Ray Feinga and Kevin Hobbs signed/Vernon Carey hurting/Will Allen sent to see doctor

hmm what? An ESPN blurb doesn't take away from the fact that Will Allen is currently having a specialist look at his knee. Hobbs is here because of Oglesby being out for the season, but the two guys who came in for tryout yesterday were here for if/when a roster spot opens because of Will Allen.

Still don't understand why the signing of Hobbs has nothing to do with Allen like CK says. Hobbs played slot corner with the Lions and today was given snaps there behind Carroll, is that not the position that Allen plays. Plus the Fins have Ross Weaver & Nate Ness who are two guy on the bottom of the roster that can fill in for Oglesby. I know the Fins are worried that Allen might require surgery and I also know that Hobbs was brought in as insurance for Allen.

Maybe not, but going to see a knee specialist is. Something is obviously wrong.

thats the protocol with this injury. do you want him to go to a cardiologist? they have to make sure the injury is not related to his acl for team liability and allens long term knee health. please stop getting everyone in a panic until we have word from team officials, not guys hanging out at the training camp snack bar.

Correction, you said I never admit when I am incorrect. That's not the same as telling me I'm wrong on this issue. I don't care if someone tells me I'm wrong on an issue. But if you're going to start in with trying to point out what you perceive to be character flaws, well I wouldn't open that door unless you want me to walk through it.

Evan Oglesby just got placed on Injured Reserve. So you got a guy that was #6 or 7 on the depth chart, a special teams guy, gets an ankle injury and is replaced by another #6 or 7 depth chart guy, a special teams player, and you still believe that signing has more to do with Will Allen than the guy that already had a diagnosed injury that landed him on IR?

As I said before, to each his own, but I don't see that.

I am told Allen has not been right all camp, surgery is a big big concern among the team.

Merling got lost before camp even began. After that as I recall there's 4th round pick A.J. Edds, and now #6 or #7 CB Evan Oglesby. Am I missing anyone here?

There's been no word on how long Garner will be out. A bunch of minor dings to depth players like Garner, Dobbins, Spitler, etc...I don't think that's even worth noting. Bigger deal when Vernon Carey goes out, but he's a veteran and veterans sit out camp practices all the time with a hangnail, something like that. Teams are generally pretty smart at not overworking them.

If they lost Will Allen for the year that would be a terrible blow. But thus far he's just having some soreness in his repaired knee and having it checked out by the guy that did the surgery, which doesn't necessarily mean there's anything bad going on there.

Sheets...

So, Edds, Sheets, Merling, Oglesby...Like I said, not that they were starters...or would make the team. Just seems like a lot this year. I agree that the nicks and dings are to be expected though and are normal.

Sheets was the #5 RB on the roster. Oglesby was the #7 CB on the roster. These are not guys that would have made the team. Merling and Edds would have, but Merling wasn't really a training camp injury so the Dolphins can't sit down and say what could we have done to prevent this, etc.

The Dolphins have not suffered much bad luck yet, which is why I reject all of these complaints about how many injuries the Dolphins are suffering. Losing Will Allen would be a blow. As for whether or not the Dolphins TRULY believe that Allen has not been right all camp, you sure could have fooled me with the way everyone from Tony Sparano to Armando Salguero to Mike Berardino, Ben Volin and Omar Kelly all talked about the work he was doing in camp and their noting surprise at how well he was moving, and that's not to mention the players that said something similar.

I just relay the message that is given to me, you could choose to believe or not. It is what I am told.

No I get that, I was just expressing my skepticism about the message itself. Until a few days ago, everyone was pretty unanimously talking about how good Will Allen looked, including Sparano. Armando even went as far as to say multiple times that he thinks Will looks even better in this camp than he did last year.

Jeff Darlington even made a bold prediction that he would start ahead of Smith, but it appears ever since the incident in the bubble he was never right again.

Sticking with the injury theme I hear per folks at ThePhins that one of the hosts suggested that Nate Garner broke his foot.

Garner has had some real bad luck, he broke had surgery during OTAs and now could have a broken foot, ouch.

The thing is that Nublar and Finactic's intuition about Will Allen having serious problems could be right. But CK is right that these guys we're bringing have very little if anything to do with Allen's situation outside of keeping enough corners out there to keep them all fresh. The fact of the matter is if Will Allen has problems, it's not like you can go to the grocery store and pick another one up. Starting caliber corners are quickly moving into QB, defensive end and linebacker world in terms of salary and importance. If Allen is hurt or limited or not himself all season it's not like, "oh, we'll just plug Frank Walker in there. No problem." That's ridiculous, as CK points out.

To me the issue no one's talking about is that Jason Allen has pretty much been moved exclusively to boundary corner, or so he says, and according to many this has really helped his development and helped him thrive at times this training camp (though I liked what I saw from Carroll and Ness more at the scrimmage). If Will Allen is gone, I'm not sure we can count on Jason Allen there. I mean, this isn't a guy with huge mental skills. If you put him somewhere all offseason and training camp, he's not the kind to react well to being moved back inside. At this point the job would pretty much fall to Carroll, and I would be lying if I said I felt even a little comfortable about that right now.
