Pre-Season trade idea

I wish I could pull that off in Madden... speaking of which I'm getting mine tonight at midnight!!! :rawk:

I'll do it for him... it's called cap... meaning cap space that teams have to spend on players.

I still can't get over soem of these trades that people come up with time to time....

THIS IS NOT MADDEN !!!

first off, I don't play madden so other than hearing people talk a bit about it, I have no idea what that reference means....

secondly, if you'll read post, I think it's #35, I'm hoping that the salary trade of for Booker takes about 90% of Ward's....the rest can "possibly" get balanced with guys like Thompson, who have like a 1 mll cap hit, being traded or cut.

I may not work but I think as far as salary goes....we could actually make enough room...if it was truly needed.

Hey, don't get me wrong, I would love for the trade!

The fact is though even after you made the "cuts" we would be cap strapped... We already have a lot of high paid vets on the team. Unfortunatly it will not happen.

Sorry about the Madden comment, I was wrong.

You never had two top WRs on the same team. You always have 1 awesome WR, his sidekick who can carry his load then a 3rd guy who isn't fast or has size but catches anything near him.

Two top WRs would whine too much, beg too much, complain too much and there's no need to pay both top money.

If we wanted Ward, he'd have to trade Chambers for him.

Pitt fans would burn down the stadium if this trade went down. Not to knock booker, I think he is going to be solid, but he is no Ward. Booker may be only the 3rd best WR we have. They would look foolish making this deal.

It is pretty impressive that the guy goes year in and out on a runbased team and keeps making the probowl. Pitt will give him the money he deserves. Pitt just wants to make a point to their players that no matter who you are, holding out will not pressure us into signing you for more money. I don't think they have a choice though.

it's ok, I just see these Madden comments and don't have a reference point. The way I figure it, based on the one line posts about it that people make and the fact it's a game, is that you can override the game to make any trade you want.

If that's the case, then that wasn't my intention at all. But I've said it quite a bit in this post alone, far to numerous to enumerate :), it was just for fun.

As long as I've been coming to this site I've noticed that some posters (and they are in the minority) simply post to either be negative or post just so they can rail on people using one-line comments that don't have an explaination. Railing on people is fine as long as 1. it's deserved (like when other teams fans come here and post something like "dolphins suck") and 2. you explain it. With only a couple of exceptions, this thread turned out great with fewer "min-slams" than most people get.

Man....that sounds like I'm whining. :D but I really like the way this thread turned out.

So Once Again.....THANK YOU to everyone who contributed constructively to this thread.

there are pointless threads, and then there are threads like these....

just a thought but I'd like to get your impressions.....I'll discuss it below....

..Marty Booker for Hines Ward

now, reasoning....Hines Ward is arguably one of the top 5 WR in the league. He's holding out (and it may be a long one) because he was looking for a contract extension that paid him like he was a top 10 reciever (his contract expires after this season).

Marty Booker is a very good WR who's not currently in the top 10 WR in the league but has been to the probowl and led the NFC in rec. yrds one season. He's signed thru 2008 to a deal at 2.9 mill with no known bonus. This is a good deal (not great)

The reason Pitt does it: While Ward is beloved in the 'Burgh they obivously don't want to pay the guy like a top 10 WR. That's fine, it's their choice. But there is already some PR backlash against the Steeler's for not getting something done. Trading him for another good WR signed to a longterm deal solves 2 problems.

Why Pitt doesn't do it: The town loves the guy. If they don't sign him it looks very bad. Trading him doesn't get them totally out of the jam from a PR perspective but letting him sit out and then walk might look worse.

Why Miami does it: Well, first off, Ward is a better WR. Booker is good, Ward is better. 2nd, Ward is a year or or two younger as well (7 yrs). 3rd, Ward isn't asking for TO type money, it's a workable amount.

Why Miami doesn't do it: They don't want to spend top 10 money on another WR since Chambers already has that type of contract and spending a total of 7-8 mill on 2 wr doesn't make sense to them. Even if they can afford it's just too much money.

This was just an idea. I like Booker and don't really want to trade the guy but in addition to this being an upgrade at the WR spot, Booker has to be included for salary cap purposes. besides, I've always loved the way Ward plays and up until this contract issue he's always seemed to be a great guy that people liked. IF they wanted a guy like Thompson to make it work I'd also through him in.

Thoughts and comments?

p.s. On a crazier side....we do include the draft rights to Ronnie Brown (since the team simply doesn't want to pay him like a #2 overall pick) with Booker for Ward, Troy Polamalu and a draft pick next year. Troy certainly solves any current or future problem as the safety spot. (it also means we can cut Tillman immediately :)) Please don't slamm this part, I'm just throwing it on the end for fun...I do want to know what you think about the Booker for Ward straight up though.
Hines ward is one of the best all around football players because he can block, run, and catch but hes not as good a true receiver as Booker

can you expand on that...like why. I do understand that it's not likely, I'm just interested in knowing why you think it'll never happen.

First off, we are in no way, in need of another WR...we are absolutely stocked on that product...none of them are "proven", due to a lacking QB and a crappy team last year and the year before, not to mention we ran the CRAP out of the ball for the past three years...but we don't need to upgrade at all there. Now if we were trading for Maddox(if he's still there) or another QB that has some gamer experience then I would do it. See if they want Ben straight up for RW...ha ha. Kidding, but again...let me re-iterate...we don't need no stinking WR no matter how good. Too many other holes.

didnt need to say anything more then that, it covers it

Personality and money. I think the dolphins are being clear. They have new motivation. they want people who will work for their money and where money isn't everything. Unless someone is holding out because of poor team chemistry, I wouldn't look for him to sign here. I believe the dolphins are taking a page out of the Pats/Tampa Bay Lightning book. Sign people for a fair salary for both the player and the team. The player plays to be here as well as for the money. If you just want the most money then by all means go elsewhere, there will be plenty of others who want to play here. IMO

How about A.J. feeley for Payton manning? :D i think that trade is just as likely.

I don't think it will happen because the dolphins are balking at paying Ronnie Brown his money and they definitely will not want to pay Hines Ward what he thinks that he is worth. I think we should stand pat for right now and hope the injury bug does not hit us again this year.

I don't believe Pittsburgh would make the deal. Ben struggled later on in the season, and it's not like Staley and Bettis are getting any younger, Ward is the best player from a team that went 15-1 last season, and Booker is the 2nd best WR on a team that went 4-12. Without Ward, Pittsburgh has no WR threat, Randle El is good, but he's not a #1 option. Even if Ward re-signs, Pittsburgh is still the 3rd best team in that division, IMO.

Never happen, unless Rick Spielman was hired as the stillers GM, and I missed it. :)
