Salguero: Ross may hire football czar

I'd love for Marino to do that.

Bring instant credibility to the team and the fans. Bleeds aqua and orange, I also would have a strange feeling about how RT would somehow get better with him in the building everyday. I doubt Marino would be in the building and not talk to RT about how he's playing.
I doubt Marino has the desire.

Maybe he should start a committee to set up a committee to name a czar...

Ross calls it a czar 31 other teams calls it a gm! really

All hail Czar Zach Thomas!!!!

I am hoping they hire Zack as a scout. I read he would love to be one and is looking for a team to give him a chance. I think it would be worth a shot based on how he prepared as a LB.

Mercury Morris?

I like it! Mercury could be like, " I will give you our first round pick, three kilos of coke, and unlimited use of our whores for the next year in exchange for the first pick in the draft!"

Or anything else a position like that requires.

these names for Football Czar are crazy. We need more than a name. We need coaches that command respect...for their ability, effort and knowledge. Sounds like more "management in disarray" and a "lame duck coach" in the making.

Hows that?

Really?

He was given a Presidency position years back and I believe just a few days later he quit on the franchise and us the fans. Why would anyone want someone like that to run a NFL franchise?

Marino has always been about Marino, have any of us seen anything to change that reality?

You want a serous name, a name everyone would respect as a football guy and a standup human being? Tony Dungy.

Marino may be an icon to the city of Miami but I honestly don't see him as the leader of a franchise. John Elway was a Stanford grad; high intelligence. Marino doesn't seem to me to be very insightful when speaking on CBS. I may be wrong, I just don't see him as being anything more than a figurehead who would get the position because he's loved by the city and the franchise.

I'll say it for you: Dan Marino is a freaking doofus. He's just a good QB and that's it.

He already had his shot and is nowhere near being in the same league as Elway.

if you hire a football czar, you're basically telling the world that your organization is full of babies who need a nanny. Which could be very well be true, but it looks bad and won't fix anything.

i LOVE dan marino, the football player.

as far as dan marino the person, the decision maker, i dont think much of him.

bad, bad financial moves over the last several years with the nail in the coffin, impulse buy investment that wiped out the rest of his fortune.

his infidelities, long a rumour, finally were proven true when his latest conquest came up pregnant and the lid was blown off his reputation and poor clare and dannys 22 children left clinging to the aftermath and humiliation.

i want my owner, my czar, my gm, coach, senator, president, rabi, preacher, police chief to be above those kind of reproaches. people who live by the moment and for themselves crash and burn and ALWAYS hurt a LOT of folks along the way. their not respected. dan marino, although the greatest dolphin and and qb to EVER play, has not the character i want making the finz decisions.

its called RESPECT folks. don shula has it. tony dungy has it. tom landry, bum philips and dick vermeil had it [vermeil being my choice for czar/gm].

dan marino does not. yes, he looks great on tv. yuks it up and knee slaps with the fellas on tv. but, see any pics of danny and ANYONE outside of a golf game hanging with him on any kind long term basis?

nope. its been long said that marino is an azz, an egotistical anus. it makes me sad. but the people around him, those behind the scenes see so much more than we do watching him do a tv show and reading his scripts with that GQ smile and charisma. i know 2 guys who had no bias towards dan who had met him at different times and both said that you cant stand in the same room with him his ego and attitude are off the charts. and i have seen MANY, MANY fans over the years on boards say the same thing.

much of danny's luster and records have faded away. most of the guys on this board never saw him play, in person or on tv. he is a hero from many moons ago from a team that isnt gathering new, younger fans due to losing and public blundering by owners, coaches and law suit oriented players. the things that would make danny usefull for the czar/gm job are coveted by only us old grey beards who remember his glory years, when don shula and a model franchise that won FAR MORE than they lost. these new kids, coaches and players alike are not all giggly about a past tense qb who never won "the big one".

this team needs leadership and RESPECT in the worse way, top to bottom. danny comes up a bit short for me.

and really? we have seen all the czar in name only stuff and power gutted no takers. no one with any brains or respect for themselves is coming in to a situation that features a laughing stock GM and a coach [i am pro philbin] who is forced on them is going to take or want this czar job.

and i dont care what the credentials are. we are a team that flat out stinks from the offices to the field. the last thing ross needs to do is throw the team and fans a bunch of ex didnt get it done's from our most HATED rival. it was bad enough being "south florida cowboys" but GANG GREEN MIAMI? cant stomach that. would be a further PR embarrassment we just dont need.

nothing on the horizon that i am hearing from the reports excites me. its all just protecting our biggest problems and hiding the garbage under very small carpet. but, what do expect from a new york kinda guy whos football friends and confidents [outside of carl peterson] are all ex new york jets!!

the SHERMAN FIRING? somehow that mess is winding up in PHILBINS lap. philbin had NOTHING to do with the sherman/tanny package deal. jeff ireland ABSOLUTELY HAD to select a qb in that draft, whatever one was left when we chose. and that was tanny. do i think philbin fought ireland tooth and nail over his mentor and friend, no. but again, JEFF IRELAND runs the draft and the pics and personel in miami and he sure wasnt having a 1st year head coach make a choice his job supposedly rode on.

EVERYONE is on the MIKE McCOY band wagon now. forget he got a team thats has an all world, perenial all pro qb a hall of fame TE and great offensive line AND a gm who can draft. every fan almost to the letter after philbins first year agreed we needed a lot more talent wise to get where we all want to go. even though ireland brought in a couple of good players, he handed philbin basically the same team he had his first year with NO help from the draft. his prize [who i support and say is the building block of this offense] mike wallace was handed a qb who cant CONSISTENTLY hit a player over 20 yds and NEVER hits them in stride. but, wallace is to blame, even though with his old all pro qb, he had MASS BIG TIME DOWN FIELD CATCHES and TOUCH DOWNS!!

philbin got a RAW deal, a bad hand dealt by jeff ireland. lets see MIKE McCOY take that squad to the playoffs!!!

until IRELAND is gone and a REAL gm who can draft and is respected is hired, were done. fans need to start blaming the one who deserves it. all i hear is philbin doesnt yell or scream at players. well, neither does billichek. landry didnt do it. mike mccarthy doesnt do it in green bay. tony dungy didnt. and many others like those men i mentioned, ones who were or are nfl winners were not locker room yellers. our problem? not the coach. the GM and the lack of REAL talent on the team [irelands job] are ther problem!!
