Rumor: Philbin wanted to trade for Albert. Ireland said no

If Philbin wanted him badly enough he would've been here. Just as easily as he got rid of players on the leadership council.

How would Philbin have done that?

As far as the leadership council goes. Reggie Bush was the only one of the three they did not try to retain. Jake Long was offered a contract similar to the one he signed in St Louis and Dansby wasn't released until after he refused to take a pay cut.

I doubt that. Ireland is all about big Tackles. Philbin is all about athleticism. I also think drafting Martin was Philbin's idea since that whole draft reaked of non-Ireland moves.

All signs lead to Philbin having a say in drafts, huh? Theres no evidence whatsoever that Ireland ran drafts with an iron fist (:cough: Jordan)? Philbin clearly had a voice in the war room.

No. I think you may be on to something. Jordan's playing time was due to Philbin wanting to protect one of the draft picks Philbin had a say on. Philbin didn't want to aggravate Jordan's injury. Thats why Jordan played special team kickoffs. Everyone knows kickoff is a sure bet for player safety.

Why dont the irrational posters just come out of the closet? There is certainly more dignity in it.

Irrational poster: "I dislike Joe Philbin and I will say anything regardless of commonsense or logical thought in order to demonstrate what a terrible coach he is."

I could appreciate that. After all, the team did not have a winning record for a second straight year and they choked horribly at the end of the season. We are losers and Philbin is at the helm. But irrational posters putting 2 and 2 together, coming up with -3 and defending it as if were scripture, IMO, are cowards. Man up and state your intention, "We dont care about the facts. We feel we need a new coach. Its that simple." Thats respectable. And who could tell you you are wrong? It is a possibility this team wouldve accomplished more with a different coach even though the signs clearly point that we were severely lacking in other areas (<that was not sarcasm it could be a possibility).

Meshes with the report that Joe told the FO that Martin straight up could not play left tackle. You can choose whether or not to believe it, because at this point people inside the Dolphins are going to pin the blame for everything on Jeff Ireland, but I think it's obvious that there was a huge disconnect between the personnel department and the coaching staff.

LOL...exactly. It's like write two letters. One blaming the person before you and the other your resignation...LOL

Man ... I swear. I really do like you guys. Everyone in here really. But I just don't see where too many people have had to make tough choices based on principle.

All I see are people accepting circumstances as out of their control without having the courage to act.

I would have played the ball boy over his ass if I didn't want him on the team. Let Ireland or Ross or Aponte or whoever fire me. No way I bend over and let someone else decide my fate.

Damn guys.

I don't know your life, but you have spouted adamantly that you are "successful"...and also shown us convincingly that you don't take no crap and will do everything to always get your way. One of the 2 is a lie because they do not work together in the real world. Just because you don't fight for EVERYTHING it doesn't make you weak. Concessions have to be made in life and battles have to be picked carefully. It is literally impossible to be successful (outside of maybe your own definition of the word) when you never make concessions for long term good.

The only people that always have to have their way and fight everyone on every single desire they have are children. Adults that do that are constantly looking for another job.

A strong coach would have gotten that trade. Period.

This must be the worst, absolutely worst statement I have ever read in a forum.

I take it you are a huge Schwarzenegger fan. I mean, I believe any man in his right mind must at least like the guy but you had a poster on a wall once upon a time. "Get daoon! Im taking Alebet to the choppa now!"

Definitely a fan of Star Wars, "This is the tackle you are looking for."

Nah. I gotcha pegged. "Im gonna make you an LT offer you cant refuse." Right?

P.S. By your post I could say a smart GM wouldve made the trade and you would have no rebuttal whatsoever. It is your philosophy I am using.

I think he meant Philbin should have arm wrestled Ireland for a LT.

Not true.

Oh so now reports of how Philbin had a hand in players that were on the leadership council leaving the team?

Sure we can say Long left on his own, clearly he didn't want to be here, and didn't feel like this team was worth playing for... or Philbin.

Widely reported that Philbin didn't like outspoken guys. Now all the outspoken guys are gone.

Sometimes you read what you want. Sometimes its what not said.

I remember watching Hard Knocks and Joe walked into the morning meeting and spoke to the coaches telling them a couple guys had been cut and not to expect them at practice. That early in training camp, I don't see a head coach cutting players without getting insight from positional coaches that someone wasn't cutting it at all. And Joe would not have had to tell his position coaches who not to expect at practice if he had been discussing it already with position coaches. Seemed a very odd scene to me at the time, and in my opinion shows that Philbin had very very little control over his own roster. It was fairly clear that Jeffy had been watching practice and decided to make some changes and told Joe later that night who had to inform the coaching staff who not to expect during positional drills. That scene told me everything I needed to know about Miami's roster since the day the Tuna left. It was ALL Ireland, I don't see fistpump telling Jeffy who to draft/sign or cut. So every single personnel decision the last 4 years IMO are at Jeff's feet.

Doesn't make it okay that the coaches don't have control over what goes on in the locker room, or that the players clearly have a disconnect/lack of respect for the staff, and the team obviously fell flat on their face the last 2 weeks of the season(these are ALL on the coaches). But the roster talent and makeup was all Ireland.

Ireland deserves a lot of blame but this notion that Philbin wasn't involved and has no blame is ridiculous as well. Just like it was ridiculous to blame Parcells but not Ireland for the first two drafts. Then what the hell was Ireland doing? Organizing lunch?

Show me evidence because according to Ireland apologists; Parcels was running drafts while he was here, Sparano had a large say, and Philbin had a large say. Hell, I guess Ireland couldve been having lunch when he fulfilled his half of "say", you know, despite the fact that he was in charge/had final say.

BTW, aint it just dandy that Philbin holds the title of boss/final say for lack of field production hence, he is found guilty but Ireland, whom held the title of boss/having final say for drafting young talent is a mere scapegoat and is not to be held accountable for the majority of his selections not listed in our roster? That is so very convenient.

Its funny, the lack of being able to give credence to 2 opposing thoughts at one time on this forum (thats not really fair because its all forums really). Its the same thing that has made politics only for the rich. You are either a democrat, fighting for democrat agendas, or you are republican fighting for republican agendas. There is no more that which makes sense "for the greater good", for balance, the joining of ideas to meet in the middle solving the actual problem rather than defeating an opposing agenda despite said agenda having valid points.

We have the same thing here. The middle is gone. If you would ask me about my middle, its quite simple. The Miami Dolphins have had ONE MAJOR disease since before Ireland and its the biggest one in football. All others come in a distant 4th place. Our primary ailment- lack of drafting the next great QB. I think Ireland cured that affliction and to me, it makes up for all prior shortcomings.

If we wouldve made the playoffs, I think Ireland wouldve stayed. Do I think he shouldve stayed? I wouldve been on the fence. But I wouldve had one fact to tilt the scale for him, we were in the playoffs.

Well, through misfortune, inadequate coaching, or terrible personnel decisions; we did not make the playoffs. And while I still believe this is a playoff team, Ireland had plenty of red ink on his ledger to justify his dismissal.

We saw how many years of Ireland? And those of you killing Philbin want to sell me that in 2 years we've seen enough?

You are correct, Vertical. Blame falls on all. But one man had significant time and tools to solidify his position beyond a reasonable doubt and the other has not been given such time yet, a lack of tools, to solidify his.
