Sam Young Cut

Lol why did it take an injury to tunsil to see how bad this guy is? Surely it showed up in practice?
Young's best use was as a "TE" in the elephant run package, where he could run block. When Ajayi was here, he was very effective in that look. And, when he has filled in at LT in the past, he wasn't so bad. Remember, only about 20 teams in the NFL really have a LT, so the rest field varying levels of hot garbage.

Young has earned a roster spot in the past … but this year he has regressed. With Sterup supplying much the same thing, he was kept. We did need another DT, so it may have been a matter of Young was the current low man on the totem pole.

Regardless, his performance this year merited being cut. But, seeing how fast Ereck Flowers was picked up by Jacksonville should underline just how hard it is to find LT's, because Flowers was terrible at LT and didn't work this year at RT for the Giants.

Lots of teams have OL woes. Given the popularity of the ZBS these days, finding guys 6'6 and 320 pounds who are agile, powerful, explosive, with long arms is a real challenge. Finding ones who can also play the position well is nearly impossible these days. Don't be surprised if Sam Young ends up back on our roster before the end of the season.

Things should settle down by Sunday. We should be ready to give a strong performance at home. Very glad that Tunsil is playing! Does that mean more of Ted Larsen at LG?

So 2 out of 3 seasons Gase has had marginal backup lineman, that everybody and their brother knew were marginal, in which he watched practice every day but needed to see them suck in a game to move on. Interesting, seems to me he needs to be more ahead of these things. If they suck in practice they will probably suck in games.

Gase continues to weed out. It's his only option at this time. Pluck one bad and replace them. You can't have wholesale changes going into game 6. That was for the off season.

Wait, is this the start of Young gets cut today and he's back with the team tomorrow and he gets cut the next day just to be back the day after?

Sam Young played well at RT over the last 2 season's. But unfortunately didn't do so well at LT when pressed into emergency duty last week. I felt it was a mistake risking the loss of Eric Smith, who Miami tried to resign to the PS after cutting him. But unfortunately for Miami, Smith rejected Miami in favor of, playing for the Patriots. I understand why Smith would do what he did. But not sure why they felt Young was the better option, when Sterup, already showed he's the better swing tackle. Lets hope Miami can right the ship and perhaps sign Smith off of the Patriots PS to Miami's active roster. He's young and talented just not experienced.

Definitely the right decision but never nice to see a man lose his job. By all accounts he’s a decent guy, never hid and always stepped up when needed, often in difficult circumstances, without any fuss or drama and always at vets minimum.

Ultimately he’s just not good enough, but sad for him it ended like it did after a fairly decent showing last year when he filled in at RT.
Adios Mr Sam.

Always reminded me of Master Blaster from Mad Max...
