Rush was right!

So you don't think race had anything do to with McNabb being pushed the way he was by the NFL while McNabb was such an AVG QB?

It's a team game. McNabb's TEAM had just played in two straight conference title games when Limbaugh made that statement, and was the favorite to win the conference that season. In a major eastern market, Philadelphia. Publicity to the QB of a successful team in a glamor market is hardly atypical. Limbaugh couldn't quite figure that out. He defaulted to classification. Shocking.

Anyone that believes white people are victims needs to spend a day in a black person's shoes and shut the hell up.

Thank you. Very little appreciation of that societal truth on this board. Scary and sad.

There are several major litmust tests, IMO. A belief in reverse discrimination as a major problem, or even seriously comparing it to actual discrimination, is very near the top of the list.

I honestly cannot believe that ANYone would accept ANY of this conservative tool's (Blimp Baugh) opinions as fact!

His knowledge of Pro football is equal to or less than that of his :laughat: political B-S which equals, ZILCH,, NOTTA...

D McNabb will never be spoken about in the same light as Marino, Montana, or J Unitas, but considering all the t-c fodder that has been declared starters since Dan retired, I would love to see McNabb in a Phins uniform standing behind center the first game of this season......

Its kind of sad that in our society people cant talk about race, and not be called a racist. People often use the term ignorant to describe racist people, but the thread proves that people who scream racism are often just as much if not more ignorant than those who spew racism. I cant even defend my point of view here without being unfairly labeled by some of the people on this board.
Sad.

Agreed. I understand certain things and faults in both white and black people, but it doesnt make me racist. I have about as many black friends as white.

I just don't see the special treatment of black quarterbacks. Rush is an idiot to even try to defend his older statements. Maybe once in his life he will actually admit to being wrong about something.
he wasn't wrong though.

The media definitely hyped McNabb past his skill level. There were publications like Pro Football Weekly that had him as a top three QB when Rush made his statements which is utterly absurd. Vick is another one that's overrated. The question though is were they overrated because they were black or because they were running QB's (McNabb has since become more of a pocket QB). The media hypes the running QBs even though that style of QB will only win against poor defenses. Rush was correct at the time that McNabb was overhyped though he may have been wrong to the reason why

Not trying to start anything here, but reverse discrimination definitely does exist on some levels.

My sister is a pharmeseutical sales rep in Florida, and she was the #1 salesperson in the COUNTRY for her company.

However, she almost lost her job because of reverse discrimination when she was at no fault whatsoever. None. It was a horrible situation. So, she quit that job and signed with an even better company.

...and like someone else said, talking about this issue makes NO ONE a racist. It's an issue and we are having a discussion. That's all.

To me he was. Sorry but he was way off base with his statement and was rightfully fired for being unknowledgable about football and making racist statements.

McNabb's recent statements were far more racist than anything Rush said which just shows the hypocrisy of the media. Not one media personality came out and called McNabb a racist, Rush on the other hand was denounced for years after even though his comment was directed more at the media than Mcnabb

This is Rush's game. He directed a racist statement at McNabb then framed it around the ole big bad liberal media. Classic Rush tactic.
McNabb never said anything racist, where do u get that nonsense.? For you to claim McNabb was being racist yet Rush was not frankly shows your true colors so to speak.

i dont like limbaugh at all and espn's hiring of him made no sense to me. but if you know him at all, he constantly attacks the media. i dont think he was attacking mcnabb. he saw an average player (in his mind) that was being promoted by the media without warrant=>his opinion

its pretty simple to see that smith proved rush's point. but it happened 3 years later and the only person to recognize it and call smith out on it is rush.

like rush, smith is giving his opinion, so i can't knock that. but its fairly obvious that in smith's case (based on his own words), he will choose to write things that praise the play of black QBs and not offer criticism of their play

McNabb's comments were clearly racist by the definition of the word. He said he wouldn't have been upset if T.O. had used Vick, Culpepper or some other black QB but picking out a white QB (Favre) was over the line?! His whole statement is based on race, therefore racist.

As for Rush, he was attacking the media's bias, he used Mcnabb as an example but his gripe was with the media. He didn't say McNabb was not a great QB BECAUSE he was black, he said he was hyped as a great QB BECAUSE the media were desperate to have a black QB elevated to greatness.

As I said earlier I don't think the media's overhype of McNABB was due to his skin color as much as his style of playing. McNair never got the hype that McNabb got and was ten times better than McNabb. But McnNabb at the time was a running QB like Vick now, and the media loves that style.

Rush was calling the media racist and I'm not sure that in itself makes his statement racist

right. it was an attack on the media. but, of course, the backlash is expected. you bash the media, the bash you ten times harder and thats what people see.
