Pretend Ricky never retired..........

No, the most chicken way is to ignore the responses that you think you'll have the most trouble refuting. Namely, mine.

Take the name "Ricky" out of the equation and as people who they'll have more sympathy for: a screw-up or a quitter, and you'll have a rather quick end to your hypothetical debate.

Of course, a few days later, you'd come back with another thread and another innovative way of saying those who think Ricky's return could possibly have some value to the team are losers. Talk about  .

Why do you keep trying to deny that he's a damn good back?
If he got suspended for a year I would have been pissed off. We would have sucked and perhaps more blame would be put on him, more than he got last year for retiring. Here's the difference: One year suspension, he comes back to the team (still a force because he's still on the team and has continued working out), we draft... say, quarterback or another area of need, and --because we sucked so bad without him-- the old regime is gone anyway. Our result? A young stud added to our team, new coaching staff, revamped Ricky Williams.
It doesn't matter how he left. Yes, he retired, and it was horrible timing (not to mention a ***** move). What if he had gotten hurt in preseason? What if he got suspended by the league? What if he had to be hospitalized? Whatever the reason, if the guy didn't play last year doesn't mean he is not a good running back.
He's a damn good back and it seriously cannot hurt the team if he comes back this season and (worst case scenario) retires again. We have Ronnie Brown and an all-new mentality, the guy's presence can only strengthen this team.

It's like argueing with a toddler.

Thnx for the insight. I think I will leave this alone now. Arguing with irrational people is an irrational move on my part. Please excuse my hypocracy. bye

If Ricky was suspended, he would have gotten more sympathy and would have received a better response when he returned. We also would be counting the games until he came back. We also would have won a couple of more games after his suspension, leading Wayne to keep Wanny for another year.

What people like you are most pissed about was his reasons at the time (which keep changing every day) for leaving, smoking pot, touring with lenny kravitz, etc. After reading a couple of reponses from you earlier, you seem very hung up on these things.

The only thing I found unforgivable was his timing of retirement. Everything else I looked at it as a person quiting his job b/c his employer sucked and his heart wasnt in it. Is his heart in it now? Not as much as we would like probably, but if he can help and be the force he was and help us win, I am more than happy with him splitting time in the backfield.
Was I happy with his decision? NO. But I understood. If he was suspended for 4 games instead of quitting, it would have only prolonged our pain w/ wanny and fielder

I would not have a problem with Ricky getting a four game suspension. I have more of a problem with the league even testing for that crap. It's not a performance enhancing drug, and it doesn't him any less of a football player to me. I feel bad for Onterrio Smith for the same reason. If the man isn't cheating, leave him alone.

It is a pain reliever, if taken prior to games. Although many pain relievers are accepted.

It would also calm him, but again acceptable medications can be taken instead.

I have to disagree with you because if its legal standing, but your point is well made. Realistically it will be legalized soon enough anyway. Think of the money the governement would make off of it.

it wont be legalized because people can grow it too easy...its all about money

Well first of all .. Ricky was looking at a 4 game suspension not a whole year. Hence is why he is only suspended for 4 games this time. His other smoking that you want to suspend him for a year took place after he was retired so therefore the league can not punish him for it.

I'd have be just as pissed if he'd been suspended for a year for drug use as I was about him walking away. Essentially, it's the same anyway, since that's mainly the reason he left in the first place. Now, if the ticker had said, "Ricky Williams torn ACL, expected to miss 2004 season", I would have still been disappointed, but not at Ricky.

Enigmatic let it go...

You will not get a 100% approval rating. The bottom line is that people still see Ricky as God's gift to the Dolphins. When in reality he has not won anything for us, or with us. He is just an above average RB that gave us a little spunk to our running game.

I do not approve of Ricky's "Medley," which I will call his story, but some are of fans of the man and the "idol" that Dave gave us. I don't like what he did and still doing to my team. His fans only see the athelte and not the man. Maybe that's should be all that we see in sports, and kick all sense of morality and integrity to the side. Right now I will not do that, I guess it's the way I was brought up, so I will support and cheer for the team, but not the player.

Dave gave us the story line that Ricky was the missing piece to Post Season sucess and it backfired on him and us fans of the team...

He was the best RB in 2002, and got us to 9-7...

He got us 1200+ yards in 2003 and got us to 10-6...

Both years we missed the Post Season, but I guess some of us still are listening to Dave saying that he is the missing piece; like we trust Dave's coaching style and decisions...

ricky is not a bad person...just because you have morals it doesn't obligate you to dislike him blindly...

Pretend Enigmatics had stuck around to further defend the premise of this thread.
