Brandon Fields should have been the team MVP that year, not Matt Moore. Moore won a few games against inferior opponents, but lost to the good teams. He had a .500 record of 6-6, which does not make him a hero. He's a very good back-up for a game or two, but there's a reason why he's still nothing more than a back-up. If the #1 QB goes out for any length of time, Moore is not the guy to lead this team to a playoff spot. I'd prefer developing some young QBs this season, and possibly drafting one next year, in case Tannehill doesn't become "the man". Even if Moore agrees to a pay cut, I'd still want him gone before next season.

Moore's contract numbers are a little bit skewed.
His $5.5 million this year include the $1.5 million signing bonus which have to be paid - no matter what. Now if I compare his actual salary of $4 Million and compare that number with last year's numbers for backups please tell me if Moore is so out of range.
Hasselbeck, Colts: $3.6 Million
Chase Daniels (???), Kansas City: $3.3 Million
Kolb, Bills: $3 Million.
Orton, Cowboys: $3.5 Million
Fitzpatrick, Titans: $3.4 Million
A good backup QB demands $3-4 Million/year plus bonus - easily.
If you think you are a competitor and you are close to jumping into the playoffs the worst you can do is go cheap on the Backup QB. Under $3 million you get the Quinn's of the league.
There were times I didn't understand the hostility towards Moore. The guy has been an outstanding Miami Dolphins player. He knows his spot. He is a great mentor to Tannehill. He knows the system. And when we called upon him in 2011 and 2012 he was there and performed for us and went quietly back to the backup role.
I figured there are two extremes:
a) those who hate Tannehill (for whatever reasons) and bloom when Tannehill is at its worst. So for them any QB not named Tannehill is a great QB
b) those who blindly support Tannehill and find every excuse in the book for him. For them the constant mentioning of Moore is a distraction for their love affair. To say 'without Tannehill we are doomed anyways' is proof of that. They rather go with a substandard backup like Quinn so they can be proven right instead of having a quality backup like Moore who can fill in nicely in the interim but the danger of a QB controversy arising will be hovering over their heads like the sword of damocles. They enjoy the failure of Moore (proof: last year's game thread vs Buffalo). And I do recognize a few names here.
In my world Tannehill is my starter. He has to be. He is a #8 pick. If he is ever replaced because of poor performance we just busted our 2012 draft big time and we wasted 3 years. As a Dolphins fan I root for him. But I also know what the backup QB brings to the table. If Tannehill would go down for a game or two or three I know that Moore is capable of holding this team up until the starter returns. And that's what you are looking for in a backup. Being cheap at this position cannot only spell doom but it guarantees doom.
If I look at the list above and compare base salaries to Moore. I rather pay a million more and have Moore on my team.

Unless someone offers us something ridiculous for Moore, I just can't see the wisdom in getting rid of him. I also don't see the wisdom in keeping three QB. Tannehill and Moore are our QBs and keep the roster spot for another aspiring player. The Texans may make a move and we should listen but anything less than a third is not worth the lack of security.

It's almost pointless man. Booger eater math reigns supreme in here when it comes to Moore. They weren't complaining he was underpaid in the first year and they want to moan about him being overpaid this year, even though the life of the contract was fair market value for a back up of his caliber.

There are no "young QB's" to develop this year as we didn't draft any. The Fields for MVP thing is comical.
Do I like that the Fins are taking a cap hit of $4 mil on Matt More this season instead of releasing him? No.

Team MVP what a joke. He asnt the best player on the 2011 team. Reggie Bush and Brandon Marshall had better seasons.
As for other backup qb's yes there have been plenty that have came on for their teams and played better than Moore did that year.
Matt Casell when Brady got injured, Josh Mccown last year, ToM Brady when Drew Bledsoe got injured. There is actually quite a list.

Well to me it isn't the compensation for Moore, it is more the can Miami do anything with the added cap space and roster spot? You just aren't get a lot for Moore other than cap relief and/or a cheaper backup option.

Btw, I think I'll go with the Dolphins players vote of Moore as their team MVP over yours. You know they actually play for the team ...... they were actually on the field and knew the impact. You know more than they do though right?
MVP is not mutually exclusive with the word "best".

Most don't have an answer to that question. Their response is simply the standard, generic "but we could roll over his cap moniez!" with no explanation any further than that and it's not weighted against the worst case scenario.

Never said I knew more than them. Just because he was a team favorite that year doesn't mean that somehow his voting as MVP is some type of gospel. NFL coaches and players along with fans also voted Brandon MArshall to pro bowl that year is that gospel that he was awesome.
Im glad though that he can put that team MVP trophy up and look at it as he journeys from one teams backup to another for the rest of his career.
