Thanks for the link. That was, however, just an editorial commentary by Miller. I've seen several of those by Edwin Pope through the years where they offer what they think might be going through the head coach's mind and offer their opinion on what should happen - and the team often does not follow that path.

Then, they come back with an article and a few quotes as to the rationale why the team went a different direction.

While I hope the 9ers go with Rodgers and sign him on Friday night or Sat. a.m. (it would really give us a lot of options - Smith; Edwards; trade with TB; trade with MN; etc); I'm still not really sold on it happening.

Call me a pessimist ...

I wonder if Ira Miller might be part of the smokescreen?

No, but like me he has felt Rodgers was really the Niners guy all along, in todays article he writes about the same possibility of the Niners trading down and still getting Rodgers.

Well, no matter what you've seen in the past it doesn't change the fact that Ira Miller is a lot closer to this whole situation than the others writing about it, even closer than Boomer  .

His educated guess is as good or better than anybody elses.

Nobody is going to trade to the number one spot.

They'll never convince anyone that Braylon Edwards is the man they want.

I have a prediction for you....if they follow what you said about Edwards, they'll do it by saying that he is closest(of the three)to agreeing to the terms of a contract.

That's a sure sign that it's a bluff.

As long as we get Ronnie Brown, the Niners can take Queen Mary

nah... Smith will go #2 or #3, I think we'll trade down.

If we are at #2, then I agree that Smith will probably be the choice.

Ah, but would they follow thru and select him? WR is certainly a need for this team (Niners) also. It would not be far fetched.

No way...everybody and their mother knows that Rodgers or Smith is going to San Fran. They haven't exactly kept it a secret. If they try to switch up now, they'd have to draft him with the intention of trading him immediately.

That would be one hell of a bold move, considering that if Minny or somebody doesn't bite...they're going to miss out on Rodgers, Smith, AND Campbell.

I agree, I think SF wants Rodgers...saw the publicity that Smith was getting so they figured "Hey, lets pretend we are interested, sucker teams into letting us trade down a few spots. They all want Smith or Edwards and Rodgers should still fall to us in the 5 to 10 pick spots because no one else wants QB!!

Nice try SF.

Lets see...first the 49ers wanted Rodgers....now they want Smith...but Smith wants too much money....the 49ers select Rodgers....what an idea....WOW. Come on Blue...the 49ers are playing off each QB...I don't need some hack writer to tell me that...who do they really want....We'll see Saturday...but we'll know before that. And then after all the smoke clears...Saban will do what he always said he'll do....trade down, acquire more picks and select players HE feels safe with...not pie in the sky players.
Here's another hint who they won't be..." we feel that Campbell is every bit as good as Smith or Rodgers". I trust Gibb's judgement far more than some wanna be draft expert....don't you?

Remember what Nolan said of Rodgers, "Hes as polished as Ive ever seen."

Ever since the combines, Nolan has praised Rodgers more so than Smith. He wants a QB that can start the 2005 season, and that is Rodgers.

Smith is Linehan and Saban's guy.

I think there is a possibility that they will trade with Minnesota, thinking they can pick up Rodgers at #7. I hope Tampa snatches him up because Nolan is really pissing me off lately.

I'm with you BlueFin. I've been saying all along that they're taking Rodgers. However, I believe there's about an 80% chance we're trading down.

In fact, I'll break it down this way:
50% - trade down with Minny
20% - trade down with Tampa
20% - stick at #2
10% - trade with someone else
