Saturday evening Dolphin chatter

i wasn't aware Dallas had a shoulder issue last year. Did we draft ANYONE who was not injured ?

Anyways if he steps up it would be great. If not we have Turner so lets just see how it plays out.

Same one Dion Jordan had...

Yes, the kicker and Don Jones...

I am curious if Taylor and Thomas would have been around for us if healthy? Might have been steals because of the injury. I am not sure on that though.

I really did like the draft last year....by the middle of the season I should know how it actually was

Oh look a video from three years ago....yeah no player ever gets better....they pretty much stay the same from the time they are 19 until they retire....

To both of you, who are pretty clueless anyway- that film was picked because it preceded by a safe margin Thomas's shoulder issues and it was against a top tier opponent. If either one of you can read decently well, I said that I've looked at quite a bit of Thomas film and never liked what I saw of any of it. Pick out some GOOD film of Thomas and post it, I'd like to see if some exists. 2012, 2011, take your pick.

You must be a hell of a scout to know he is a back up after 3 snaps total and 2 OTAs this year. He was a 3rd round pick for a reason, how about we just chill with some of these rookies and 2nd year players that were injured until the end of training camp at least.

"He was a third round pick for a reason..." Translation- you know squat and rely on others for your opinions. Thanks for clarifying and confirming my suspicions.

The point I made was that there is this thing called player development....

So as far as reading....doesn't seem like one of your stronger attributes...

My dual advanced degrees would beg to differ. Other that, imo Thomas didn't show development in college or in his first year with us, injury or not. He showed an ability to play OG and OT in SEC football at a marginal level, imo. Both you and the other poster seem to know little besides the base level thought of "he was a 3rd round pick, he must be pretty good", and that level of depth makes this conversation a waste of time.

I will be the first to admit I am no expert on player development or proper offensive line technique. The point I am making is for people like you on these boards to say that you know after a total of 3 offensive plays in the pro's and 2 OTA's that you know he is just a backup, you don't know anymore than I do and if you did you should be a paid scout. This was a man who was injured during training camp and off-season last year and admitted he struggled mentally. Give his body time to heal, a proper off-season workout program, and a full year of studying the book and that all leads to an improved player.

No one knew before last year that Charles Clay would become the player he did, because he developed. I absolutely hate people on here who claim to know everything about everything, I will trust in the coaches and trainers and without my decision on Dallas until I have seen a proper sample size.

I may know squat, but I fully admit it. You seem to struggle with that part.....all I care about is either Thomas or Turner becoming an effective guard from day 1 this year. Just let the process play out, because not all of us are "experts" like you.

Put away your bs, I'm no expert and never claimed to be, nor do I "know" whether or not Thomas will be a back up, starter or even make the team. Everyone knows that these are all just opinions, even someone like you you who is trying to make a point using the fallacy that I'm claiming to "know" how good Thomas will be, that and your twisted sense of logic. In other words, you're making sh** up.

As to Thomas, I'm basing my OPINION on the tape that I've watched- every single time I've come away unimpressed and I see a low ceiling there, he's just not that good imo. My advice to you is to watch a decent amount of film so you can actually form a real opinion, and that way the next time you open your pie hole and spout off a criticism of my actual opinions maybe you'll have a leg to stand on.

The link above is one of his scouting reports prior to the draft. I remember last year we tried to play him as a tackle, but with his short arms it wasn' t an ideal position for him. It states his ideal position is LG, which he is now being played at this year. It also says that he is a secure 2nd round pick and could even slip into the 1st round.

I am not saying this report is right or that you are wrong, just providing information that supports an alternate view point other than your own. Throwing insults in every argument is juvenile, I am just saying that he appears to have a high ceiling and I am curious to see what happens now that he is at his ideal position.

There isn't enough film to really form an opinion. Your footage you posted is about as new as we can get and it is just to old to truly evaluate. Your talking out of your ass just as much as you claim I am. I am basing my comments off of real experts that I have read and reviewed. I don't know why you are taking this so personally, we simply disagree on the player. I compare the skill set of Dallas Thomas to that of Zach Martin. Both were effective tackles at the college level and both will be guards in the pros due to short arms. The difference is Zach martin was picked in the 1st round and we got Dallas in the 3rd.

Never once did I mention him as a 3rd round pick....my argument was simply on player development nothing more. I never once mentioned his draft status to what he did in the past, simply that it is possible that he has improved since 2011. Again you are attributing a simple one liner about your post as to being ignorant about football...

Dude, just watch the tape and stop embarrassing yourself by relying on Walter Football for player analysis. At least it was Charlie Campbell writing the report, who's better than Walter, but as an NFL comparison Ben Grubbs? Yikes. What orifice Campbell pulled that one out of I can only guess, but imo Thomas isn't even close to the player that Grubbs is. I just do not like, at all, what I've seen of Dallas Thomas on tape at Tennessee and his fist year was a washout with Miami, bottom line. I'd put more stock into the shoulder injury having a serious negative effect on his rookie year if he showed more power at UT and I didn't see it. Some of you act as if I want Thomas to fail- of course not. I just don't like what I've seen of Dallas Thomas as a player, ever, and that's my opinion- you can take it or leave it, doesn't matter to me.

If anyone would have suggested Dallas would be our starting left guard at the end of last year most on here including myself would have laughingly disagreed but as was pointed out players do develop.
Bottom line he has a long way to go but there are encouraging signs so I would not totally discount it.

So in other words you have no argument besides vague generalities... Again, I didn't like the Thomas 2011 or 2012 film, and there really isn't any 2013 film of note. When you have an actual, at least semi-specific opinion, let me know. Other than that this discussion is a waste of time.
