Rush was right!

McNabb's comments were clearly racist by the definition of the word. He said he wouldn't have been upset if T.O. had used Vick, Culpepper or some other black QB but picking out a white QB (Favre) was over the line?! His whole statement is based on race, therefore racist.

As for Rush, he was attacking the media's bias, he used Mcnabb as an example but his gripe was with the media. He didn't say McNabb was not a great QB BECAUSE he was black, he said he was hyped as a great QB BECAUSE the media were desperate to have a black QB elevated to greatness.

As I said earlier I don't think the media's overhype of McNABB was due to his skin color as much as his style of playing. McNair never got the hype that McNabb got and was ten times better than McNabb. But McnNabb at the time was a running QB like Vick now, and the media loves that style.

Rush was calling the media racist and I'm not sure that in itself makes his statement racist

What was racist about it? Because it had race in it? You mean like when Rush used race in his 'unracist' statement? Please. Youre obviously a Rush fan trying to justify his racist nonsense. He was clearly being racist when he accused the media of overhyping McNabb because he is black. You yourself just said they didnt hype McNair so then they really weren't looking for any ole black Qb to hype were they? McNair isn't 10times better than McNabb, I don't know where u get nonsense like that from. At least try to argue with an ounce of facts here, youre reaching to save your hero Rush. Well guess what? No one but the silly morons that listen to his hate diabtribes masked as a radio show are buying it. Rush is a racist, he got fired justifiably for making racist statement, its over deal with it.

Ive never once listened to rush's show. And quite frankly it wouldnt have mattered who made the comment, Bush, Gore, Kerry, Cheney....So keep making your ignorant blanket statements and pretend you can fight racism with your superhuman message board powers. When in reality, people who try not to allow others to discuss race in a respectful manner are just making the problem worse.

This is important, which is why Rush was fired. He tried to inject race into an issue for selfserving reasons and ESPN fired him for it. ESPN analysts talk about race, minority hiring, etc all the time, they do it respectfully. Rush didnt so he got deservedly fired.

I'm a libertarian not a conservative and have never listened to Rush's show. I don't know why you automatically assume that anyone that views McNabb's comments as more racist than Rush's must instantly be a Rush follower. I can't see into the souls of men but I would assume that most here who see the same aren't Rush followers and are simply seeing the same double standard hypocrisy by the media. Clearly you hate Rush and were simply looking for a reason to call him a racist. I don't remember Tom Jackson getting upset when Rush said that. It was only the next day when the media hype machine declared it to be - gasp - racist, that everyone condemned it. As for McNabb's statements, the media bent over backwards to understand where he was coming from and did everything possible to excuse his blatant racism. If you don't see it, then you don't. Most people see it but that doesn't give you the right of attacking them and fitting them into your neat little stereotypes just because they don't view the world as you do

My thoughts on the subject:

Limbaugh's comments were racist. McNabb is an above average QB who has consistantly been surrounded by mediocre to inferior talent on offense. From James Thrash and Todd Pinkston to the RBs Staley, Westbrook and Buckhalter (sp?) there was never talent on par with McNabb's skill and even still he lead his team to 4 consecutive NFC Title games. I seriously doubt that Brady, Manning or Hassllebeck could have done better with the lack of talent McNabb had to work with. Using a year where he played 9 games injured, was never on the same page with is primary reciever, had absolutely no running game what so ever, and still managed an 85.0 passer rating, as evidence that he was 'overrated' all along? That is pure agenda driven propaganda. And IMO, based in the same racist mindset as the previous statments.

McNabbs comments were foolish and bordering on racism as well. The difference in the comments, IMO is intent. Rush intended his remarks as a critizism of McNabb and the media that supported him. That critizism was based solely on the fact that McNabb is black. McNabbs comments were a pathetic attempt at a pity party. I think McNabb is guilty of doing something that a lot of black people tend to do. He brought up the issue of race as a topic when it was not an actual racist issue. I think there is also a certain level of 'Street Cred' that McNabb was hoping to achieve through his comments. He has been viewed as a sort of 'Uncle Tom' type character in the past, and that image was pushed on him even more so by TO and the NAACP idiot. By feigning irritation at being compaired to a white QB, I think he was trying to regain some ground as a 'suffering black man' and thus win some of his black teammates and fans back over. This, of course comes at the risk of alienating white fans, but it is a calculated risk because many white fans would not know quite how to react to such comments for fear that a negative resonse by them would be interpreted as racist.

In short, both statments were wrong and supporting either reaks of racism. However, McNabb's comments are more 'forgivable' because I don't believe he really meant what he said, but said them out of a sense of pressure to be a 'real black man'. Pressure unfairly brought on him, in large part, by other African Americans.
