Breer: 'I Can't Find Anyone' Who Believes Dolphins Draft Tua Tagovailoa at No. 5

The Miami Dolphins may not draft Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa after all.
"I can't find anyone inside the league who believes Miami is taking Tagovailoa at No. 5—which could mean that GM Chris Grier's put up a tremendous smokescreen," Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated wrote.
Breer noted "there have been rumblings" the Dolphins and Los Angeles Chargers, who have the No. 6 pick, "may pass on the position altogether at those spots and address tackle needs instead."
On the surface, taking potential franchise quarterbacks makes sense for Miami and Los Angeles.
The Dolphins haven't won a playoff game since the 2000 campaign and have largely been afterthoughts in the AFC East while Tom Brady dominated for the New England Patriots. However, Brady is no longer on the Patriots, and there is a vacancy for a new quarterback to emerge as the top option in the division.

As for the Chargers, Philip Rivers joined the Indianapolis Colts after starting every single game for the AFC West team during the last 16 years. If there was ever a time to start over at the position with a new rookie who could occupy the spot for seasons to come, it would be now.
Bleacher Report's Matt Miller projected the Dolphins to select Tagovailoa and the Chargers to take Herbert in his most recent mock draft.
Still, Breer's suggestion that both teams could take offensive tackles is also notable.
Football Outsiders ranked the Dolphins' offensive line as the worst run-blocking unit in the league and 28th-best pass-blocking unit in the league last season. The Chargers were better but have room for improvement at 13th-best in run blocking and ninth-best in pass protection.
There are a number of potential candidates for both teams to select in the top 10, as Miller projected Iowa's Tristan Wirfs, Alabama's Jedrick Wills Louisville's Mekhi Becton, Georgia's Andrew Thomas, Houston's Josh Jones and USC's Austin Jackson in the top 20.

Yes because other teams know what we’re thinking and we certainly would lie to the gold standard for reporters, Albert Breer. Smh

While like nearly everyone, would assume that moving up (actually adding) #3 is for TUA .... BUT, let’s think outside the box here ... just for the heck of it ...

WAS kind of controls the board at #2 ... with the SMALL chance that they pick TUA ...

Let’s say they do pick TUA, it sets MIA up to get Young AND get Okudah at #5 ... with a chance to also get Love later in the 1st (maybe #18) ... then use day 2 on OL ...

It’s a bit crazy ... but possible ... and what a coup that would be for us if WAS were to take TUA ...

Now, back to reality....

I floated a similar possibility yesterday

Young (#3) and Simmons (#5)?

Young and Tua or Young, Simmons and Love?

If we don‘t trade with Detroit I would trade with SF. Get #13 and 31 and you can go tackle at 5 and take Tua or Love at 13. You still have either pick 18 or 26 (whichever does not go to SF in a trade) and can recoup a 2nd lost in the SF trade. Great thing about pick 31 is Miami could let the clock run out, let KC pick, and then reevaluate their board overnight, take trade offers and buy time. Why teams at the end of round 1 and 3 don’t do it more often makes zero sense. Get a tackle this year in a strong class(next year is weak), get a QB, RB, and either an edge rusher or WR if a good one is still on the board.

I like the "keep all 5 picks" and create a franchise defining draft and let the QB fall to you idea....

And I also am on board with go up and get Burrow.

Regardless HOW this plays out... we all agree this draft defines us for the next 10 years.

GET IT RIGHT!

I would take OT at #3 which would create demand for our #5 pick. If we are not sold on Tua trade back to a team that wants a QB in the top 10 and recoup the pick we used to go to 3 - probably a 2nd. Keep moving down and grab picks as long as Tua and Love are on the board and you want one of them. If you don’t want them keep acquiring picks since you are the only team with (3) 1sts. Turn the demand for WR, OT, QB... into extra picks this year and next year. It is possible to trade back 2x in the first and pick up a 1 this year and next year or more.

Okudah better be the last player picked unless Howard gets traded

Surprised we've not heard any confirmation of this or any other trade, bearing in mind the chatter about getting these done before teams went on the clock. Maybe deals are already set up, with agreements in principle, waiting for stuff like, what does Washington do at #2 before finalising. Or maybe the NFL has told teams to wait to create more drama :)
