Rank Tannehill Among Young QB's?

Not sure if its true or not but on NFL Netowrk Sapp said the only QB to throw more TD passes than Wilson in his first two seasons was Dan Marino.

:hello:

-historic passer rating stats
-got to be first or second in win percentage
-super bowl victory
-100+ rating in the superbowl
-second all time in TD passes over first 2 years
-two for two in going to the playoffs
-got to be first or second in playoff winning percentage
-18-1 home field record (I think, may be 19-0)

Finfaninbuffalo's reaction: :refuse:

He has played on a great team that afforded him the opportunity to excel in limited duty.

Now you are attributing their home record to Wilson? What is next? defensive performance? Kick coverage? FG percentage?

Please name all of the rookie QBs that joined loaded teams and started from day one.

Why do you pretend that it is only me that caveats Wilson's performance when comparing it to other situations. You are in the minority, especially among football people:

“I don’t think Andrew necessarily has a better team around him” than Griffin does, Hasselbeck said. “I think Russell does.”

Former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Antonio Freeman said that Wilson and Luck indeed “have surpassed” Griffin. Freeman said he believes Wilson is aided by his team’s strong defense and powerful running game.

Wilson has a top rated dominant defense and a top half of the league rushing attack.....

Miami can't run...can't pass protect...can't stop the run...and near the bottom in yards allowed.....

Hmm....yeah I get it....it's all Ryan Tannehill's fault!

What the heck has Tanny done to be ranked so high on most of these list? Please take off the homer glasses...

You and your buddy WV are going to be awful lonely while we enjoy the ride on the Tannehill bandwagon.

You will never be accepted as a fan.

Hater.

The notion that Russell Wilson joined a loaded team is laughable. Outright desperation. Anyone who posts such a thing instantly forfeits any credibility that they never had.

Seattle's season win over/under entering the 2012 season was 7 flat. That's right, they were projected to go 7-9. The early juice was actually heavy on the under until the sharp guys hit it late and reversed the juice to 7 with over the favorite.

And now we're being told that the quarterback has no impact on the home won/loss record. I actually had to double and triple take at that claim, despite the often comical level of the source. Yep. He actually posted that theme.

Look, Tannehill has a chance to improve but anyone who places great confidence in a player with his resume and his performance level over the first two years simply doesn't have much of a grasp of probability in general. This is not exactly complicated. You don't need to know much of anything. Tannehill has never been great therefore he's unlikely to become great. I don't know why people are so desperate to look at every play or every comparison when the basics are smack in front of you. Let me guess, we'll scramble for exceptions. That's always clever. Exceptions get you beat. The Dolphins have struggled recently because they have violated every principal in terms of acquiring great players. Seattle was so loaded entering 2012 they signed Matt Flynn to play quarterback. I guess we'd prefer to forget about that. Now that's a violation, handing a big contract to a guy who was a backup in college and a backup in the NFL. They were able to quickly escape that error only because -- perhaps accidentally -- they chose an astute path, taking a guy who was great in college in a value round. Wison has overcome his height so it's a bonanza. So far. I'll add so far to make everybody happy.

During the draft I always try to identify extreme talents who have fallen. Now, I don't want them if they have serious character flaws. But somebody like Seantrel Henderson, nothing he did was outrageous. He was available in the 7th round. I posted in the "Who would you have taken?" thread that Henderson would have been my pick. Instead we took Terrence Fede. Now, in an individual case that might turn out to be correct. But I guarantee that over the big sample you'll come out far ahead taking someone like Henderson, who was an ultra blue chip recruit coming out of high school in Minnesota.

I just want us to make sensible choices. That's all. That's how we operated when I was a kid. Now we butcher the personnel acquisition side and insult fans by claiming the patched venue will be just like a new stadium.

Im still trying to figure out how "he's just along for the ride" or "he's a game manager" or "the team carried him" when he's second all time in TD passes over 2 seasons and he's 8th overall the last two seasons not including playoffs.

Well then the finer points of NFL football must elude you. I have provided numerous examples of opinions that match mine from people who work in and around the NFL. If you don't get it by now, you likely never will.

Andrew Luck
Cam Newton
Russell Wilson
Ryan Tannehill
Sam Bradford
Colin Kaepernick

Thats my top 5 in order.

By all means, point out where I said that the QB has no impact on home record. I merely pointed out that you cannot give him all the credit for the home record. Your approach to arguing is typical of someone who doesn't have much of a case. Rather than debating the facts, you throw up straw man arguments and "defeat" them instead.

How does signing Matt Flynn have anything to do with being Seattle loaded on defense and in the running game? They were clearly trying to fill the biggest hole on the team. If Russell Wilson had replaced a decent QB and the team had improved, you'd have an argument. As it is, you just look silly. Marshawn Lynch was a big part of Seattle's offense last season. Everybody acknowledges that. He had 1200 yards rushing and 12 TDs. Guess what he had in 2011? 1200 yards rushing and 12 TDs. So, apparently the rushing game was in place. The Wilson magic didn't make that better. In 2010 (Carrolls first season), they allowed 407 points. In 2011 it was 315. In 2012 it was 245. Last season it was 231. Clearly Carroll had a plan for the defense or does Wilson get credit for the defense too? Does anyone deny that the Seahawks have the #1 defense? Are you trying to make the case that Wilson is responsible for the defenses performance?

Man dude, you are just schooling these guys! Keep up the good work!

Miami CAN run, those chose to trust a QB they shouldn't have.

Russell Wilson: sacked once every 9.3 pass attempts
Ryan tannehill: sacked once every 10.2 pass attempts

Marshawn Lynch: 4.2 YPC
Miami top 2: 3.9 YPC

Miami's D kept Miami in the playoff race the entire season, they weren't the Seattle D but Miami turned it over more than 2 times in 5 games, that happened once for Seattle. That helps a D.

I am being a bit too sarcastic when talking about Wilson. It is in response to the over the top opinions by roy_miami, j-off-her-doll, and Aswi Dooger. I actually like Wilson as a QB.

He has thrown more that 500 passes in a season only once, in 2010 at NC State. His stats that season were not as good as Ryan Tannehill's 2011 season at A&M. IMO, those are the only seasons that can be fairly compared between the two QBs. For all Dooger's blustering about college performance being a key indicator toward the pros, he fails to acknowledge that when put in similar circumstances, Tannehill outperformed Wilson. I pointed out in another post and he simply ignored it.

Tannehill may never surpass Wilson in the pros. All I'm trying to say is that their circumstances in the pros so far have not been equal and that can reasonably be considered a contributing factor to the disparity in their QB rating and team's records. I'm not sure why that is unreasonable to a Dolphin's fan.

Anyone with a firm grasp on descriptive an inferential statistics doesn't waste their time in Vegas. They are trading on the stock exchanges and forex markets and would laugh at how you endure to be right 51% of the time with your bivariate equations.

tom brady was never great before he was great in the pros...theres exceptions to everything

Brady was in an unusual set of circumstances w/ Drew Henson. He was a lot better than people realized at the time b/c of all the attention and the odd way they handled the Henson stuff.

brady looked like a full on retard at the combine...i was just saying that making a rule about unless you have been great you won't be is while the odds are probably in your favor over the course of time anything but bullet proof

and as such don't carry much merit

b/t tannehills and bradys #s the first 2 years are kinda eerily similar...
