Comon Mannnn
No one thinks things are perfect.
I wanted an upgrade at QB, but did the front office actually promise this? I recall Ireland and Sparano back in February or March saying they believed in Henne, wanted to build around him, but bring in competition. If anything, they did exactly what they promised.
Likely top 5 defense, and apparently you even agree with that. I don't expect a wide open spread offense like the Patriots or Saints, but I do expect it to open it up more than last year. The offense will be improved for the fact alone that they replaced Henning with a young, smart new offensive coordinator. Will they have an elite offense? No. Top 15? Very possible.
So you admit this team is close, with the exception of a QB. Henne was 7-8 last year, and with improved defense, a new offensive scheme, more speed on offense and a better supporting cast for Henne, why can't this team win at least 9 games and contend for the playoffs? You don't like the coaching staff, I understand that. Though when you are blindly bashing them and just writing them off, keep in mind that during their three seasons here, they have a winning record, one playoff berth and a division championship. All that after inheriting a 1-15 team that was the worst team in franchise history.
They said they believed in Henne, but benched him during the season. They were just saying that publicly because they knew benching him meant they didn’t have confidence in him.
I agree we have a top 5 defense. We disagree on the offense. You can look at it at 2 ways I guess. I look at it that Tony Sparano’s style of football is RUN RUN RUN, and he has admitted this. We all know Tony likes to keep games close and win with defense and we settle for fg’s too much. We hired an offensive coordinator who didn’t have good results in Cleveland for 2 years and who fits Tony Sparano’s offensive mentality. Does this mean we won’t open up the offense this year? No not at all. However, I am skeptically about it since that is not Tony’s MO. So I am not going to get excited about the offense with no upgrade at QB and just Tony’s word that the offense will be revamped. I will believe it when I see it but I am not holding my breath.
I do believe the Dolphins are close. It all comes down to a new head coach with a new philosophy. A philosophy that you have to be aggressive in the NFL every now and then. The Dolphins are a Superbowl contender with a new Qb and head coach. You point out w beat the SB champs last year. I was at that game and everyone on the packers was injured. You point out we almost beat the Steelers if it was not for a bad call. We should have beat the Stealer by 20. Instead in the redone multiple times we RAN RAN RAN FG. You will lose games in the NFL if you don’t try to beat teams by 35 points. How many times have the Dolphins put the stamp on a team under Sparano? Not many…he likes to play it safe and win the game in the fourth quarter. Look when we won the division. How many games did we barely win that could have gone the other way…the answer is a lot. The Dolphins need someone to coach the team and instill the mentality our defense has. PLAY TO WIN GAMES NOT TO LOSE. Don’t forget we also were awful at home last year and closed out the season on an embarrassing note. It is not doom and gloom for me, but this year I do not expect much from the Dolphins. 8 wins would be a surprise. I know we are close and with a new coach and Qb I have all the faith in the world the Dolphins can contend immediately.
