Root hard for AUBURN tonight

I was/am holding out hope that the reason there has been no decision is Ross wants Malzahn.

We have to make a choice about GM first.

Making an offer to Malzahn now suggests you are keeping Ireland, and that would doom a Malzahn regime from the start.

If you opted to clean house and immediately nail down Malzahn prior to addressing GM then it probably means some in-house promotion a la Gaine

I'd be down with that. Brian Gaine supposedly has a good reputation in league circles, unlike Jeff Ireland. Brian Gaine is also not a total dickbag.

Brian Gaine also has a good relationship with Philbin. However, the pro scouting department has been, if anything, worse than the college scouting department. I'd hardly be encouraged if he was the hire. But I don't think that bringing along Malzahn would necessitate an in house hire. There are plenty of directors of college scouting on there who surely want to be the head man and might very well like Malzahn.

I know Malzahn runs a wicked running attack which is a good thing. How does his passing offense work and how is it suited for 17?

you know that Malzahn is a bloop pass and a blown FG return from having two losses and OUT of BCS bowl contention...would we even be looking at him ??? seriously?

If the guy had been tackled on the return the game would have been tied. They still would have had a chance to win in OT.

In any case, what ifs of this kind are sort of missing the point. Nobody thinks Auburn is as talented as Alabama or even Georgia. Yet Malzahn had them in position so that historic plays like the ones you mention could win the game for them.

If Oklahoma state makes one play in overtime Alabama never plays for one of its national championships. It doesn't make Saban and better or worse of a coach. We could do this all day. Your reasoning is simplistic.

The funny part of all this is Sherman wanted to run an up-tempo offense until he lost Keller and Gibson. Because of those losses and a terrible offensive line he had to can it. This is also why Tanny is go at the 2 minute drill. With that being said I did not see enough good coaching to be happy with this staff, but give them one more year. Go FSU!

Yeah not sure what happened to our plans to run the hurry up, I felt like it would be a staple for us and it was completely abandoned. I don't even thing we ever went to a muddle huddle just to mix things up. Very disappointing.

Not rooting for Auburn. I hope Florida State mangles them by 50 points. The Seminoles have done it the right way, building the defense first and then plugging in a difference maker quarterback. I had to laugh at fellow Canes fans who didn't see it coming. They were still ripping Florida State as a fraud in 2011 and 2012, even though the Seminoles had quietly moved to the top of the nation in yards allowed per play. That is a trump card category, allowing immense margin for error. This is the third consecutive season in which Florida State has allowed only 4 yards per play. They led the nation this season at 3.95, the only team below 4. The only teams near them were Michigan State at 4.04 and Louisville at 4.20. You'll note how those two teams fared in their bowl games. Otherwise it was a weak year defensively in college football, with no other team below 4.50.

Naturally I was ripped on CanesInsight.com a month or so ago, when I posted that theme in the first thread on the championship game. I was initially the only voter for Florida State, There were posts ridiculing me, saying that the person who voted for Florida State should be banned. One guy said he hated that I had a positive reputation. Meanwhile, I reminded them that the same mindset was responsible for a lost Canes national championship in 2000. Florida State was an 11 point favorite over Oklahoma in the BCS title game in the Orange Bowl. But the Canes were GUARANTEED to win the AP poll national title if Florida State won. Somehow a big chunk of brain dead Canes fans didn't care about that. They flooded radio talk shows and Canes message boards with spiteful posts bragging that they were rooting for Oklahoma, then they celebrated the Sooners' win. I'm a bad guy for supporting our conference representative against the monotonous SEC but they were sharp to root against a Canes national title. We would have 6 to the Gators' 3.

I guess I'm a master at not conforming. Here I'm ripped for liking the Jets, on Canes boards they think I should loathe Florida State, and on USC boards they don't understand how I can like Notre Dame, or pay more attention to the Canes than my alma mater.

It all makes sense to me, just like despising cheese on anything other than pizza.

Auburn has a chance, despite Florida State's defense. Malzahn runs the ball 52 times per game, and from all different angles and speeds and formations. Spread teams that run the ball are legitimate, as opposed to Mike Leach's ignorant approach with 18 rushes per game, which was 8 fewer than second to last in the country. Somehow a large percentage of fans don't differentiate between the vastly different types of spread offenses. Chip Kelly ran the ball 53 times per game last season at Oregon and that run based approach transferred comfortably to the NFL. Kelly's successor at Oregon dropped the rushes per game by nearly 10, making them more vulnerable.
