Re-Grading 2012 Draft.... ireland getting some love??

Not really. If it was something negative about the Dolphins, then BR would be unreliable no matter who the writer was.

BR is unreliable because their articles depend on the writer, they've been better since they **** canned the crowd-sourcing.

Stephen Ross handed Ireland 2 contract extensions. If that isnt "having his back" then what is? He sure didnt extend him because we were winning, thats for sure.

Please provide the link that shows Ireland wanted McCoy to run the offense Ireland wanted. Ireland wanted McCoy because he liked his personality. Because Ireland's opinion carried so much weight with Ross(while Ross simultaneously was plotting to stab him in the back or something?), it was a toss up between Philbin and McCoy. The rumored deciding factor was Philbin was willing to keep Todd Bowles as DC while McCoy wanted to hire his own staff, so Ross went with the guy willing to play ball. Then Bowles left. Because Miami Dolphins.

And now Philbin was GM? Why do you want to keep Ireland when he did nothing at his job? If he wasnt a "real" GM, then why should he hold the title? :sidelol: Fact: Ireland was general manager and signed off on every single move we made. Fact: we didnt win those extra games, we went 7-9 and 8-8. "Woulda coulda shoulda" goes on for every team, all that matters is the results.

Its extremely easy to judge Ireland, check his record and check where his players are. Most are either buried in depth charts to fill out the bottom of rosters or out of the league entirely. If no coach in the entire league can improve the players Jeff Ireland has made investments in, then its on Ireland. End of story.

And i already agreed: we do have problems. Stephen Ross is the main reason why we have problems. He makes poor decisions, like extending Ireland twice and trying to keep him in a demoted role. Also our roster is filled with holes because Ireland was terrible at his job, thats another major problem that scared away potential hires.

And most certainly i'll keep on stumbling around. I have to, because when i do i see you randomly making up points off the top of your head in defense of a unemployed GM that you think sounds good but really isnt. I find people shooting themselves in the foot highly amusing. Keep holding onto something that happened before Clinton was reelected and before Monica Lewinsky became a household name, in the meantime i'll watch first and second year regimes instantly turn their franchises around.

This post indicates you still just can't understand whats going on. Ireland "never" got the chance to really be the Dolphins GM other than sign off the most important decision you can make as a general manager and thats to hire the coach you want to coach your team. Its a fact that never happened during his tenure as the GM. Ireland may have signed off on the decision but that does not mean it was his decision, Thats huge. Thats just the Ireland issue. Take into the account that we had to settle on what appears on the surface a inferior GM in Hickey after NO other GM with a future would touch the Dolphin GM job that indicates the Dolphins franchise is moving backwards. Its not a question of defending Ireland as some sort of great GM its the question of the franchise moving forward with a better GM and I just do not see it at this time. All the fans indicate that they desire a better team and that takes place with moving forward not just making changes without any sense of direction. As far as your opinion and my opinion of what job Ireland did while he was here differs in that Ireland made better decisions in the draft once Parcells left and even in free agency. Ireland learned that its hard to go cheap in free agency and players like Dansby, Marshall, Bush and Ellerbee playing better on other teams proves that. The fact that those players are performing better on other team underscores the point that if Ireland would have had the opportunity to choose his coach then we could measure the job Ireland did not conjecture. Spesh you appear fairly bright and full of information so I will end it with this question. When was the last time the Dolphins had all their first round picks playing as starters in the NFL from 5 consecutive drafts since we have currently with Jake Long, Vonte Davis, Odrick, Pouncy and Ryan T.???

Stumble is the correct description of what the fans keep hoping for and getting. Blaming Ross for Ireland is really the hilarious statement as Ireland was Parcells guy and Ross really never had his back and the proof is in the hiring of Philbin instead of McCoy whom Ireland wanted. Logically Ireland wanted McCoy because the offensive scheme that he runs was similiar in nature personel wise to what we already had on the team. What the first thing Philbin do start churning the roster getting rid of players like Vonte Davis, Reggie Bush, Dansby, Ellerbee, Bess, Carp and Jake Long. Proven players that "probably" would have gotten those 2 extra wins last year plus more importantly we could have used our draft picks differently drafting the best player available instead of reaching for some player to fill a hole.

I have no idea why Ireland preferred McCoy, but it's interesting that McCoy immediately brought an average team to the playoffs while we struggled. Not saying he's a better coach, but I said this in another thread, I think on VIP, that drafting is half of what you do to win, the other half is player management - who you should cut right away because they're a bust, who you should retain and not lose to FA, how you fit the scheme around the players you do have, how you manage the locker room, etc.

So, the Chargers immediately went arrow up, while we crashed and burned. I think the gripe you have about churning the roster is legitimate. Players were dispatched left and right, sometimes for inexplicable reasons. Vonte Davis was a top 5 CB last year last time I checked, and he was let go because he took bathroom breaks. You have to question Philbin's football instincts as well, because he always spoke highly of Jonathan Martin and instead of admitting he was wrong, he moved him from RT to LT and told Incognito to toughen him up. He doubled down. Same thing with Lamar Miller. He was so confident in him, because again he was likely part of the drafting process in bringing him hear, that he fired Reggie Bush. He thought Miller would break out. Well, so far, no.

Which is why it's so hard to judge that draft, which is what this thread is about. Both Tannehill and Miller struggled, and obviously part of the reason was because of scheme, otherwise Mike Sherman would still be here. The O line coach is gone too. A lot of what's going on with our team is the inability to put players in a position to succeed. So we'll see this year, with new coaches what will happen. Success, I will attribute to those new coaches, not Philbin.

HUH?
I agree that Vernon gets an A and Martin gets an F.
Ryan Tannehill gets an A? I don't want to start the RT debates all over again, but there's no way he gets an A at this point ...too inconsistent. I hope he improves and earns that A this season.
Lamar Miller hasn't shown enough that I'm giving him a B. Hell, he's not even a lock to hold onto his starting job at this point.
How Egnew is anything but an F is beyond me. He's very likely to be cut this year since he's shown next to nothing and it sounds like he's having a difficult time learning the new system.
Rishard Matthews was a good value at the spot he was taken, but he's not a starter and likely never will be. If you give an A to a late pick that will never be a starter, what do you give to the late picks that do become starters, and the late picks that excel? Matthews shouldn't be any higher than a B.
We released Kaddu, Randall, and B.J. Cunningham, so I don't understand how those three aren't an F.
