Saints Safety Kenny Vaccaro Visiting

The vast majority of the moves this team has made under this current brain trust (Tannebaum, Grier, Gase) in terms of defensive personnel just make zero sense. Clueless.
 
Maybe we are trying to run more DB’s and less linebackers? Add in a FS in the draft. We’ve got 4 safeties 2 corners and 1 linebacker defense ? Lol
 
I don't think Tbum knows the difference between a SS & FS

His cap hit is a mere $2.5 million this year. $6 million next year. He could be cut next offseason with a Post-June 1 designation and the dead hit would be only $952,000 in 2019 and then $1.9 million in 2020. The contract is not bad. It was structured to get out of with little long term pain.

His contract hit would be a mere 0 this year and 0 next year, with a smaller hit last year as well if we hadn't made the absurd decision of extending a second SS who had never played a single snap for us....
 
Hopefully just a pre-draft look. He's nothing special. Amazing how some of these players maintain the hype they had coming out of college but don't play up to it and continue to find work..
 
He is coming off a injury concern, not big on that gamble. Plus his experience is at position we have veterans at already. Plus we have salary cap concerns and veterans are expensive. Sounds like 3 strikes your out deal. So I will pass.

Well, in fairness, most free agents are given long term contracts without having "played a snap." His situation was a bit different given the suspension. There was ample video evidence of his calibre of play as a starter with the Rams. They extended him once they were satisfied his suspension issues were a thing of the past.

Your focus on FS versus SS is actually what is absurd. Many teams don't pigeon hole traditional positions anymore. More and more teams want versatility in their players, especially at LB and in the secondary. Rarely do teams line up two CBs and a FS and SS for most of the game. Jones is particularly versatile, he can play high or come closer to the line where his tackling is an asset. TJ can play closer to the line if Miami drops to two linebackers, as most teams do now on second and third down packages. $2.5 million this year for a starting calibre player is good value, if they use him right and he plays well enough. It's not like the move 'cost' them from doing something else. They're still got ample cap money that is unspent and will grow on June 1. Fully expect the team to look for a DB in the draft that can be a high cover player. Depth and versatility are always welcome.

Yes, but he wasnt a free agent was he? We already had him under contract for the full season at a low price, that is very different than when you take a risk by offering a free agent (which we are also awful at) a contract. We made a very similar dumb move with Kiko aswell, he got an extension for no reason and now we are also stuck with him for an extra year.

I think our need for a FS and the impact that had on the team is anything but absurd. We should ideally be taking one in the first round in a few weeks, but our linebackers are somehow even worse so that probably wont happen.
