locker room. If he thought he had them, they let him down.
* If Joe truly discussed players respecting each other professionally, they obviously did not listen to him, which might be the most alarming thing going fwd.
* This offseason Joe must get "his guys" in the building during free agency.

In regards to the post about players respecting each other, this was addressed in the Wells Report. Philbin talked about it in the preseason, but Richie and others said that Joe was not going to change how they acted.

I'll agree that "his guys" let him down. I've heard your boy Brian Billick go on radio shows, and say that he could never know everything that was going on but he'd rely a lot on the trainers more than anyone because players confined in them. That's another reason why O'Neil was fired. Jim Turner should not have joked like he did, but his issue was more lying to investigators.

Philbin controls the locker room...but he doesn't control them once they walk out the door. These guys are frickin' Alpha's ,and some of that is trash talking includes ragging on players that are making you look bad.
I believe it was more about horrible playing and lazy performance by Martin that caused the verbal bashing.

Because they aren't allowed to say that. You really need to look at the big picture here.

I agree with you on that…which is too bad in this society we live in. Martin kicked and screamed enough to win the argument. He is a bum that destroyed the careers of maybe six people I can think of.

If there was one big mistake Philbin made up there, has to be not taking responsibility for Incognito being put in a leadership position.

I can somewhat get behind that, but it's a catch 22 situation (and I know I gave you **** for saying Joe didn't take responsibility Hayden, so I will apologize there). You can't just make people leaders. Even when Chad Henne was the starter the team saw Chad Pennington as a leader. I listened to an interview with Jeff Darlington last week and he said in talking to Richie Incognito, Richie admitted he was doing all he could to step up as a team leader and Darlington said that you don't want Richie as a locker room leader.

So no matter the reasons for getting rid of the leaders for last year (Dansby for instance I was ready to part ways with) the issue was either guys didn't step up, or certain guys weren't good leaders.

I do believe that if Jake was here, the issue would not have gotten THAT out of hand.

Maybe Joe should bring in some former Packers or character guys from other teams that have played under Coyle and Benton?

I see the bitching and moaning from the media and some fans is already in full force for what Philbin said this morning. No matter what he said people were going to rip him.

He got up in front of the media and addressed them head on, took responsibility and discussed that it won't happen again under his watch. He did the right thing today, but for some that will never be enough.

blah blah blah, blah blah blah.. I knew about the golf thing, BUUUUUUUT the players elected Richie to the leadership council - not meeeeeeeee!

blah blah blah, blah blah blah.. I can/will be a better principle

Philbin did more than I care for him to do. This is not the time to hear from the HC. My 2 cents.
I live in NE and I hear more from Philbin than I do the patriots. Not sure what people want.
Belicheat never speaks. You hear more from Bob Kraft than Bill. And you NEVER hear from the GM.
Thats fine and cool but our fans our coach is out in the front and he gets riped for not speaking to the media enough???? WHAT?
just a shame. I dont want to hear from the guy until pre season and after every game. Other then that go watch soem film or something or make a game plan. Go hide away. Nothing you can say to me that is interesting in the off season.

blah blah blah blah blah.. I expect after Turner & O'Neil fry my bacon by leaking their versions of what happened, I'll be giving y'all a revised version of what I've just said
