Is Vaccaro a FS? Because this makes no sense if not.
No - SS
This would make zero sense, hes a carbon copy of jones and mcdonald
Then I don’t get it. We have two SS’s. We need a free.
Well maybe TJ didn’t complete his community service- I dont get all the faith in TJ
Well I did read that Miami might be concerned about the legality with McDonald, & we need depth at safety regardless. Let's just wait and see first.
Vaccaro is another first-round bust of the Saints. We already took another former first-round bust off their hands. I think we've met our quota.
Like it a hell of a lot more than giving McDonald an absurd extension after 3 OTA snaps. If we really wanted McDonald (god knows why?) he should have played a full season for cheap last year then been offered a minimal extension around now.
Our FO is a joke
He's better suited to play FS than McDonald. More talented all around player who never lived up to his draft status.
Doesn't hurt to sign him considering what we have but New Orleans hung onto him long enough to know what he is.
Keep on mind that we always seem to bring in players that didn't do very good with their last team and our FO think that those players will do better for us
Almost as if they stopped at the hard sketch blueprint for the franchise....
Impending free agent DB Kenny Vaccaro (groin) said he is fully healthy.
Vaccaro underwent core muscle surgery in December after playing with the injury for most of 2017. "I feel better now than before the season started," Vaccaro said. The Saints have reportedly decided to move on from Vaccaro, a decision the safety said "frustrated" him at first, but he is ready to hit the open market. "I'm just going to enjoy the process, and whatever happens, happens." Mar 1 - 9:43 AM
Didn't meet expectations on first team? Coming off injury? Definitely meets the Tannenbaum criteria
Rap Sheet is showing how these leaks work here. Calling him a "top-flight defender" is a nice little touch for Vaccaro's agent.
Look, aside from Jones our S situation sucks but we have so many other issues that need to be sorted in the draft (well, if we are realistic the new gm will probably have to sort them in next years) so I can understand this move.
We need to find a starting FS to replace McDonald, but with so many other needs I don't see us leaving the draft with a quality FS. Vaccaro (if cheap) could be a decent pickup... I really hate the McDonald extension
Please for the love of god no..Miami would then have 3, yes 3, SS all while having nothing at FS.
This time of year you don't know what teams do to try and "smokescreen" the opposing teams about interest in draft prospects.
He's a SS. Could be due diligence, or could be that we are putting McDonald/KV in the "Mark Barron" role. Would go with the theme that we want more athletic LB corps.
Re. what role he could play:
On the other hand:
I not a fan of PFF, but last? well that doesn't sound ideal does it
he did look really good his rookie year with the Saints. The more depth the better at safety, I wouldnt trust TJ just because of his contract.
BTW, how much money under the cap do we have left? I wonder how much he's looking for and can we afford him?
Well again he was hurt- not that totally absolves his play but.. my just be a check in visit before the draft depending how the draft goes.
If you look around the leauge teams are bringing in people to take looks before the draft. Eric r visited Seahawks and left for instance
No worries- if we want him we gurantee dollars and make it work- you know the Mike T approach by now.
Looks like 3.8M with the Suh money coming later
Kenny Vaccaro - DB - Free Agent
Free agent S Kenny Vaccaro is visiting the Dolphins on Thursday.
The safety market has moved at a snail's pace this offseason, and Vaccaro's foray into free agency has been equally quiet. He is a solid player, however, who can help out both in the box and against tight ends. This would be a solid late signing for the Dolphins.
Unless they are cutting McDonald or moving him to LB I do not get this move at all. I am pretty sure he isnt going to sign for the minimum either.
Not a fan he was benched multiple times in New Orleans
Maybe they see him as a backup nickel, or just depth in general. Maybe they see him as an upgrade. Vacarro said he wants to enjoy the process which sounds to me like he wants to hears a few offers. It's probably just a visit.
I think TJ could be moved to lb. If we sign Vaccaro, i think that will be the case
You can never have too many DE's and SS's.
The vast majority of the moves this team has made under this current brain trust (Tannebaum, Grier, Gase) in terms of defensive personnel just make zero sense. Clueless.
Maybe we are trying to run more DB’s and less linebackers? Add in a FS in the draft. We’ve got 4 safeties 2 corners and 1 linebacker defense ? Lol
Isn't that what all NFL teams do?
Wtf. With Eric Reid, a true FS, still out there? This makes no sense. Eric Reid should have been one of our first FA visits.
I don't think Tbum knows the difference between a SS & FS
His cap hit is a mere $2.5 million this year. $6 million next year. He could be cut next offseason with a Post-June 1 designation and the dead hit would be only $952,000 in 2019 and then $1.9 million in 2020. The contract is not bad. It was structured to get out of with little long term pain.
His contract hit would be a mere 0 this year and 0 next year, with a smaller hit last year as well if we hadn't made the absurd decision of extending a second SS who had never played a single snap for us....
Hopefully just a pre-draft look. He's nothing special. Amazing how some of these players maintain the hype they had coming out of college but don't play up to it and continue to find work..
He is coming off a injury concern, not big on that gamble. Plus his experience is at position we have veterans at already. Plus we have salary cap concerns and veterans are expensive. Sounds like 3 strikes your out deal. So I will pass.
