Schefter: Fins zeroing in on Kubiak, Shanhan, or McAdoo for OC

If we Kubiak that means he is calling the plays. If we get McAdoo that means Philbin will have more say in the playcalling. Which would be better? IMO if Philbin wants to win next year and keep his job he will hire Kubiak because Kubiak gives us a greater chance to win.

The one thing that could get me really, really optimistic for 2014 would be a good looking OL overhaul and Kubiak as our new OC.

Tannehill will be a pro bowler if that happens. Go ahead and put that in your sig. If the Miami Dolphins manage to hire Gary Kubiak as the OC and can field a competent offensive line, Ryan Tannehill will be a Pro Bowler.

my sig has been the same since 2012 boss and it's not changing

and if philbin gets the final say here i think he goes with what he's familiar with...just like he does with who he trusts on the field as playera etc...mcadoo

My biggest concern with kubiak ... well two actually .... are 1) how's his health and 2) how long does he stay here before he takes another HC job?

ding ding ding ding ding!!!!!!

Promise you if he is the OC for this year and we make the playoffs he bolts for someone's head coaching gig

Gary Kubiak and Mike Sherman are friends. Sherman got his start under Kubiak and -- this is kinda funny -- Sherman was Kubiak's OC in Houston in 2007, and Houston was REALLY good on a points per possession basis that year, by the way. REALLY good. I posted in that original thread about Kubiak some of the reasons why I think he's absolutely fantastic -- one of the very best. The idea that Kubiak has been carried by great talent is patently false. Gary Kubiak has taken all types of players, from Hall of Famers to straight up bums, and made them better. He got the most out of Elway and he turned Jake Plummer into a damn Pro Bowler.

Anyway, I heard that the Dolphins actually offered Sherman a 'promotion' within the team because they wanted to get him out of the OC position but didn't want to fire him. Sherman refused, but my feeling is that he possibly now trying to help Joe, Taylor, and Turner by getting Kubiak involved.

All I can say is, if we wind up hiring Gary, somebody get me Mike Sherman's home address so I can send him a fruit basket.

Nope.

I thought he started under him in Denver? My mistake.

Jake Plummer's career. Take a wild guess who his OC was from 2003-2005.

if philbin was a more established head coach not having to work under a brand new gm i think kubiak would be more likely...a hc who takes on kubiak as oc has to feel pretty good about how secure he is for the foreseeable future imo

of the 3 my moneys on it being mcadoo...philbin has to preserve himself also and it also lets miami know who is next to blame if it fails if they let philbin pick his guy...i'm sure philbin knows the pressures on...might as well roll with what he's comfortable with and trusts when his heads on the block next if it goes belly up

Here's an odd question. Could a big hire at OC help land our GM? Could someone like Kubiak becoming our OC create confidence to potential GM candidates that we are turning things around? Kubiak could bring some legitimacy back to our organization.

if they thought about what rg3's game was or needed to be they should have never traded to #2 for him in the first place...i'm sure kyle had to play with what he was given but i dont care it wouldnt have taken me 3 weeks of contact on my new qb rg3 to decide we aren't running him as much...they just kept doing it and all that contact caught up with them come playoff time when he was a physical shell of himself...

he's not doing it to my qb...if tannehill wasn't a good athlete i wouldn't worry about it as much but he can play that same game with tanny he did with rg3 and that for me is the problem...

no doubt rg3 is gonna blow in a read the field stand in the pocket and deliver system...but it's all they got left if he's to have any shelf life...pretty much why i said i wouldnt draft him to begin with...no shelf life game built to contact never last in the pros...can't read the field...one read qb

Yes, but it's been leaked and is now widely assumed that the decision to trade up was all Dan Snyder's decision and that Mike Shanahan actually would have rather stayed put and drafted Tannehill. I think the Shanahan's may have been trying to get whatever they could out of Bob because they knew he wouldn't last in the NFL. Perhaps, if Shanahan was given a QB with a much better skill set than Bob, such as Tannehill, his play calling would change as well.

What I am wondering, if you know because I don't. Is what kind of offensive philosophy did Kyle have before having Bob forced on him?

FYI, I don't disagree with you are saying at all, just playing devil's advocate. It's nice to finally talk about football again.

tannehills futures better than plummers...plummer had an eye for the bird brain decision in the crunch...better presnap reads also

I heard about Shanahan a lot b/c of his time in Washington. I don't know if he's any good but I don't really want to have a former Redskin coach be involved with anything related to the Dolphins.

This is my concern as to why I think Kubiak won't be wanted by Philbin. He will be looking over his shoulder at the guy who could take his place by the end of next year.

That's exactly how I see it. Shanahan isn't my first choice but I think that given the fact that our coach is a presumed lame duck, he might be one of the better hires available. Shanahan needs to rehabilitate his image away from his father after the Redskins mess.

Yup. Plummer's just a good example of how Kubiak can get the most out of what he's working with. Jake Plummer ****ing blew. He was awful. As I posted in the other thread, Kubiak got the most out of a Hall of Famer (Elway), coaching him to the best performances of his career when he was 38 years old, and turned Jake "Scrub" Plummer into a Pro Bowler. Did the same for Brian Griese and Matt Schaub.

He will get the most out of Ryan Tannehill. It would be exciting.

I just posted about this same thing. Except IMO Philbin should hire Kubiak if he wants to win. Kubiak is proven.

well reports are he wants to rebrand himself and knows full well that the Redskins offense was a disaster this year
