Schefter on mike & mike, thinks miami has a good team.

No one thinks things are perfect.

I wanted an upgrade at QB, but did the front office actually promise this? I recall Ireland and Sparano back in February or March saying they believed in Henne, wanted to build around him, but bring in competition. If anything, they did exactly what they promised.

Likely top 5 defense, and apparently you even agree with that. I don't expect a wide open spread offense like the Patriots or Saints, but I do expect it to open it up more than last year. The offense will be improved for the fact alone that they replaced Henning with a young, smart new offensive coordinator. Will they have an elite offense? No. Top 15? Very possible.

So you admit this team is close, with the exception of a QB. Henne was 7-8 last year, and with improved defense, a new offensive scheme, more speed on offense and a better supporting cast for Henne, why can't this team win at least 9 games and contend for the playoffs? You don't like the coaching staff, I understand that. Though when you are blindly bashing them and just writing them off, keep in mind that during their three seasons here, they have a winning record, one playoff berth and a division championship. All that after inheriting a 1-15 team that was the worst team in franchise history.

They said they believed in Henne, but benched him during the season. They were just saying that publicly because they knew benching him meant they didn’t have confidence in him.

I agree we have a top 5 defense. We disagree on the offense. You can look at it at 2 ways I guess. I look at it that Tony Sparano’s style of football is RUN RUN RUN, and he has admitted this. We all know Tony likes to keep games close and win with defense and we settle for fg’s too much. We hired an offensive coordinator who didn’t have good results in Cleveland for 2 years and who fits Tony Sparano’s offensive mentality. Does this mean we won’t open up the offense this year? No not at all. However, I am skeptically about it since that is not Tony’s MO. So I am not going to get excited about the offense with no upgrade at QB and just Tony’s word that the offense will be revamped. I will believe it when I see it but I am not holding my breath.

I do believe the Dolphins are close. It all comes down to a new head coach with a new philosophy. A philosophy that you have to be aggressive in the NFL every now and then. The Dolphins are a Superbowl contender with a new Qb and head coach. You point out w beat the SB champs last year. I was at that game and everyone on the packers was injured. You point out we almost beat the Steelers if it was not for a bad call. We should have beat the Stealer by 20. Instead in the redone multiple times we RAN RAN RAN FG. You will lose games in the NFL if you don’t try to beat teams by 35 points. How many times have the Dolphins put the stamp on a team under Sparano? Not many…he likes to play it safe and win the game in the fourth quarter. Look when we won the division. How many games did we barely win that could have gone the other way…the answer is a lot. The Dolphins need someone to coach the team and instill the mentality our defense has. PLAY TO WIN GAMES NOT TO LOSE. Don’t forget we also were awful at home last year and closed out the season on an embarrassing note. It is not doom and gloom for me, but this year I do not expect much from the Dolphins. 8 wins would be a surprise. I know we are close and with a new coach and Qb I have all the faith in the world the Dolphins can contend immediately.

This should be a top 5 defense that can give Brady a headache but if the Pats play shell coverage, Daboll has to adjust. Henning was horrible with in game adjustments and continued to force Henne throwing into a shell. If Daboll can make use of quick slants and get 1 on 1 matchups especially with Reggie, then the offense can go as far as Henne can take them.

Man you have no idea how happy I'm going to be when I see our WR's running slants when defense's are playing shell coverage against us. I really can't recall one time when we did that last year. Plus when D's are playing shell against us that means a LB will be covering Bush man on man as Henne's relief. That is a matchup Bush will win 95% of the time. Daboll definitely has the tools. Hopefully he can implement a great game plan and more importantly Henne takes advantage of it.

What? Run a slant? Underneath a zone or nickel? The Dolphins? NO F'ing way! I have screamed for years that apparently our coordinators have been allergic to slants, drags, and crossing routs the past decade or so. Marshall ran a few last year but that was about it. Most of the time, we really like those long outs where the routes have a great chance of being jumped and taken to the house by some jerkoff db! I was so excited to read some camp report the other day that said they were running a whole drill dedicated to slants and crossing routes. If Gates has some cahones, he could be lethal on a slant and we already know Marshall can do some damage across the middle.

I just wonder how are we going to run the ball this year with 2 guards that can't pull. I mean, are we going to just run straight ahead on every down? and in order to run it inside you have to trow deep from time to time so who are we going to trow it deep to? I'm hoping Gates will get a chance but with all our 2 wr's set when is he going to play?

Ozzy rules!!

The 2 WR sets were with the old OC. We have a new one now. So let's take a wait and see approach on this one.

Those first 2 games at home are HUGEEEEE for the Dolphins. If Miami can find a way to beat New England opening night and then FINALLY beat Houston and start the season 2-0 at home . . . . Henne can win over alot of people. He can also lose the fans he has left.

I agree 100%, the 1st 2 games will be extremely important for Henne and his confidence. If Henne struggles out of the gates, his confidence will be shot, and the fans getting on him will pretty much guarantee he will be done.

Henne gets back to the way he was looking in 09 (With better control of turnovers), Henne could make a huge turnaround from last year.

lol

most of our fans opinions change so quickly.lol If we come out the gates swinging and go 2-0.Henne jersey sales go through the roof..if not we will have fire sparono and not trading for orton was so stupid.lets just wait and see.I think we can really compete with anybody and beat anyone. We are so talented in so many areas.I think we really do have a chance this year.We are out of that rebuilding mode I believe and we are on the kusp of greatness...This is the "best" miami dolphins team on paper that I have ever seen since being a fan of the fiedler wanny days.I am greatly optimistic about this season and I think we will shock the nfl.Go dolphins...:hclap:
