Phins sign Naanee to 1yr deal

In my opinion, this may mean we will be drafting one WR and looking to draft a TE vice 2 WRs in this draft. The draft probably did not have sufficient picks to draft 2 WR and a TE and a QB and OL for offensive needs.

It may unfortunately mean that they only take 1 receiver but i'm not so sure they take a TE. They seem to like (as do I) the potential of Clay. Fasano isn't spectacular but he's a solid all around TE. I think the signing of Les Brown may have been their TE pick. I know he's the definition of raw but thats most likely the type they were going to take anyway.

Dolphins signed WR Legedu Naanee, formerly of the Panthers, to a one-year contract.
Signed by Carolina last August after he was allowed to walk by the Chargers, Naanee caught a career-high 44 passes for 467 yards and a touchdown but lost his starting job to Brandon LaFell down the stretch. A far better blocker than receiver, Naanee brings a slot/possession skill set to a team that already has Brian Hartline and Davone Bess. Five months shy of his 29th birthday, Naanee will do little or nothing to remedy one of the league's worst receiver corps, and is off the radar in fantasy football leagues.

Naanee was one of the least effective starting receivers in football last season with Carolina, eventually losing his job to Brandon LaFell. He'd add no more than a veteran, possession-type presence to a poor Miami receiver corps.

We used to be Dallas Cowboys South. Now we are becoming Carolina Panthers South. We just signed Matt Moores WR from his practice squad. LOL

except Naanee only spent one year with Carolina and Moore was never on Carolina's PS. Otherwise, good comparison.

Nannee is one of those guys whose nice to have on the team when you don't have to rely on him. In San Diego he was a nice player for them to have as he could move the chains when he came in and could be a mismatch in the slot. He didn't transition well to a starter last year.

Nowhere did either of us say anything about the draft until I questioned what FA you liked that was brought in. I asked a simple question, you went your own way with it while changing the subject. We all know he wants to build through the draft, that wasn't what we were talking about.

The problem is, morale is at a low...and any news that comes in is about one of these one year player signings that do nothing but help the claim that Ireland cannot bring decent FAs here.

Nublar said something about building thru the draft because u were complaining about the lack of big name free agents. He didn't change the subject, it goes hand in hand...building thru the draft means you get ur core players there then sprinkle in free agents for depth or competition. Im not sayin philbin is against signing a big name free agent but he's got his philosophy and also we don't have much cap space either.

And about the one year deals helping the claim ireland can't bring in free agents, that's a f'n joke...ur acting like he's the first gm to give out a one year contract. They're bringing in players to compete, all teams do this. Do we have to make every signing they make into big deal? I mean this guy probably wont even make the team in august.

He came into the league with some physical tools. It would trouble you that in SD with all those injuries to their WRs he was given a chance in that Rivers offense and did very little. Now he's older and been tossed around the league. It's an alright depth signing with tempered expectations, but if he's seeing the field it's just taking away an opportunity for development for a younger player. There's no reason to criticize this one signing, but if you take this as a part of a whole then throwing these 1 year deals at vet scrubs when our team has as many holes as it does is not how you build a winning football team.

"Ever think Philbin is the one that is telling Ireland the guys he wants?"- quoted from Nublar....this is what I was talking about. Since we are on a thread about a FA, and he made this statement ALONE without any mention of draft, it gives me the impression that he is talking about the FA move so far since the draft has not happened. I was complaining because if this is the guys he is picking from a FA list, it gives cause for concern. Never did I say pick up every big name FA.

I also said that these FA pickups, esp of the one year wait and see variety, do not help knock the claim of Ireland being able to bring in and FA that are of any real worth. Not saying its true, but looking at how things are going, its not like he is proving the claim ridiculous. Funny how you agree Naanne probably won't even be here in August....so Ireland's latest selection in FA won't even make the team come August in a position of desperate need? ok...thanks for proving my piont.

If you don't think were gonna draft at least one receiver your crazy...teams sign players in free agency all the time and cut them before the season I don't see this as a big deal.

Nubs response about building thru the draft has everything to do with free agency, im not sure your getting it. The players being selected in free agency so far all seem to be depth/competition signings...therefore they are going to get starters from the draft. I think nubs (in the quote u provided for me) was merely saying irelands not just going out signing every scrub under the sun and dumping them on philbin, that they're bringing in these players together.

I don't disagree with you that free agency has been boring for miami but philbins got his way of doing things and he's not gonna bring in a big name just to make the fans happy, he seems to believe he's building this team the right way.

This signing is totally inappropriate. It's lewd, lascivious, salacious, outrageous!
Calm down people its a 1 year deal. Draft our future starters this year with plenty of room next year to resign our own guys ie Long, Wake, Bush

bottom line for me is hopefully b/t the draft and the guys we have already in house they show well enough that nanee doesn't make this 53 man roster...or at least eat up a spot in the active 45 on game day...i would like to think we have more going for us at wr than legedoo nanee...we better get some contributors in the draft though...cause this is a pretty poor wr core right now and no real go to guy...

No you are not getting it, he made a statement about Philbin choosing players, we were talking about FA in a recent FA pickup thread.... thats it, end of story. If you want to talk about the draft, I try to discuss it in threads about a draft. I have a lot of issues with us depending on the draft for starters, but thats a different issue.

When I questioned Nubs about who he liked who we picked up, he didn't have anyone he wanted to bring to the table so he said DRAFT. That wasn't what the conversation was about. Now you are telling me what was on his mind? whatever....its not what he said when I commented. Everything you came up with in the past 2 posts you just conjured up on what you think. Now after I provided a quote on where this started, you continue to make up a story of what he meant? So Nubs saying that maybe Philbin is telling guys he WANTS, becomes " I think nubs was merely saying irelands not just going out signing every scrub under the sun and dumping them on philbin, that they're bringing in these players together. "

That's some stretch.

i will say this though...when we were sniffing up peyton mannings craw the plan sure didn't seem to be build thru the draft...it sure looked like compete now to me...otherwise sniffing him makes no sense anyways

of course the plans the draft when you have failed in your pursuits elsewhere...it's a convenient built in answer

I don't think we were in serious contention for Manning IMO

that doesn't matter...had manning decided to come here i guarantee the plan would be win now...not build thru the draft...and if we told manning that the plan was to build thru the draft why even talk to him...waste of time...like he wants to go to a rebuilding team...i sure hope ireland and ross were smart enough to tell peyton you come here and we'll go all in on winning NOW

we even waited around on manning to make up his mind before we made commitments financially in free agency...don't trip...the plan was win now if manning came here...
