San Francisco Chronicle: Ira Miller.."The pick here is Rodgers"

I'm with you BlueFin. I've been saying all along that they're taking Rodgers. However, I believe there's about an 80% chance we're trading down.

In fact, I'll break it down this way:
50% - trade down with Minny
20% - trade down with Tampa
20% - stick at #2
10% - trade with someone else

I'd say unless the Vikes are all taken away by Aliens...or they fall asleep again when their pick comes around...the chance they trade with the Dolphins to select Edwards is 99.9%.

Well then the chance they trade with Cleveland is 100 percent.

Ira Miller is as close to the situation as anybody writing about it, he thinks Rodgers will still be the Niners man when the dust settles. He doesn't think any of these tradeups will actually occur.

Let me add, I stand by my prediction that Alex Smith will be a Miami Dolphin Saturday afternoon.
We need to trade down EXPONENTIALLY more than we need the services of Mr. Smith. He is not that much better than the QBs that will be available in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. That is the real bottom line here. Saban understands this and will make the necessary compromises to get the out of the 2nd pick. Hell we don't even need to be in the top ten to get the kind of players we really need out of this years draft.

What? Lets try again..Dolphins pick before the Browns....Edwards would be available when the Dolphins select....if the Vikes want Edwards...as we all must believe by now....they have to trade with the Dolphins....or the Dolphins trade him to another team...or just select him....again....Dolphins can't lose.

Disagree, Smith is far more intelligent than any of those QB's, an intangible you cannot overrate.

What makes you think that the Dolphins will pick him or even want teams to think they will pick him..?

If SF picks Rodgers, than Miami will pick Smith. Then Minnesota will trade with Cleveland to get Edwards. It would make more sense to trade with Cleveland, since they would have to give up less.

Am I the only one who is dying for saturday to get here? The arguing over what may happen is starting to grate on me I think...

Why would the Vikes call Saban up to look at a trade...if not for Edwards...geez.
Take this to the bank....the only way Cleveland gets Edwards...is if they trade up 1 or 2 spots...Edwards will be gone...otherwise.

The key to alll the first round trading is what SF does with the pick. If they take Smith, they could still deal him to TB prior to the #5 pick (much like SD-NYG last year). If Smith is off the board, then we draft Edwards - keep him or trade him to Minny for the #7 pick, plus others. If SF takes Rodgers, then we go through the same deal with TB for the #5 pick and Smith. If SF is smart, they do the deal with TB and still pickup Rodgers at #5, plus others. We end up with either Edwards or the #7 pick plus others. If Minnesota does nothing, there's a strong chance that neither one of the WR's they have been coveting (allegedly) is around. It's very convoluted, but we could easily make out like bandits. Get one of the top 4 offensive players available and two or three extra picks.

I guess you forgot that they also contacted Cleveland at the same time they contacted Miami and SF. Miami does not want Edwards. He will be available at the 3rd spot.

50% - trade down with Minny

I break it down a little different:

60% - Draft Alex Smith
20% - Draft Braylon Edwards or Aaron Rodgers
20% - Trade Down with Minny

I see very little chance of a trade with Tampa, they are a team with far to many holes to give up the type of compensation it would require to move up, a lot of people don't realize that Gruden is just about in a hot seat in Tampa after two straight losing seasons and some of things that have transpired here, drafting a rookie quarterback and giving up the draft picks it would require to make it happen is not possible for them. They are in worse shape than we are.

A lot of people seem to think Minnesota trading up is a given, I don't see it that way, the Minnesota papers aren't even really discussing it, they are talking about possibly drafting a runningback. I think Minnesota would love to get Edwards, but I don't think they will sacrifice #7 & #18 to do it. They need a lot of help too, they can draft Troy Williamson and still get another great player at #18. There is a chance they could package some other type of offer that might interest Saban. such as #7 and their first rounder next year etc etc....and that is why I give it a 20% chance.

I have a personal opinion that Alex Smith secretly, or not secretly prefers Miami to San Fran and that it has a lot to with their big demands from San Fran. I think he sees San Fran as a bad situation with a cheap owner, I think his real desire is too join Linehan and Saban in Miami.

Miami doesn't want Edwards....did you see that in your crystall ball? Like you would be so unhappy if Saban picked him. Better be prepared just in case...but your lucky...it appears the Vikes want him more.

Blue...you may be right...maybe the Dolphins select Smith....pay him 5-6 mil to sit...but I don't see Saban doing that...not when he can select players who will start from day one. The Dolphins need playmakers...not bench sitters...and if you look at the games we lost last year...we were in most of them...fix the O-line....get another receiver who can catch and run afterwards...and pick up a running back that can make it interesting...is all the Dolphins really need. Thats the way I see it...and I believe thats the way Saban see's it too. Saban will draft a QB...but not early. In any event...it's great to be Dolphin fan....we have a future once again! GO PHINS!
