RE-thinking Eugene Monroe & The OL?

The Baltimore Sun suggests free agent Dennis Pitta could argue he's a wide receiver if franchise tagged as a tight end by the Ravens.
Per Pro Football Focus, Pitta ran 79.7 percent of his 2013 pass routes in the slot, the highest percentage in the league. The tight end tag is worth $6.7 million, while the receiver tag is $11.5 million. The two-week window for teams to slap franchise tags begins on Monday. In an ideal world, the Ravens could avoid this potential dispute by signing Pitta long term. A source tells the Sun, however, that the sides "haven't made substantial progress in contract talks."

Here's something else to stoke the fire with.

Good luck pitta with that one...Jimmy graham is trying the same thing...pitta missed most the season...he can try to work that all he wants...he's getting the tight end tag...only way that will change is if the owners and player union agree to something to amend the current CBa...good luck

Charles clay could try the same thing if we tried to tag him also if need be...good luck...unless there wording in the CBa under the definition of a tight end a loophole they are stuck

No choice...had the ravens by the short hairs...plenty if guys get top 5 money as free agents who don't necessarily warrant it...mike wallace for us is not a top 5 wr but he was guaranteed it on the market

Hoops, why is it that Decker is only projected to get a contract around $10m annually this year? I would figure a much more complete receiver like him coming off another big year would get more based on Wallace.

I agree, I think it's stupid. The TE is a TE regardless of where he lines up, the league's evolving and every TE can't just be considered a WR now.

He was gonna be a free agent he was gonna be one of the rare in his prime guys to hit who was actually a high end performer he was guaranteed top 5 money as a would be free agent...

Tag him until he come with reasonable numbers or does a repeat performance. They signed the contract so fast it was like they gave him the first contract he asked for

Teams are doing it to themselves. A TE is a great threat when the put him out wide but when they do that these guys basically are WR's If you wanna pay them TE money play them like TE's

I'm not sure about the decker contract thing although he was shut down in the Super Bowl but I do hear that the patriots desperate to get an outside the numbers boundary win option wr on the field plan to make a strong play at decker if he gets to free agency...

That offense with smurf wrs needs a smart boundary wr with size and rac and deckers that...

The owner promised him top money if they win the Super Bowl...promised him he would do what it took to keep him even before that...tag as I recall was like $20 mil if they used it had to get the cap hit more manageable and they wanted to retain his services more than one year...

The tag option is open all the way to the day free agency opens? That seems odd to me...there's usually not that long a window...

Seems like the retaining teams get a bit too much of an advantage retaining their own time wise before they if need be can last minute tag a guy...seems like the players union would not sign off on that

My mistake. The tag is open until March 3, not the 11th. Past my bedtime. LOL

Thats what the tag is there for though, you tag him for more time to get a contract done. Still looking at a 20Mil cap hit last year but you would be able to see what type of team you could put out with him at 20mil and having to cut boldin due to that hit hurt Flacco.

What day does free agency open? I'm thinking it's probably 2 weeks after the tag designation deadline but with the draft moved back into may I don't know

March 11, and of that I am sure. lol

I've been banging the Monroe drum for over a year now. If we're going to get a FA for our LT position, he's my first choice and was never staying at Jacksonville. If Baltimore lets him walk, we should be knocking on his door. If they sign him to a contract, then Brandon Albert becomes my first choice. Regardless, if Taylor Lewan is available at 19, we definitely need to draft him. If he is not, then I'd be happy with Zack Martin, but in the middle of the first round I want a OT and preferably at LT. Good OG's can be had in other rounds.

I agree on pretty much everything. Im split on Lewan and Martin because Lewan would be great but Martin has that ability to play either Gaurd or Tackle if needed. Seeing as i want a guard and tackle in the first 3 rounds getting Lewan and then with some good guards going in the 2nd or 3rd you do get both.

Do you think Lewan is a good fit in the ZBS? I have read reports that he is not.

Consider DT over OT in the first for a better value?
