Report: Philbin almost quit over Sherman situation

The article has no sources, the journalist has no connections to the team, and it appears that this is just speculation. Honestly, we will likely never know what went down between Ross, Philben, and Sherman.

Exactly. We may find out this is true or not some day but when the whole basis of the paragraph in the article is Mando "exposed" it - then I will just wait and see.

Almost only counts with horseshoes and hand grenades

Bleacher Report still has an image problem. In the past few years they have invested a lot f money to try to change those perceptions, but that initial crowdsourced, fan content concept is still sticking with them. They no longer allow articles from just everyday joes. BR hired a bunch of respected journalists to cover the different sports for them now. They are really no different than ESPN or any other media outlet now

All this could have been avoided if Ross had just fired Philbin, hire the GM and let him pick his own HC and go from there.

Ozzy rules!!

I am serious and it is one of many links out there covering Aponte the browns office and what went down. Your a big boy so you can go research my post from 2010 and you will see I was against hiring her and have been against hcontractst as I was against Parcells, Ireland, Sparano, etc. As for you comment that's her job, well actually no it wasn't she over stepped her bounds and Holmgrem showed her the door, mean while Cribbs got his new deal.

Doesn't matter though to the norm you will believe what you want. You will type up some long winded reply that is nothing more then hot air, smoke and mirrors. Then you will stick your fingers in your ears and scream I can't hear you at the top of your lungs.

I don't doubt Joe did really havt to fire Sherman but in the end finally realized what needed to ne done. I also have an issue with the article because his source is Armondo. Who in the entire debacle has been Ireland's mouthpiece and proven to be wrong many times in the past week on what he has written.

Not gonna lie I went and looked and on a quick search I didn't find anything besides the Cribbs issue. An issue which as shown she was correct and not Holmgren in the contract that should have been offered.

$20 million over three years for a wr that had 60+ catches and only 4td's in six years, not smart. Especially when you look at his #'s after the contract. 3 return td's with another 60 catches/4 td's over 2 years before being released before the third and final year of the contract is a pathic ROI.

I'll believe it when it comes out of joe philbins mouth.

**** bleacher report, regardless of what respected journalist wrote it.

what journalist with any self respect, writes for B/R anyway

I'm sorry I don't feel bad for Joe at all.

We are in no position to play favorites because Joe wants his buddy and mentor along for the ride.

Sherman sucks. And if Joe can't see the reasonableness of giving Sherman the boot, off with his head too. It just speaks to his how irresponsible Joe is, if these are Joe's true feelings.

On Aponte, I don't know. But I do know it must be hard being a woman, and a strong woman at that, in a man's game and office environment. I'm not surprised she is being made out as some shrew or b***h because frankly that's a typical male response to strong women who enter any "boys club" in business.

Joe coach the freaking team, hold your coaches accountable, and win the games your supposed to. I have been a supporter, but I think we would have been better if we moved on without him.

I get being loyal but not to the point where it blinds you to the fact that sherman sucked

well it isn't like Philbin has been good either

He has been nothing special

Adam Beasley is reporting that Aponte has not been present during the GM interviews. She had major say during the Philbin coaching search but appears to have been tossed aside for this search.

Let's be honest here. Sherman ran a high school offensive scheme. 80% of the snaps from one formation. Never flip-flop the receivers, no motion. No screen passes. No QB sneaks on 4th and one. Now whether he did that because he's a moron or because his quarterback couldn't handle anything more complex we'll never know. When you run a high school offense in the pros you deserve to be fired.

WRT Philbin he has never called the plays. In his tenure as OC he simply helped to draw up the game plan and practiced the team for the game plan. It is unlikely his play calling would have been any better than Sherman's. And given the game plans that we have seen, it would be hard to know how responsible he was for the game planning in Green Bay.

It the abstract it sucks that Philbin couldn't be loyal to Sherman to the end, but when push come to shove you have to look out for number one. That my friends is survival in a ruthless industry. Don't think for a second that Sherman wouldn't have fired Philbin to keep his job because he would have.

Zzzzzzzz!!!!! How low has Bleacher Report stooped when it starts quoting an Armando report as gospel. Ugh!!!! Enough already with the Aponte conspiracy theories and Philbin was going to quit over the Sherman firing. Unless I hear it directly from someone still in the franchise and not Armando's tarot cards, I'll consider it gossip to sell his articles.

Too bad he didn't quit. The Dolphins might have been able to get Jay Gruden or another potential upgrade. Will be interesting to see how players respond to Philibin this year -- obviously it is make or break for him.
